Rams' Owen Waterhouse named LDA Mr. Volleyball

ST. THOMAS - Owen Waterhouse has capped off his high school volleyball career with the league's top award. The fifth year hitter for the St. Joseph's Rams has been selected London District Association's Mr. Volleyball for the 2021 season.

Coles brothers running to NCAA Division 1 Iona College

ST. THOMAS - Aiden and Tristan Coles have spent the majority of their lives doing everything together. That comes naturally as twin brothers. Therefore, it wasn't surprising when deciding on a post secondary school to further their education and running career, the Grade 12 students at St. Joseph's high school, chose the same location. This coming autumn the Coles will be attending Iona College, a NCAA Division 1 school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, located in New Rochelle, New York, just outside of New York City.

Rams run over Crusaders in District girls' hockey opener

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Rams made quick work of the CCH Crusaders. Estee Fodor scored twice as the Rams blanked the Crusaders, 5-0, in the season opener to the District girls' hockey season at the Joe.
The game was cut short with about eight minutes remaining in the third period, due to an upper body injury to Ram Jamie Giles. Brianna Caeiro, with a goal and an assist, Georgia McGinnis, Rachel Loebach and Sophie Pellerine, also scored for the Rams.
Goalie Emma Dodson stopped all shots her way for the shutout.ssisted on Ben Grasso's insurance goal. Ashton Ivanyshin scored for the Rams.

Arnold leads Spartans over Rams in season opener

ST. THOMAS - Jaden Arnold scored twice and had an assist to lead the Mother Teresa Spartans over the St. Joseph's Rams, 3-1, in their season opener to the District boys hockey season, this afternoon at the Joe. Arnold gave the Spartans leads of 1-0 and 2-1 and assisted on Ben Grasso's insurance goal. Ashton Ivanyshin scored for the Rams.

ST. THOMAS - Not much separated the two best senior boys teams in the District. Unfortunately for the St. Josep's Rams, the Gabriel-Dumont Guepards left with the championship, winning a thriller of a final, three games to two, by taking the last set, 15-13.

Rams cruise to District senior boys' volleyball final

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Rams are heading to the District senior boys' volleyball final. St. Joe's made quick work of the Mother Theresa Spartans, winning their semi-final in three games, 25-10, 25-23, 25-22. The Rams who have not lost a game all season, winning every match, three games to none, face Gabriel-Dumont in the final.

Rams come back falls short in senior football

LONDON, Ont. - Peter Bringi scored three touchdowns leading the St. Andre Bessette Bulldogs to a 20-17 win against the St. Joseph's Rams, in District senior football at City Wide Sports Park. The Rams trailed 20-3 after three quarters before Owen Zufelt and Westly McLennan scored fourth quarter TD.

Coles brothers lead Rams' dominance at Tricounty XC

STRATHROY, Ont. - The St. Joseph's Rams were everywhere on the course. St. Joe's, the school with by far with largest amount of runners, handily captured the overall team title, by winning five of the six divisions, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics Tricounty cross country championships. The Dorchester Beavers' senior girls prevented a St. Joe's sweep of the division titles, for senior, junior and novice boys and girls.
Brothers Tristan and Aiden Coles led the Rams, finishing tied for first in the senior boys' race, while fellow Ram Jayden McMullen, won the junior boys' race.
Dorchester's Hannah McIntyre took the senior girls' individual gold medal. East Elgin Eagle Adrianna Borm was the junior girls' champion.

Cross country returns to Springwater

ORWELL, Ont. - Muddy and slick conditions welcomed runners to the Springwater Invitational cross country meet but the rain stopped prior to the first race. Schools from across the Thames Valley region converged on Springwater Conservation Area for the annual meet that was cancelled a year ago. The St. Joseph's Rams won both the junior and novice boys team titles. Jayden McMullen led the Rams in the junior race finishing third. Rams' Noah Bakker and Fowler Little were third and fourth, in the novice race.

Zylstra, McIntyre, lead Rams to team title

UNION, Ont. - When the St. Joseph's Rams have the two low individual scores of the tournament, that makes them a tough team to beat. Jack Zylsta and Owen McIntyre tied for the low score, both carding an 18-hole round of 77, before Zylsta won in a playoff, leading St. Joseph's to the Thames Valley Region Athletics Tri-County boys' golf team title.

Gillet swims to OFSAA bronze

TORONTO, ON. - Owen Gillet had already left the pool thinking he had missed the podium, in the para men's 50 metre back stroke at the OFSAA swimming championships.
Then East Elgin Eagles' coach Carol McNiece caught up with the St. Joseph's Ram Grade 11 student, telling Gillet he had won a bronze medal.

Eldridge brings home silver from OFSAA wrestling

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON. - For a second consecutive year, Gavin Eldridge is an OFSAA silver medalist in wrestling. The Parkside Stampeder was undefeated until the 61-kilogram boys' gold medal match against Nathan Hunyady, of Guelph John F. Ross.
A year ago Elridge brought home silver wrestling in the 57.5-kilogram category.  St. Joe's and Central Elgin also had wrestlers at OFSAA.

Rams send five to OFSAA wrestling

LONDON, ON. - Julie Boyko was Houdini-like to escape a near pin, Gavin Eldridge kept quick on his feet and Brady Johnson seized an opportunity. Boyko (64-kg), Eldridge (61-kg), Johnson (130-kg) are returning to OFSAA, after qualifying at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) wrestling championships, at Banting Secondary School. Nine athletes will represent Parkside at OFSAA, the high school provincial championships, March 2-4, in Sault Ste. Marie.
Joining the trio of OFSAA returnees for the trip north, are gold medalist Jeremy Anderson (boys' 44-kg), silver medalists Cole Moore (boys' 89-kg), Cadence Hardwick (girls' 44-kg), Emma Penner (girls' 77-kg) and Kira Buck (third, girls' 83-kg) and Melody Wilton (115-kg). Parkside brought home the WOSSAA overall combined team title. The Lady Stampeders were team champions, while the boys were second behind London Saunders.
The St. Joseph's Rams send five athletes to OFSAA, silver medalists Emma Lee (girls' 57.5-kg), Krystian Krzyzewski (boys' 85-kg) and Ryder Dennison (boys' 44-kg), Claire Vankoughnett (third, 44-kg) and Liv Cracchoilo (third, girls' 115-kg).

Barry and Rams' para team off to OFSAA swimming

LONDON, ON. - St. Joseph's Ram Luke Barry won the open men's 100 breast (1:15.42) at Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) swimming, to qualify for OFSAA, the high school provincial meet. Barry also finished 12th, in the open boys' 50 free (29.09 sec.) but missed the qualifying standard. Four para swimmers will join Barry at the provincial meet. Serena Hu, Owen Gillet, Diego Alban-Gasca and Gabe Dala. The East Elgin Eagles dominated in pool at WOSSAA, not only sending 15 swimmers to OFSAA, but capturing the team award at the championships.

Rams capture para division at TVRA swimming

LONDON, ON. - The East Elgin Eagles are among the big three in local high school swimming. East Elgin placed third in combined team (male, female and para divisions) scores in the High School Division, while the Lady Eagles placed second for both the Open and High School women's divisions, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) swimming championships, February 11-12, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC).
St. Joe's won the men's Para division and the combined team scores for Para.

Rams run away with OFSAA cross country team title

SUDBURY, ON. - The St. Joseph's Rams are on top of the provincial cross country mountain. Rams' Aiden Coles, Tristan Coles, Brent Haggerty, Aiden Holder and Harrison Belanger, captured the junior boys' team title, at the OFSAA cross country championships, here at Kivi Park. Not only was St. Joe's the only school to score under 100 points, the Rams won by 57 points over second place St. Francis Xavier, from Mississauga. It's the first OFSAA gold in cross country for the school. Aiden Coles finished eighth in the race with 256 runners.

Rams dominate WOSSAA to return to OFSAA cross country

LONDON, ON. - Two teams and four individuals will represent St. Thomas - Elgin County and Dorchester at the OFSAA cross country championships.
The Dorchester Beavers' novice girls won the team title, held at the WOSSAA championships, at Fanshawe Golf Club. Hannah McIntyre led the way finishing fourth, Jenna Wideman was 14th, Devin Dance, 20th, and Tegan Ceccanese, 23rd.
The St. Joseph's Rams ran away with the junior boys title, placing five runners in the top 10. Aiden Coles was second, followed by Tristan Coles, third, Brent Haggerty, fourth, Harrison Belanger, eighth and Aiden Holder, ninth.
East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen was fourth in the senior girls' race and Ram Cerena Aitken-Guignard placed second in the junior girls' race. Parkside Stampeders' Mason Basson and Vincent Moore, were fifth and 11th, respectively, in the junior boys' race. Ram Will Mantel placed seventh in the novice boys' race, grabbing fifth individual spot to qualify for OFSAA. Former Mitchell Hepburn Mustang, now attending London Oakridge, Sydney Murdock, finished third, in the novice girls' race.
The top two teams and top five individuals not on those two teams, advance to OFSAA, November 2, in Sudbury.

Beavers and Rams rule TVRA Tri-County X-C

STRATHROY, ON. - It was the Dorchester Beavers and St. Joseph's Rams' show. The two schools won five of seven races and captured five of six team divisions, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County cross country championships, at Strathroy District C.I. The top 20 runners in each race and top three teams, advance to Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) meet, Thursday, October 24th, at the Fanshawe Golf Club. Beavers and Rams team champions in cross country

LONDON, ON. - The St. Joseph's Rams' junior boys keep dusting the opposition out on the trails, while the both Lord Dorchester Beavers' senior boys and novice girls open more eyes.
All three teams were champions at the Banting Invitational cross country meet, at Springbank Park, October 26th. The St. Joseph's Rams handily won the junior boys title, for a second consecutive meet, placing four runners in the top 10. Tristan Coles and Brent Hagerty finished two-three, behind London Central's Heath McAllister. Connor Erb led the Dorchester senior boys, finishing fifth.
St. Joseph's Ram Cerena Aitken-Guignard won her first high school cross country race, taking the junior girls' gold medal.

Orlebar repeats as Tri-County boys' golf champion

UNION, ON. - John Orlebar defended his Thames Valley Region Athletics Tri-County boys' golf title. With his low individual score of 78, Orlebar led the East Elgin Eagles to the team title, with Landon Underhill and Ryan Smith. The Eagles' combined score of 264 was six shots better than the St. Joseph's Rams' team of Jack Zylstra (team low 85), Aiden Shaw and Owen McIntyre.
The Parkside Stampeders (Luke Trowman, team low 83, Quinntin Gocan, Seth Carroll) placed fourth.

St. Joe's takes Tri-County B flight team title

LONDON, ON. - Madison Telford is aiming for a return to OFSAA. The Parkside Stampeder golfer made step one, finishing sixth, in the A flight division, carding a 95 over 18 holes, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) girls’ golf championships, at Westminster Trails. Telford advances to the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) tournament, at the Thames Valley Golf and Country Club in London, Monday, September 30th. This year, Pine Knot Golf and Country Club, in Dorchester, hosts OFSAA, October 16-17th.
Madeline Choi, from Woodstock Collegiate, is the TVRA A flight champion with a round of 83. St. Joe's won the TVRA Tri-County B flight team title.

Coles wins opening X-C race leading St. Joe's junior boys

DORCHESTER, ON. - The St. Joseph's Rams have continued what the team started as novice boys last season.
Aiden Coles won the four kilometre junior boys' race at the Dorchester Invitational, the first Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) cross country meet of the season.
Coles finished the route in 13:52, followed by his brother Tristan and teammates Brent Hagerty and Aiden Holder, in second, third and eighth place, respectively. The Rams handily won the junior boys' team title.
Last November, St. Joe's placed eighth as a team in novice boys, formerly titled midget boys, at OFSAA, the high school provincial championships.
St. Joe's Ram Diego Alban-Gasca won the para race, followed by teammate Gabriel Dala.
The host school had three top 10 results. Hannah McIntyre was fourth, in the novice girls' race, Connor Erb, fifth, senior boys and Ashley Legg, ninth, junior girls. Parkside Stampeder Mason Basson placed sixth, in the junior boys' race. Former Mitchell Hepburn Mustang Sydney Murdock, now at London Oakridge, finished second in novice girls.

Sweet OFSAA silver for Knelsen and Rand

GUELPH, ON. - Since last summer East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen and Chatham-Kent's Emma Pegg have formed a friendship.  Well, aside for about those two minutes and 14 seconds every time they step on to the track for an 800 metre race. Pegg and Knelsen finished one-two in the junior women's 800 metre run, on day three of the OFSAA track and field championships. Dorchester's Brianna Rand set a personal best (PB) time of 45.44 seconds grabbing the silver medal in the midget women's 300-metre hurdles. Parkside's Mason Basson just missed the podium finishing fourth in the midget men's 800 metre run.

De Sousa hurdles to OFSAA gold; Stanat grabs bronze

GUELPH, ON. - Crossing the finish line Tayah De Sousa covered her face realizing she was an OFSAA champion. The Central Elgin Titan won the junior women's 80-metre hurdles, in a personal best time of 11.43 seconds, with her dad, grandparents and coaches watching, at OFSAA track and field, at Guelph University. De Sousa is the first Titan to win OFSAA gold since 2013, when Riley Bell was the provincial long jump and triple jump champion.
Parkside's A.J. Stanat won his second medal at OFSAA, taking home bronze in junior men' shot put, with a personal distance distance of 16.50 metres, less than 24 hours after winning the discus competition. St. Joseph's Ram Aiden Coles finished third, in the midget men's 1500 metres, thanks to incredible kick over the final 300 metres, lowering his PB time by four seconds. Central Elgin Titan Hannah Onyema placed sixth, in junior women's shot put. Parkside's Mason Basson finished sixth, with a PB height of 1.75 metres, in midget men's high jump. Julie Nagelhout also placed sixth, in midget women's javelin. Jadyn Luna, of Thorndale, was the anchor runner on Medway high school's silver medal winning midget women's 4x100-metre relay team.

A.J. Stanat wins OFSAA discus gold

GUELPH, ON. - For a second consecutive year, Arthur (A.J.(Stanat) is an OFSAA champion in discus. The Parkside Collegiate. student threw 52.65 metres to win the junior men's event, on day one of the provincial high school track and field championships, at Guelph University. A year ago, Stanat won discus at the midget level.
Central Elgin Titan Hannah Onynema placed seventh in junior women's discus (33.14m). St. Joseph's Ram Aiden Coles qualified for the midget men's 1500-metre run final, with the fourth fastest heat time (4:19.12). East Elgin Eagle Julie Nagelhout finished 14th, in midget women's long jump (4.74m).

St. Joe's celebrates first ever win at OFSAA rugby

OSHAWA, ON. - It only took the St. Joseph's Rams until their second game at OFSAA rugby for their first victory. In their magical first season playing the sport, the Rams finished 1-2 at the girls' A/AA tournament. The Rams defeated the Ashbury College Colts, from Ottawa, 24-12. Jamie Giles, with three and Anna Fox, scored trys for St. Joe's, while Sophie Pellerine kicked four two-point converts. The Napanee Hawks ended the Rams' run at OFSAA, with a 30-0 win.

Two seeded Holy Cross blanks St. Joe's at OFSAA rugby

COURTICE, ON. - It was a rough welcome to OFSAA for the St. Joseph's Rams. Number two seeded Peterborough Holy Cross, blanked St. Joe's, 48-0, in the both teams' opening game at the OFSAA A/AA girls' rugby championship, at the South Courtice arena field. The Rams appeared overwhelmed over the first 10 minutes, but found their game throughout the second half.

Four champions lead way to provincial meet

CAMBRIDGE, ON. - No better way to advance to OFSAA than winning an event with a personal best effort. Four local athletes, Dorchester's Leaha Johnston and Brianna Rand, Parkside's Mason Basson and Central Elgin's Hannah Onyema, did just that feat and are now heading to the provincial high school meet as event champions, from day two of the OFSAA West regional track and field meet, at Jacob Hespeler high school. Johnston won junior women's javelin, Rand finished first in the midget women's 300-metre hurdles and Onyema took the junior women's shot put crown. Basson won the midget men's 800-metre run and was second in high jump, a day after finishing third in the 1500 metres, qualifying for OFSAA in all three events. The top four in each event from the regional meet, advance to this year's Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships, June 6-8, at the University of Guelph. In total from both days of the meet, 14 athletes in 23 events, representing Central Elgin, Dorchester, East Elgin Parkside and St. Joseph's high schools, advanced to OFSAA.

Parkside's Roth healthy and on track at WOSSAA

LONDON, ON. - Michael Roth is back and healthy. The Parkside Stampeder won the senior men's 200 metre sprint and placed second in the 400-metre hurdles, a day after winning the 400 metre run, at the WOSSAA track and field championships, at Western University. Fellow Stampeder Mason Basson, also qualified in three events, winning the midget men's 800 metre run and high jump on day two, after placing second in the 1500 metres.

Lady Rams' rugby taking their debut season to OFSAA

STRATFORD, ON. -Stressful final moments were overcome with jubilation as the St. Joseph's Rams held on to win the WOSSAA A/AA girls' rugby championship. In their first season playing the sport, the Rams have qualified for OFSAA, the high school provincial championship, following a 12-10 win over Stratford St. Mike's, in the WOSSAA final.
A try scored with no time left on the clock in regulation play brought St. Mike's to within two points. An attempt at a two-point convert, that would have sent the game to overtime failed.
Alyssa Giesbrecht scored both trys for the Rams and Sophie Pellerine kicked a two-point convert.
OFSAA is June 3-5, in Courtice.

Nagelhout's rare debut leads highlight performances at TVRA 

LONDON, ON. - It was a question East Elgin Eagles’ coach Jon Loney had to think and long and hard about for an answer. Even after several minutes and tossing around a few names, Loney couldn’t recall the last time an East Elgin athlete won three gold medals at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics track and field championships. That’s exactly the feat accomplished by Eagles’ freshman Julie Nagelhout, by winning midget girls’ javelin, long and triple jumps, during the two day meet, held at TD Stadium, May 15-16th.
The top 10 athletes in each event at TVRA, advance to the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) championships, at TD Stadium, May 23/24.
East Elgin's Hallee Knelsen and Nathaniel Abell, Parkside's Michael Roth, Mason Basson and AJ Stanat, Central Elgin's Tayah De Sousa and Hannah Onyema and Dorchester'sHannah Freer, each had a memorable meet.

Lady Rams are TVRA A/AA rugby champions in first season

LONDON, ON. -It's an impressive debut in girls' rugby for the St. Joe's Rams. In their first year competing in the sport, the Rams won the Thames Valley Regional Athletics A/AA title, blanking Tillsonburg Glendale, 7-0, in the final, at St. George's Fields. Taylor Richard had the game's lone try, coming in the last minute of the first half, followed by a successful two-point convert by Sophie Pellerine.

Lady Rams' soccer season ends on penalty kicks

LONDON, ON. -Mackenzie Mota scored twice, but the St. Joseph's Rams fell to the St. Andre Bessette Bulldogs, 5-2, in District girls' soccer, Monday at City Wide Field. The Lady Rams were eliminated from playoff action today, following an AA quarterfinal loss to the Regina Mundi Titans, 2-1, on penalty kicks.

Keyes fifth in OFSAA 50 fly B final

TORONTO, ON. - Briar McCaw, of Parkside C.I., placed eighth in the under 14 girls' 50-metre fly A final (33.33 seconds), at the OFSAA swimming championships, today at the Pan Am Sports Centre.
McCaw also won the U14 girls' 100-metre I.M. B final, in 1:16.89 (ninth overall).
Seth Walker led the East Elgin Eagles on day two of the provincial two day event. Walker finished 12th, in the 15 years and over boys' 50-metre fly (28.92 sec.), but was disqualified in the 100-metre I.M. final. Walker had a preliminary time of 1:07.65 to advance to the final. Eagles' teammates Lauren Kremers placed 19th, in the U14 girls' 100-metre I.M. (1:20.38), Haileigh Neusteter, 28th, in the 15 year and over girls' 50-metre fly (34.13 sec.) and Haly Broer was 36th, in the open girls' 200-metre I.M. (2:39.44)
St. Joseph's Ram Kayla Keyes placed fifth, in the 15 years and over girls' 50-metre fly B final (13th overall) in 33.25 seconds and 21st, in the 100-metre free (1:08.47).

PCI's Eldridge captures silver medal at OFSAA wrestling

OTTAWA, ON. - Gavin Eldridge is an OFSAA silver medalist. The Parkside C.I. student was undefeated before losing in the boys' 57.5-kilogram gold medal match to Roman Wawryk, of Kitchener C.I.
The scorecard favoured Wawryk, 14-6. In the semifinals, Eldridge again beat his long time WOSSAA rival, Diego Worsley, of London Beal. Parkside teammate, Maddie King was sixth, in the girls' 47.5-kilogram division.
Patrick Salvador, a student at London Mother Teresa, who trains with the St. Joseph's Rams, is the boys' 77-kilogram OFSAA champion. Salvador beat Sukhman Gosal, of Turner Fenton, in the gold medal match. Dorchester's Josh Smith placed fifth, in the 72-kilogram class.

Local teams take two silver and bronze at WOSSAA girls' hockey

LONDON, ON - The Parkside Stampeders and Dorchester Beaver both brought home silver while the St. Joseph's Rams won bronze, at WOSSAA girls' hockey. Parkside was defeated by now six time WOSSAA champion Medway Cowboys, 4-1, in the AAA final, Tuesday at Stronach Arena. Dorchester fell to the Clinton St. Anne’s Eagles, 6-1, in the A/AA final, Monday, at Stronach. St. Joe’s left a heart-breaking 6-5 loss to Dorchester, behind in the A/AA semifinals, to win the bronze medal, crushing London South, 8-1.

Bonnett, Gillet lead St. Joe's at OFSAA swimming

TORONTO, ON. - Carson Bonnett and Owen Gillet had the top results for the St. Joe's Rams, on day one of the OFSAA swimming championships, at the Pan Am Sports Centre. Bonnett was sixth, in the B final (14th overall), for the under-14 boys (junior) high school 50-metre back. Fellow Ram Owen Gillet was fifth in the para boys' 50-metre backstroke and 11th, in the 50-metre freestyle races.
Diego Alban-Gasca was 19th, in the para boys' 50 back and 30th, in the 50 free. Gabriel Dala was 18th in the para boys' 50 back. Sarina Hu placed 29th, in the para girls' 50-metre free.

Lady Rams capture District title on Bennett's OT winner

ST. THOMAS - Reagan Bennett ends a five year wait. Alyssa Giesbrecht will be going in her first year. Together, they have advanced the St. Joseph's Rams to the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) tournament, following a 1-0 overtime win over the London St. Thomas Aquinas Flames (STA), in game three of the District girls' hockey final, at the Joe. Bennett scored on a slapper from just inside the blue-line 4:03 in to the extra period, while Giesbrecht was unbeatable in the Rams' net. Exec Centre.

Aquinas ties District girls' hockey final

LONDON, ON. - The Madison Chantler scored twice and Monique Van Eyk had a goal, as the London Aquinas Flames edged the St. Joseph’s Rams, 3-2, in game two of the District girls' hockey final.
The Flames tie the series and set a up a third and winner moves on to WOSSAA game, Thursday at the Joe, in St. Thomas.
Jocelyn Delgado and Anna Fox scored for the Rams, who lose for the first time this season in District action. St. Joe's won game one, 2-0, on Monday.

Lady Rams take game one of District hockey final

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph’s Rams are one win away from running the table in District girls’ hockey. Alyssa Giesbrecht picked up a shutout stopping everything the London Aquinas Flames threw at her, as Rams took game one the best of three District final, 2-0. Jamie Giles potted the winner, while Jocelyn Delgado added insurance into an empty net, with 25 seconds left in the third period.

Twenty wrestlers from WOSSAA now OFSAA bound

LONDON, ON - Twenty athletes from the Parkside Stampeders, St. Joseph's Rams, Dorchester Beavers and Central Elgin Titans, are heading to OFSAA. Two spots in each weight class at the WOSSAA championships, were available for the high school tournament, March 5-6, in Ottawa.
Parkside won the overall team title, led by gold medalists Maddie King (girls' 47.5-kg), Gavin Eldridge (boys' 57.5-kg), Peyton Brodie-Grubb (girls' 61-kg), Cole Moore (83-kg) and Brady Johnson (boys' 130-kg). Julie Boyko (girls' 57.5-kg) took home silver, while Emma Penner (girls' 61-kg) and Steph Boyko (girls' 67.5-kg) won challenge matches, grabbing a qualifying berth in their respective weight class.
St. Joe's sends Liam Bacon (boys' 61-kg), Mary Clare Haasen (girls' 64-kg), Krystian Krzyzewski (boys' 89-kg), Kendall Dettloff (girls' 54-kg), Patrick Salvador (boys' 77-kg) and Thomas Fortier (boys' 95-kg).
Dorchester has Kolton Reading, (boys' 38-kg) Nick Lynch (boys' 38-kg), Owen Bisschop (67.5-kg) and Josh Smith (boys' 72kg).
The Holt brothers, Dalton (boys' 83-kg) and Adam (boys' 89-kg) will represent the Titans.

Seventeen swimmers from three schools qualify for OFSAA

LONDON, ON. - Briar McCaw and Kayla Keyes are returning to OFSAA, while Seth Walker will lead an entire flock of East Elgin Eagles. Highlights were numerous for Elgin County schools at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) swim championships, at Western University. Thirteen individuals from East Elgin, St. Joe's and Parkside and two Eagles' relay teams, advanced from WOSSAA to the provincial high school meet, March 5-6, in Toronto.

Veterans lead young teams at TVRA conference wrestling

ST. THOMAS - Kailey Meehan was looking for a challenge. Along the way the St. Joseph’s Ram was named most outstanding female wrestler. Meehan was the girls’ 57.5-kilogram champion, going undefeated at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics Michienzi Conference championships, Thursday, at Parkside C.I.
Parkside led the way qualifying 17 wrestlers for WOSSAA, at London Saunders, February 22nd. St. Joe's sends 12 and Central Elgin CI, five. From the Geris conference meet, held at Clarke Road Secondary school in London  Dorchester sends nine athletes to WOSSAA.

Eagles' team place fifth overall at TVRA swimming

LONDON, ON - The East Elgin Eagles are swimming with the big fish. At Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) swim championships, held at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, February 14th, the Eagles placed fifth overall in the team standings, out of 29 teams. The Eagles have 13 individuals and three relay teams, qualifying for the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) meet, February 19th, at Western University.
The St Joseph's Rams won the para division and will send 16 individuals and two relay teams to WOSSAA. The Parkside Stampeders have seven advancing and the Central Elgin Titans, three. The Dorchester Beavers will be represented by Aidan Currah.

Beavers, Rams, golden at novice wrestling meet

ARVA, ON. - Four champions led the Dorchester Beavers at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) Novice and Open Girls wrestling championships, February 8th, at Medway Secondary school.
Kolten Reading won novice boys’ 35.1-kilogram class defeating teammate Nicholas Lynch in the final, while Liam Devine (55.3-kg) Josh Smith (71.7-kg) and Jordan Maudsley (63.7-kg) also won gold.
Leading the St. Joseph’s Rams, were Noah Foley and Diago Silva, champions of the 51 and 61-kilogram weight divisions respectively.
Jacob Smits won silver at 42-kilos, while Evan Joers (95.7-kg) and Greg Chute (55.5-kg) both finished third and Patrick Maifrini, fourth, at 71.7-kg.
In the Open Girls competition, Kailey Meehan, of St. Joseph’s Rams won the 57.5-kg class, while Jenn Lynch (58.1), Ivana Csinos (64.3-kg) and Kelsey Rhohy (68.5) took home silver medals.
Claire Vankoughnett, of St. Joe’s, was third in the 48.5-kg open class and Natalie Wilkins, fourth, 53.7-kg.the final.

Lady Rams lock up top spot in District girls' hockey

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Lady Rams are the top seed entering the post season for District girls’ hockey. Grace Gillet scored twice and set up Anna Fox, as the Rams defeated the London Aquinas Flames, 4-1, to improve to 6-0. Jocelyn Delgado also scored. The win clinches first place for the Rams, leaving Aquinas at 4-2, with both teams having one game remaining in the regular season.

Junior Rams take consolation title at Purple and White hoops

LONDON, ON. - The St. Joseph’s Rams won the consolation title,  at the Western University annual Purple and White boys’ basketball tournament, dumping Woodstock College Avenue, 62-47, led by 18 points from their tournament all-star, Owen Waterhouse. St. Joe’s lost their opening game to Ursuline, before edging Lucas, 49-47, thanks to 19 points from Tyson Dryflout.
In the senior division Xavier defeated Windsor Kennedy for the championship title. St. Joseph’s went 1-2 in the 16-team event, finishing with a 62-49 win over Totenham STA, led by Redmond Cunanan’s 19 points. The Rams lost to Barrie St. Joe’s, 59-43, in the opening round, before being edged by Tecumseh St. Anne’s, 40-39.

Crusaders roll Rams for District senior football title

LONDON, ON. - Devonte Ballantyne scored four touchdowns to lead the London CCH Crusaders over St. Joseph's Rams, 38-6, cruising to the District senior football title, at City Wide Fields.
Keegan Vanek had an interception return for a touchdown and Julian Sanchez kicked a field goal and five single point converts. CCH led 38-0, before St. Joe's scored late in the fourth quarter with Luke Ainsworth finding the end zone.

 Midget Rams eighth at OFSAA cross country

DUNDAS, ON. - The Owen Pink had the race of his career. The Lord Dorchester runner finished 19th in the junior boys' race, leading the Beavers' team to seventh place while posting the top individual local result, during the OFSAA cross country championships, at Christie Lake Conservation Area.
Following Pink, in an event featuring 276 runners, was Connor Erb, in 61st, Aiden Currah, 115th, Joshua Smith, 122nd and Dilpreet Sandhu, 136th.
Dorchester's Ashley Legg placed 39th in the midget girls' race.
The St. Joseph's Rams midget boys' team was eighth, led by Aiden Coles, finishing 52nd, in the race with 268 participants. Tristan Coles was 63rd, James Hill, 93rd and Harrison Belanger, 119th.

Rams roll RMC in District junior girls' hoops quarter

ST. THOMAS –  Anna Fox dropped 11 points and Emily Schnurr had five, as the St. Joseph's Rams ran away from the Regini Mundi Titans, 30-5, in District junior girls' quarterfinal basketball action, at S. Joe's high school. The Rams move to face Mother Teresa in the District semifinals.

St. Joe's and Dorchester run teams to OFSAA

ORWELL, ON. –  The Lord Dorchester Beavers and St. Joseph's Rams had huge days on the trails and now are heading to the biggest cross country meet of the season. Two teams and two individuals, from St. Thomas-Elgin and Dorchester, are heading to OFSAA, the high school provincial championships, following qualifying performances at WOSSAA, held at the Springwater Conservation Area. The top two teams in each of the six divisions and the fastest five individuals not on the top two teams, qualify for OFSAA, November 3, in Dundas. Aiden Coles was the runner-up in the midget boys' race, leading St. Joe's to the team title. It's the third consecutive year a Rams team has qualified for OFSAA. Owen Pink finished second and Connor Erb was eighth, to lead Dorchester's junior boys' team to second place, behind London Oakridge. Dorchester's Ashley Legg placed second in the midget girls' race.
East Elgin Eagle junior Hallee Knelsen was third in her race and returns to the provincial meet. As a midget, Knelsen finished 26th last year at OFSAA.

Rams, Beavers, run over the competition at Tri-County X-C

WOODSTOCK, ON. –  It was not hard to spot members of the Lord Dorchester Beavers or St. Joseph's Rams cross country teams. That is because they were running roughshod among the top 20 in each of the six races, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County championships, at Roth Park. The top four teams in each of the six divisions qualify for the WOSSAA championships, Thursday, October 25th, at Springwater Conservation Area. Any individual runner finishing in the top 20 in their respective race also moves on. The top two overall boys and girls teams also qualify. By no surprise it was Dorchester and St. Joe's, respectively.
St. Joe's won the midget boys, midget girls and junior girls' team crowns. Dorchester was the junior and senior boys team champions, leaving Strathroy DCI with the senior girls' title.
East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen (junior girls), Ram Aiden Coles (midget boys) and Beavers Ashley Legg (midget girls) and Owen Pink (junior boys) were race champions.

Pink leads LDSS junior boys at Widder Station X-C

THEDFORD, ON. - Owen Pink finished third, followed by Connor Erb in sixth place, to lead the Lord Dorchester Beavers to the junior boys' team title, at the Widder Station cross country meet.
Dilpreet Sandhu placed 12th, Aidan Currah, 13th and Joshua Smith, 14th, rounding out Dorchester's top five runners, in the five kilometre race.
The St. Joseph's Rams didn't have the Coles brothers running, but that didn't prevent their midget boys from a fourth team title of the season. Harrison Belanger led the Rams finishing owed by James Hill, in 11th, Joel Bowden, 12th and Carson Bonnett, 34th.
Parkside Stampeders' Brent Hagerty and Mason Basson, were second and fourth, respectively, in the midget boys' four kilometre race. Dorchester's Ashley Legg was third in the midget girls' race, while Colson Erb led Dorchester in the senior boys' race finishing sixth. St. Joseph's Cerena Aitken-Guignard and Ashley Betencourt, placed eighth and 10th, respectively. Cerena's older sister, Arielle, placed seventh, in the junior girls' race. Diego Alban Gasca, from St. Joe's, was fifth, in the para race.

Rams' defence silences Mother Teresa under the lights

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Rams' defence shined brightly under the lights. Luke Ainsworth had touchdown runs of 12 and 21 yards, as St. Joe's blanked the Mother Teresa Spartans, 13-0, in a District senior football night game, at St. Joseph's high school. St. Joe's is 2-1 in a tough District division that includes powerhouse London football schools, CCH and Aquinas.
The Rams' junior remains undefeated at 3-0, following a 52-7 crushing of the Spartans. Ethan Dolby caught three TD passes.

Third cross country team title for Rams' midget boys

ORWELL, ON. - Aiden and Tristan Coles were one-two, to lead the St. Joseph's Rams' midget boys, to a third team title this cross country season, at the Springwater Invitational, at the Springwater Conservation Area. Harrison Belanger followed the Coles brothers in sixth place, while Joel Bowden placed 16th.
East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen overcame not feeling well to finish second, behind junior girls' champion, London Aquinas' Victoria Lamb. Fellow Eagle Nathaniel Abell was fifth, in the senior boys' race.
Dorchester's Ashley Legg finished fourth in the midget girls' race, while St. Joe's Cerena Aitken-Guignard was sixth.

Coles lead St. Joes' midget boys X-C to team title

LONDON, ON. - Aiden and Tristan Coles were one-two, in the midget boys' four kilometre race, at the Springbank cross country meet, leading the St Joseph's Rams to the team title.
Following the Coles brothers, were teammates Harrison Belanger, in 10th and Joel Bowden, 18th. Cerena Aitken-Guignard finished sixth, helping the St. Joseph's midget girls' team place third. Her older sister, Arielle, was 11th, in the junior girls' five kilometre race.
East Elgin Eagle Nathaniel Abell was fifth, in the senior boys' six kilometre race.
Central Elgin Titan Haylee Vlasman had Elgin County's top result for senior girls, finishing 35th, one position ahead of St. Joseph's Mary Claire Haasen.

Dorchester and St. Joe's win team titles at X-C festival

DORCHESTER - The Dorchester Beavers’ junior boys team thrilled their fans on home turf. Led by Owen Pink, Connor Erb, Joshua Smith and Evan Gillies, Dorchester won the team title, at the Fairground cross country festival, the opening meet of the running season. Pink crossed the finish line third, completing the four kilometre route in 14:05, followed by Erb in sixth (14:41), Smith, 12th (14:44) and Gillies, 17th (15:10).
Aiden and Tristan Coles, finished second and third, respectively, leading the St. Joseph’s Rams to first place in the midget boys’ division.

Eagles' Orlebar wins Tri-County boys' golf title

UNION, ON - John Orlebar fired an 84 to win the TVRA Tri-County boys' golf individual A flight title, at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club. The East Elgin secondary school golfer helped the Eagles' team place fourth. With three scores in the 80s, the St. Joseph's Rams won the Tri-County team title by 12 strokes, with Brett Chapman (85), Owen McIntrye (86) and Aiden Shaw (89).
Jayden Boddy also carded an 85, to help Dorchester place third, while Luke Trowman led Parkside CI with an 88. In B flight action, Central Elgin Titan Rob Schivers led the way with an 81.-16.

Clark OFSAA 400-metre hurdles bronze medalist

TORONTO, ON. –  St. Joseph's Ram Liam Clark took home the bronze medal in the senior men's 400-metre hurdles, on the final day of the OFSAA track and field championships. Parkside Stampeder A.J. Stanat won the midget men's discus title and East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen took bronze in the midget women's 800-metre run.

Six top 10 performances at day two of OFSAA track and field

TORONTO, ON. –  Local athletes had six top 10 performances on day two of the OFSAA track and field championships, at York Univeristy.
Central Elgin Titan Tayah DeSousa finished fourth, setting a personal best time, in the midget women's 80-metre hurdles, her second runnerup to the podium at the meet. On day one, De Sousa landed fourth in long jump.
St. Joseph's Ram Liam Clark was sixth in a talented field, for the senior men's 110-metre hurdles final. Clark has his stronger event, the 400-metre hurdles on Saturday.
East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen finished seventh, in the midget women's 1500 metres, with a personal best time of 4:19.10. Knelsen returns to the track on Saturday for the 800 metre run.
Also seventh was Parkside Stampeder Anij Sparenberg, in junior women's discus.
Central Elgin Titan Hayden Bell placed eighth, in the senior men's high jump, while fellow Titan, Hannah Onyema, was 10th, in midget women's shot put. Onyema throws discus on Saturday.
Dorchester's Leaha Johnston just missed the top 10, placing 12th, in midget women's javelin.

Clark, De Sousa, Stanat, win gold at OFSAA regional track and field

WINDSOR, ON. –  Tayah De Sousa, Liam Clark and AJ Stanat, are heading to OFSAA as champions.
The trio won gold at the OFSAA West regional track and field championships, June 1-2, at the University of Windsor Stadium.
De Sousa, of Central Elgin CI, won midget women's long jump and finished second in the 80-metre hurdles, while Stanat, of Parkside CI, won midget men's discus and placed second in shot put. Clark, from St. Joseph's high school, won the senior men's 400-metre hurdles and finished fourth in the 110-metre hurdles.
Ten athletes in total from the St. Thomas - Elgin County and Dorchester area, qualified for OFSAA, the provincial high school championships, in Toronto, June 7-9.
Placing top four in their events were CECI Titans' Hannah Onyema (midget women's shot put and discus) and Hayden Bell (senior men's high jump); Parkside's Anij Sparenberg (junior women's discus) and Jack Carlson (midget men's 400 metres); East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen (midget women's 800 and 1500 metre races), and Lord Dorchester Beavers' Leaha Johnston (midget women's javelin) and Owen Pink (midget men's 3000 metres).

De Sousa leads Titans capturing double WOSSAA gold

LONDON, ON. –  The Dorchester and Elgin County area had seven athletes win 11 gold medals, led by the Central Elgin Titans with five to call their own, at the WOSSAA track and field championships, at TD Stadium. Titan Tayah De Sousa brought home two gold medals, winning both the midget women's 80-metre hurdles and long jump, while Hannah Onyema took top spot in midget women's shot put and discus. Hayden Bell won senior men's high jump.
Parkside Stampeder Michael Roth is a triple champion, the fastest in the junior men's 300 and 400 metres races and 300-metre hurdles. Fellow Stampeder Arthur Stanat, tossed out the farthest throws in both midget men's shot put and discus. East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen won both the midget women's 800 and 1500 metre races. Dorchester's Abby Downing leaped to the midget women's pole vault title.

STRATFORD, ON. –  St. Joseph’s mixed doubles team of Addie Mailhot and Jack Ainsworth placed fourth, going 2-2, at the WOSSAA tennis championships.
St. Joseph’s Alex Craig and Parkside’s Taylor Goodhue, both placed fifth, in men’s and ladies’ singles, respectively. Central Elgin Titans’ ladies’ doubles team of Emma Blewett and Holly Monteith placed sixth.

Liam Clark leads St. Joe's at TVRA track and field

LONDON, ON. –  From the Lord Dorchester Beavers capturing the men's and women's 1A overall team titles, to multiple gold medalists, including athletes with their first career wins, highlights were plenty, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) track and field championships, at TD Stadium. Liam Clark led St. Joe's finishing second in the senior men's 400-metre hurdles and third, in the 110-metre hurdles. The top 10 in each event, advance to the WOSSAA meet, back at TD Stadium, May 24/25.

St. Joe's four-peats as TVRA South-East tennis champs

ST. THOMAS –  For the fourth consecutive year, the St. Joseph's Rams captured the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) tennis team title.
The Rams won men's singles (Alex Craig) and mixed doubles (Addie Mailhout & Jack Ainsworth) titles and placed second in men's doubles (Sam Hardy & Denys Reid) and mixed doubles (Bryce Mailhot & Olivia Tasker). Central Elgin Titans' Emma Blewett and Holly Monteith won women's doubles and West Elgin Wildcat Taylor Schnekenburger won ladies' singles.

Lady Rams stay undefeated blanking Holy Cross

ST. THOMAS –  Jocelyn Delgado scored and keeper Jordyn Rady posted the shutout, as the St. Joseph's Rams improved to 3-0, blanking Strathroy Holy Cross, 1-0, in District girls' soccer, at St. Joe's high school. Over the three games, the Rams have out scored their opponents, 9-1, to sit in first place in the District's tier 2 division.

Kettle Creek prepares athletes for upcoming championship meets

ST. THOMAS –  Following a one year absence after being cancelled due to weather, the Kettle Creek Invitational track and field meet, hosted by the St. Thomas Legion Club, had near perfect conditions this day. The wind was brisk at times, but the sun shined and the temperatures were ideal for athletes preparing for the upcoming championship meets, starting with the Thames Valley Regional, May 16-17.

Rams finish third at Gemini Cup

TILLSONBURG, ON. – Dennis Reid and Caleb Schaap scored, while keeper Evan Wharton earned the shutout, as the St. Joseph's Rams blanked London South, 2-0, in the boys' third place game, at the Gemini Cup. Kaitlin Ellery scored twice to lift the Parskide Stampeders over the London Lucas Vikings, 2-1, for the girls' soccer title, at the Gemini Cup.

Roth and Stanat lead PCI at Forest City Mustang meet

LONDON, ON. –  Led by Michael Roth and Arthur Stanat’s winning performances, the Parkside Stampeders opened their 2018 track and field season with 17 top 10 results at the Forest City Mustang Invitational, at TD Stadium. The Central Elgin Titans, East Elgin Eagles, Lord Dorchester Beavers and St. Joseph’s Rams, also had athletes in the top 10, during a day that had single digit temperatures and a cold, brisk wind.

Fourth WOSSAA badminton for Delgado

STRATHROY, ON. –  Jocelyn Delgado has been carrying the torch for St. Joseph's Rams badminton, at her fourth consecutive WOSSAA, the past two years as her school's lone representative. Katie Bradshaw and Ashley Tucker have established themselves as one of the top female doubles team, finishing fourth at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) senior badminton championships, at Strathroy DCI.

Delgado qualifies for fourth WOSSAA badminton

LONDON, ON –  Jocelyn Delgado, of St. Joseph's high school, qualified for her fourth WOSSAA in badminton, after placing fourth, in ladies singles, at the London District senior championships, at Catholic Central high school. The top four in each division (singles, doubles, mixed), moves on to WOSSAA, at Strathroy, Thursday, April 19. Alex Craig just missed advancing to WOSSAA, placing fifth, in men's singles.

Dorchester's Owen Lynch fifth at OFSAA

WINDSOR, ON. –  Owen Lynch is top five in the province. The Grade nine student from Lord Dorchester secondary school (LDSS), finished fifth, with a 4-2 record, in the boys' 38-kilogram weight class, at the OFSAA wrestling championships, at the WFCU Centre. Lynch defeated Joey Williams, of London Saunders, in the fifth place match. Lynch's Dorchester teammate Bailey Dowhaniuk was 1-2.
Maddie King, from Parkside CI, in the girls' 44-kilogram division and St. Joseph's Alex Cooper (girls' 83-kg), placed sixth, in their respective divisions. King was one win away from going for gold, but lost her semi-final match to Jessica Hong, the eventual gold medal winner, from Ottawa Sir Robert Borden high school. Gavin Eldridge (boys' 57.7-kg), of the Parkside Stampeders, finished at 4-2, eliminated after losing to London Beal's Diego Worlsey, in a rematch of the WOSSAA gold medal final. Parkside's Steph Boyko (girls' 67.5-kg) went 3-2, Daniel Rattray (89-kg), 2-2 and Payton Brodie-Grubb (girls' 61-kg), 0-2.
St. Joseph's Nikky Laframboise (girls' 47kg) finished 3-2, while Mackenzie Miller (girls' 115-kg), was 1-2.
Central Elgin Titans' Sam Gutmanis (boys' 83-kg) was 0-2 and Dalton Holt (77-kg), 1-2.
Arthur Voaden Viking Cadence MacLeod (girls' 115-kg) was 1-2.
Brayden Todd, an Ingeroll DCI student who trains at LDSS, due to no wrestling team at his school, won OFSAA gold for a fourth consecutive year. Todd quickly defeated Adriano Di Benedetto, of Hannon Bishop Ryan, 12-0, in the boys' 61-kg gold medal match. In previous years, Todd won gold at 44, 51 and 57.5 kilograms.

Watson takes OFSAA bronze in 50-metre fly

WINDSOR, ON. - Mac Watson won a bronze medal in the junior men’s high school division 50-metre fly, on day two of the OFSAA swimming championships. The Parkside Collegiate Institute athlete adds to his OFSAA medal collection, that includes a silver (50 free) and bronze (100 free) from a year ago. Briar McCaw, also of Parkside, won the B final, finishing ninth overall, in the junior girls’high school division 50-metre back and 15th, in the 50m fly.
Kayla Keyes, of St. Joseph’s high school, placed 16th, in the senior girls’ high school division 100-metre fly and 24th, in the 100m free. Brennan Piche-Leclair, of East Elgin secondary school, placed sixth, in the para men’s 100m free.

Piche-LeClair wins OFSAA silver in para 50m back

WINDSOR, ON. - Brennan Piche-LeClair is an OFSAA silver medalist. The 16-year old student at East Elgin Secondary school finished second in the para men’s 50-metre backstroke, at the OFSAA swimming championships. Piche-LeClair set a personal best time touching the wall in 47.78 seconds, lowering his best time from 49.11. In the para men’s 50-metre free, Piche-LeClair finished sixth. Fellow Eagle Haley Broer was 17th, in the open girls’ 100m back (1:09.8).
Parkside C.I.’s Mac Watson finished fifth, in the junior men’s 50m free (26.86 sec.), just three-tenths of a second off of the podium, while the silver medal was won in 26.29 seconds.
Owen Gillet, of St. Joseph’s high school, was eighth in the para men’s 50m back. The 13-year also finished 17th, in the para men’s 50m free. Gillet's teammate Gabriel Dala, was 26th in the para men’s 50m free, but was disqualified in the para 50m back. In the para women’s 50m free, St. Joe’s Brooklyn Reiter was 26th.
Hailey Demeray, of St. Joe’s high school, placed 17th, in the junior girls’ 50m breaststroke (40.63 sec.).

St. Thomas - Dorchester schools send 14 wrestlers to OFSAA

LONDON, ON. –  Fourteen wrestlers from St. Thomas and Dorchester schools are heading to OFSAA, after placing first or second in their respective divisions, at the WOSSAA championships, at Banting high school.
The Parkside Stampeders lead the way with five athletes, Daniel Rattray (gold, 89-kg), Gavin Eldridge (silver, 57.5kg), Payton Brodie-Grubb (gold, girls' 61-kg), Maddie King (gold, girls' 44-kg) and Steph Boyko (silver, girls' 67.5-kg).
St. Joe's Rams have three returning to OFSAA, Alex Cooper (gold, girls' 83-kg), Mackenzie Miller (gold, girls' 115-kg) and Nikky Laframboise (silver, girls' 47.5-kg).
Sam Gutmanis (silver, boys' 83-kg) and Dalton Holt (silver, 77-kg), will represent the Central Elgin Titans and Cadence MacLeod (silver, girls' 115-kg), the Arthur Voaden Vikings.
Lord Dorchester will have Owen Lynch (gold, boys' 38-kg) and Bailey Dowhaniuk (silver, boys' 44-kg).
Brayden Todd (gold, boys' 61-kg), who attends Ingersol DCI, trains with the LDSS team and coach Jack Gunnell.
OFSAA, the high school provincial championships, is March 6-7, in Windsor.

Keyes wins twice at WOSSAA swimming

LONDON, ON –  St. Joseph's Ram Kayla Keyes won the 15 years and over girls’ high school division 50m free (33.27 sec.) and 100m free (1:08.12) and placed second in the 200m free, at the WOSSAA swim championships, at Western University. Both advance to OFSAA, February 27/28, in Windsor. Hailey Demeray, qualified for OFSAA, finishing second in the 14 years and under girls’ high school division 50-metre breaststroke (40.91 seconds). Owen Gillet, Gabriel Dala and Brooklyn Reiter, will all compete at OFSAA, in the para mixed 50 metre free and 50m back.

Rams suffer hard court heartache

ST. THOMAS –  The St. Joseph’s Rams were left broken hearted and it had nothing to do with Valentine’s Day. Following a first place finish in the London District league, the Rams’ season came to an abrupt end, crushed like a crumpled up rose, after being upended by the London John Paul Jaguars, 55-51, in a senior boys’ basketball semi-final, at St. Joseph’s high school. The Rams shot three for 23 from three point land. Mykal Donald had a game high 22 points for the Rams.

Watson repeats swimming feat winning his three TVRA races

ST. THOMAS –  Mac Watson is continuing where he left off from last season. The Grade 10 student at Parkside Collegiate Institute won the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre free and 50-metre butterfly, in the 14 years and under boys’ high school division, repeating a feat he accomplished a year ago, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics swimming championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Watson finished the 2017 swim season at OFSAA, bringing home a silver medal in the boys’ 14 years and under 50 free and a bronze in the 100 free. Prior to the provincial high school championships, Watson touched the wall first in each of his three races, both at WOSSAA and TVRA. Parkside's Briar McCaw, St. Joseph's Kayla Keyes and Hailey Demeray, East Elgin Eagles Brennan Piche-LeClair and Haley Broer and Dorchester's Cloe Selinga, also made splashes at the meet.

PCI's Watson finishes second in three swim races

LONDON, ON. –  Mac Watson led all local athletes at the final invitational swim meet before the championship season begins in February. The Parkside Collegiate Institute swimmer placed second in the boys’ 50-metre free, 50m fly and 100m free races, at the Winter Classic, January 11, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC). Jillian Barlett led the St. Joseph's Rams placing fourth in the girls' 50-metre breast and sixth, in the 50m back. The 2018 TVRA swim championships are February 6-7, followed by WOSSAA, on February 15, both at the CGAC. OFSAA returns to Windsor, February 27-28.

Rams win battle of the undefeated for District's top spot

ST. THOMAS –  The St. Joseph's Rams are the lone unbeaten team in the District senior boys' basketball league. An offensive push late in the third quarter put the Rams up 15 points, before settling for a 49-39 win over the London Mother Teresa Spartans, at St. Joseph's high school. The Rams sit alone in first place at 7-0, after handing the Spartans (6-1) their first loss. All other teams have at least two losses. Taye and Myikal Donald, each had 11 points to lead the Rams, who had a balanced attack. Alex Craig added nine points, while Redmond Cunanan, chipped in with seven.

St. Joe's captures first District junior boys' volleyball title

WOODSTOCK, ON. –  Not only did the St. Josephs's Rams avenge their only regular season loss, they made school history along the way. The Rams won their school's first District junior boys' volleyball title, defeating the St. Mary's Warriors, three games to one (25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22), in the final, at St. Mary's Catholic high school. St. Joe's advances to WOSSAA AA, November 16, at South Collegiate Institute, in London.

STA ends Rams' season in snowy senior semifinal

LONDON, ON. –  On a field that resembled more of a snow covered backyard than a stadium, the St. Joseph's Rams couldn't find the desired traction. A punt return for a touchdown, two minutes in to the second half was the difference, as the London St. Thomas Aquinas Flames edged the Rams, 15-7, in a District senior football semi-final, at TD Stadium. STA led 8-0 at half-time, on a safety and touchdown.

Rams tame Bulldogs on way to District junior volleyball final

ST. THOMAS –  After shaking off some rust, the St. Joseph's Rams showed why they finished in top spot. The Rams advanced to the London District junior boys' volleyball final, caging the London St. Andre Bessette Bulldogs, by winning their semi-final three games to one, at St. Joseph's high school. St. Joe's dropped game one, 25-16, but thundered back with three consecutive victories, 25-17, 25-16, 25-22.
The Rams, the top team during the regular season, with a 10-1 match record (32-10 in games), head to the final, to face the Woodstock St. Mary's Warriors, Friday, at St. Mary's Catholic high school, in Woodstock.

Knelsen finishes in top 10 percent at OFSAA X-C

PETAWAWA, ON. –  Hallee Knelsen is among the top 10 per cent for high school midget girls cross country in the province. The East Elgin Eagle finished 26th, in the midget girls' four-kilometre race, featuring 259 runners, at the OFSAA cross country championships, held at the Petawawa Golf Club. Arielle Aitken Guignard, of St. Joseph's, placed 114th, in the same race. The St. Joseph's Rams' senior girls' team of Kyleigh Stubbs, Jocelyn Delgado, Grace Gillet, Kaila Novak and Alyce McLean, placed 24th. Delgado led the Rams, finishing 111th, in the six kilometre race.

Rams advance to District senior football semis

LONDON, ON. -  Mykal Donald and Willie Mboko scored touchdowns, as the St. Joseph's Rams eliminated the St. Andre Bessette Bulldogs, with a 28-7 win, in a District senior football quarter-final, at St. Andre Bessette. Luke Ainsworth kicked two field goals and Jack Ainsworth booted a single, for the Rams. St. Joe's defence held the Bulldogs scoreless, until a touchdown, with only 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Rams face London STA, in a semi-final, at TD Stadium, on Friday.

Rams' senior girls return to OFSAA X-C

CLINTON, ON. –  It wasn't Children of the Corn, but for Hallee Knelsen, Connor Erb, Arielle Aitken Guignard and the St. Joseph's Rams' senior girls' team, it was a memorable thriller around the corn field. The three individuals and the St. Joe's ladies, are OFSAA bound, after qualifying at the WOSSAA cross-country championships, held at St. Anne's high school. Knelsen placed third in the midget girls' 4-kilometre race, while Aitken Guignard followed in sixth place. Erb was eighth, in the midget boys' 4-km event. The top two teams, plus the top five individuals, not on those top two teams, in each division, advance to the OFSAA championships, November 4, in Petawawa. St. Joseph's top five senior runners were, Kyleigh Stubbs, Jocelyn Delgado, Grace Gillet, Kaila Novak and Alyce McLean. The course, located behind the school, took runners alongside a couple corn fields, igniting comments on movies with some association with the crop.

SPRINGWATER, ON. –  Hallee Knelsen is a Tri-County champion. Last minute comeback lifts junior Rams over Titans

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Rams waited until the final two minutes, to rally for a 20-15 win over the Regina Mundi Titans, in London District junior football, at St. Joseph's high school. Rams' Jackson Miller and Cameron Fast scored touchdowns within 37 seconds of each other, with only 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Titans had taken a 15-7 lead, earlier in the quarter. Rayden Aphayuong had first quarter major for the Rams, who improve to 2-1.

Offence stalls for St. Joe's seniors in loss to RMC

ST. THOMAS - The St. Joseph's Rams' offence was never able to get on track in a 14-3 loss, to the Regina Mundi Collegiate Titans, in London District senior football, at St. Joseph's high school.
St. Joe's led 3-0, at half-time, on a single and a safety. But the offence struggled without starting quarterback Alex Craig, out with an injury. Titan running back Otito Nwaogu took over in the second half, with yards gained on the ground and a pair of touchdowns.

LONDON, ON. –  Hallee Knelsen finished third, in the midget girls' three kilometre race, at the Banting Invitational cross-country meet, at Springbank Park. Crusaders shut out Rams

ST. THOMAS –  When taking on one of the premier high school football programs in Ontario, a team must be ready with a full tank of gas. The London CCH Crusaders opened the London District senior boys’ football season opener, blanking St. Joseph’s Rams, 35-0, at St. Joe’s high school. Scoreless after one quarter, the Crusaders jumped on a tiring Rams squad, by scoring three second quarter touchdowns, for a 21-0 lead by half-time. In the junior game, CCH shutout St. Joe's, by the same 35-0 score.

LONDON, ON. –  Cole Barnes is back. Following a year away from the track due to a groin injury, the St. Joseph’s sprinter is returning to the form that made him a double bronze medalist at OFSAA in 2015. Lady Rams win on back to back days

ST. THOMAS – The St. Joseph's Lady Rams improved their playoff positioning by winning twice on home turf in a 24 hour period.
Today, Lexus Clark, Haily Legacy, Lizzie Kelly and Breena Struthers, scored in a 4-0 shutout of London Christian. Just 24 hours earlier, Lexus Wilson and Mackenzie Mota, both had two goals, while Kelly, Struthers and Rebecca Brown had singles in a lop-sided blanking of Woodstock St. Mary's. St. Joe's is 3-1 with one regular season game remaining set for Thursday.

Another 200 title for Barnes

WOODSTOCK, ON. – Cole Barnes led the St. Joseph’s Rams winning the senior men’s 200 metres, in 22.98 seconds, at the Woodstock Spring Classic track and field meet, at College Avenue secondary school. Joey Hardy finished second in the open men’s 2-km steeplechase (6:52.77), while Jordan Palmer was second, in the senior men’s 400 metres (53.76 seconds). Kyle Luyt placed fourth in the senior men’s 3000 metres (9:50.09).

Barnes fastest over 100 and 200 metres at Forest City

LONDON, ON. – St. Josph's Cole Barnes won both the senior boys' 100 (10.99 seconds) and 200 metre (22.55 sec.) sprints, at the Forest City Mustang track and field meet, at Western University. Keyes sets PBs at OFSAA swimming

WINDSOR, ON. - Kayla Keyes set two personal best times, placing ninth in the junior girls’ high school 50-metre fly (33.99 seconds) and 17th in the 50m free (30.81), on day one of the OFSAA swimming championships.
“It felt great because I met my goals I set for myself. I wanted to be 31 seconds or better for free and 34 seconds or better for fly," said Keyes, who competed for the second time. “It is an overwhelming experience due to the number of swimmers, but an amazing experience to meet swimmers from all over Ontario and see many talented swimmers.”
Cloe Seligna, of Lord Dorchester, placed 24th in the open girls’ 100-metre fly (1:09.2) and 37th in the 50 free (28.8 sec.).

BRAMPTON, ON. – Meredith Woodhouse finishes her high school career with a medal of each colour from OFSAA. Woodhouse advanced to her second consecutive OFSAA gold medal final in the girls’ 64-kilogram class, but was out-matched by Nyla Burgess of Pickering High. Rams win WOSSAA junior hoops gold

ST. THOMAS - Our local area has a champion and two silver medalists, from Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) basketball and volleyball. The St. Joseph’s Rams won the WOSSAA AA junior boys' basketball crown, defeating Woodstock C.I., 54-40, in the final, hosted by Tillsonburg Glendale. Bulldogs bits Rams clinching spot in District hockey final

ST. THOMAS - A four goal explosion in the first period carried the St. Andre Bessette Bulldogs over the St. Joseph’s Rams, 5-1, for a two games to none sweep, of their London District boys hockey semi-final, at the Timken Centre. Liam Rowland, Dylan Bowers, Ben Woo and John Geddes, all scored in the opening frame to put the Bulldogs in command. Bruce Maas added a goal in the third period. Derek Johnston had the Rams lone goal in the third period. Bessette moves on to meet London St. Thomas Aquinas in the District final.

Lady Rams pin back to back WOSSAA titles

LONDON, ON. - They are led by an OFSAA champion who could practice on her younger sister and brother if she wanted too. The St. Joseph’s Lady Rams repeated as team champions at the WOSSAA wrestling tournament, at Beal Secondary school. The girls winning and the Rams' boys placing fourth, carried St. Joe’s to the combined school title. The top two in each weight classes qualify for OFSAA, March 1-3 in Brampton. Meredith Woodhouse, who last year became St. Joe’s first ever OFSAA gold medalist in the sport, led the way winning her 64-kg weight class. Woodhouse was joined by sister, Sydney (54-kg), Alex Cooper (83-kg) and Mackenzie Miller (115-kg), on top of the podium. Bringing home silver medals were Nikky Lamframboise (47.5-kg) and Kailey Meehan (51-kg). Samantha Squires (57.5) took bronze.

Rams take District junior hoops crown

LONDON, ON. - It was a type of game the St. Joseph’s Rams hadn’t experienced all season, trailing in the second half and truly having to play defence. Dominate throughout the London District junior regular season, placing first with an 11-0 record, the Rams had to go where they had not gone before. Forcing turnovers and clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter rallied the Rams past the London Mother Teresa Spartans, 36-32, in the league final, at Fanshawe College.

Keyes turns in four OFSAA qualifying swims

LONDON, ON. - Kayla Keyes has qualified for OFSAA in four events. The St. Joseph's Rams' swimmer qualified in each of her individual races and a relay, at the WOSSAA championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Keyes won the high school 14 and under girls' division 50-metre freestyle and placed second in the 50m butterfly and the 100m free. Keyes, along with team-mates Breanne Bonter, Haeley Demeray and Madison Morin, finished second, in the high school senior girls' 200-metre medley relay.

Rams advance to District Junior final

ST. THOMAS - Taye Donald scored a game high 20 points and Redman Cunanan poured in 16, to lead the St. Joseph's Rams over London John Paul II, 49-30, in a London District junior boys' basketball semi-final, at St. Joe's high school. St. Joe's led 23-14, at half-time. A 22-6 run in the third quarter put the Rams in charge, with Donald dropping 14 points, including a trio of three-pointers. The Rams advance to the final, Friday, at Fanshawe College. St. Joe's is 12-0 in District action and 28-2 overall this season.

St. Joe's girls win TVRA West wrestling team title

ST. THOMAS - They are best teams in the west. The Parkside Stampeders and St. Joseph's Rams, won the boys and girls' team titles, respectively, at the TVRA West conference wrestling championships, at Parkside CI. The two schools combined to have 40 athletes qualifying for WOSSAA, each with top five results. Parkside took the overall title, combining both the boys and girls' teams, followed by St. Joe's.

Wilson swims to three TVRA gold medals

LONDON, ON - Mac Watson could not be beat. The Parkside Collegiate Institute Grade nine athlete won his three races, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics swim championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Watson was first in the high school division under-14 boys 50-metre butterfly (29.81 seconds), 100-metre free (1:00.74) and 50-metre free (27.05 sec.).
Competitors had to meet qualifying times to advance to the WOSSAA meet, hosted again at the Centre, on February 16. Parkside, St. Joseph’s, Lord Dorchester and East Elgin Secondary, all had swimmers move on to WOSSAA.

Rams hang on for senior hoops win

ST. THOMAS - Mykal Donald scored a game high 20 points, leading the St. Joseph's Rams over the London Catholic Central High (CCH) Crusaders, 43-41, in London District senior boys' basketball, at St. Joe's high school. The Rams led by as much as 10 points in the second half, but had to hang on for the two point victory. Daniel Johnson had 10 points for CCH.
In junior action, St. Joe's dumped CCH, 65-56. Redmond Cunanan, led the Rams with a game high 37 points, while Taye Donald had 19.

LONDON, Ont. - Haley Aguis scored twice and Jocelyn Delgado and Clare Van Bommell, each had a goal, as the St. Joseph's Rams defeated London Mother Teresa, 4-2, in District girls' hockey. The Rams improve to 3-0.

Sturk named Mr. Volleyball

ST. THOMAS –  Clayton Sturk is Mr. Volleyball, for the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South-East Division. Sturk helped the Parkside Stampeders win the TVRA South-East senior boys' AAA title and advance to the WOSSAA final. Sturk, along with Cooper Van Vlaanderen (East Elgin), Patrick Acres (West Elgin), Nathyn Smeets (St. Joe’s) and Jacob Nevilll (Arthur Voaden), were selected for the TVRA boys' all-star volleyball game.

Lady Rams skate over Centurions

ST. THOMAS - Jocelyn Delgado and Grace Gillet both scored twice, to lead the St. Joseph's Lady Rams over the Strathroy Holy Cross Centurions, 6-1, in District girls' hockey, at the Timken Centre. Baily Slotejes and Haley Aguis, also scored for St. Joe's. Following a scoreless first period, Holy Cross opened the scoring, before St. Joe's replied with six unanswered goals.
The Lady Rams improve to 2-0, following a season opening 5-0 shutout of London Regina Mundi.

Seven WOSSAA medals for local schools

ST. THOMAS –  Teams from St. Thomas - Elgin County and Dorchester high schools, brought home six medals from the WOSSAA tournaments for girls basketball and boys volleyball.
Lord Dorchester was the lone champion, winning the senior girls A basketball championship, defeating St. Marys DCVI, 47-38.
The Parkside Stampeders made the senior girls’ AA basketball final, but lost to London Mother Teresa, 48-33.
At triple A basketball, the East Elgin Eagles won the bronze medal game at both the senior and junior levels. The senior Eagles beat London CCH, 42-30, after losing to London Lucas, 64-29, in their semi-final. Lucas features Sarah Donavan, who recently signed a letter of intent to attend Davidson College.
In volleyball, the Parkside Stampeders were AA silver medalists, losing the final to host Stratford Central.
East Elgin captured the bronze medal in AAA action, in a three game sweep of London CCH. The Eagles lost to the eventual champions, London Saunders, in the semi-finals.
The West Elgin Wildcats also took home bronze, dusting St. Marys DCVI, in three games, at the 'A' tournament.

St. Joe's boys 10th at OFSAA

PORT HOPE, ON. - The St. Joseph's senior boys team wrapped up this year’s cross country season, placing 10th at the OFSAA championships, held at Trinity College school. The meet featured the top 38 high school teams in the province, with each race averaging 300 runners. Joey Hardy led the St. Joe’s team, finishing 64th.

Lady Rams run down WOSSAA title

LONDON, ON. - The St. Joseph’s Rams came up big, winning the overall girls, senior girls and senior boys team titles, at the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) cross   country championships, held at Springbank Park. The overall banner is a first for the St. Thomas school. The senior boys and senior girls now head for OFSAA, the provincial meet, Saturday November 5, in  Port Hope.

Injured toe fails to slow Dorchester boys

NILESTOWN, ON. - An injured toe failed to prevent Jaxon Nolte from leading Dorchester's midget boys to a team title at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics Tri-County cross country championships. Nolte won the midget boys race, which featured a 1-2-3 finish for Dorchester.
