LONDON, Ont. - The Locke's Lions brought home silver from the Valley boys basketball championships March 18. Locke's was edged, 44-42, in double overtime, by Glen Cairn, in the gold medal game at the Thames Valley District School Board final tournament. The Lion's defeated Dorchester Northdale in the semifinals, after squeaking by Westfield by one point, in the quarterfinals.

LONDON, Ont. - Three local schools brought home hardware, from the Thames Valley District School Board Valley volleyball championships, Saturday, at various schools. The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs, from St. Thomas, took silver in the girls AAA division, losing the final to Kensal Park. Northdale Central, out of Dorchester, won bronze, in boys AA. Eva Circe Cote, from Sparta, won bronze in girls 1-A.

LONDON, Ont. - Brooke Gustavson is a Valley champion. The Southwold student won the bantam girls race, at the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary cross country finals, Tuesday, at Fanshawe Conservation Area.
Gustavsen was one of six athletes from Elgin County and Dorchester-Thames Centre, to finish in the top five. Brooke Masse, of Northdale Central in Dorchester, finished second, in the junior girls race. Quinn Wilson, of Mitchell Hepburn in St. Thomas, crossed the finished line, third, in senior boys.
Elliott Hudson, intermediate boys, and Makayla Varalle, intermediate girls, both from West Nissouri school in Thorndale, also both finished fourth, in their respective races. Jack Rice, of John Wise school in St. Thomas, was fourth, in senior boys.

ST. THOMAS - The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs won both the boys and girls Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary school Elgin County intermediate AA soccer titles, today, 1Password Park. The Mustangs girls' five wins were all by shutout.
On Monday, the Elgin Court Coyotes won the TVDSB intermediate 1A girls' soccer final.

ST. THOMAS - The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs are Elgin County girls slo-pitch elementary school champions. The Mustangs defeated the Locke's Lions, 11-3, in the final, Tuesday, at the Sauve Avenue diamonds. Sadie Dowswell had a solo home run and a two run single, that put the 'Stangs up 4-3. Alexis Fish drove in two runs. Locke's led 3-2, until Hepburn scored seven runs in one inning. Miya Sutcliffe hit three home runs in the tournament, as the Mustangs went 5-0, including defeating the Kettle Creek Captains, in the semifinals.

LONDON, ON. - For the first time in 22 years, the Locke's Lions are Valley champions. Locke's won the Thames Valley District School Board Girls' AA volleyball gold medal, defeating the Byron Southwood Spitfires, 25-15, 26-27, 15-13, in the final, held at Clarke Road Secondary School. The Lion's cruised through pool play going 6-0, before dusting Oxbow, 25-9, 25-15, in the semifinals.
Straffordville missed advancing from their pool. At Oakridge high school, the Southwold Cougars' boys brought home silver medals, losing to London Jack Chambers, in the AAA final.
Summers' Corners didn't advance from pool play.

ST. THOMAS - The Southwold Cougars made short work of the Summers' Corner's Sabres, to capture the Thames Valley District School Board South regional AAA boy's volleyball title. The Cougars won the final, 25-11, 25-21, at John Wise public school. Both teams move to the Valley championships in London, this Friday. Dunwich-Dutton will represent Elgin in the single-A tournament. On the girls' side, Locke's won the AAA title, while Straffordville took the single-A final. The Trudeau Voyageurs won the wild card game to advance to Valleys.

KING CITY, ON. - Andrew Monteith had the run of his career and now the 14-year old Lynhurst native is a provincial champion. Monteith, running for London Legion club, won the under-14 boys' two kilometre race at Athletics Ontario cross country championships, at Seneca College, in King City. Monteith was one of 15 runners from Elgin County and Dorchester at the meet.

LONDON, ON. - For a second consecutive season, Andrew Monteith is a Valley cross country champion. The Southwold elementary school student won the open boys' race, at the Thames Valley District School Board final meet, at the Fanshawe Conservation Area, October 22nd. A year ago at this meet, Monteith was the senior boys champion. Cole Shoup, from Springfield, won the intermediate boys' race. Monteith and Shoup were two of 18 runners, from the Elgin County and Dorchester area, to place in the top 10, in the five divisions for both male and female.

LONDON, ON - For Fifteen event champions led the Elgin County and Dorchester area contingent at the Thames Valley District School Board elementary school final track and field meet, at Western University, June 4th. Dorchester Northdale had 27 athletes place in the top eight over the 10 divisions, boys and girls' bantam, junior, intermediate, senior and open. St. Thomas P.E. Trudeau had 15 top eight results, while Thorndale West Nissouri posted 13 top eight results.

LONDON, ON. - The Summers' Corners Sabres are Thames Valley District School Board girls' slo-pitch silver medalists. London Westmount had their offence on fire, defeating Summers' Corners, 19-5, in the Valley gold medal game, at Stronach Park. The Locke's Lions lost 8-7, to London Riverside, in the consolation final. In the boys' bronze medal game, the Davenport Eagles doubled up on the Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs, 8-4. Lambeth beat Byron Southwood, 4-1, for the boys' gold medal.

ST. THOMAS - For a third consecutive year, the Summers' Corners Sabres have won the Elgin County girls' slo-pitch tournament. The Sabres defeated the Trudeau Voyageurs, 9-3, in the final, following a semifinal win over the Lockes' Lions. Sabres' pitcher Brianna Syrnyk delivered on offence too, with a three-run homer and a triple. Both finalists and Locke's, who placed third, advance to the Thames Valley District School Board Valley championship, at Stronach Park, in London, June 11.

LONDON, ON. - Following game one, the majority would have sent these horse's hopes to the glue factory. Instead of being put down, the Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs galloped to the gold medal, at Thames Valley District School Board Valley girls' basketball championship, defeating London Northridge, 25-15, in the AAA final, Saturday, at Oakridge Secondary School.
Grayson Moore led Mitchell Hepburn with 12 points in the final, while Lily Ryder had eight points.

ST. THOMAS - The top junior boys and girls elementary volleyball teams were determined at TVDSB regional tournaments for St. Thomas and Elgin County. The Dunwich-Dutton Dynamos won both the boys and girls' C titles. The John Wise Jaguars are the girls' B champions and boys consolation finalists. Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs won the boys' A title. South Dorchester's boys went undefeated through the B round robin and semifinals but lost in the final.

LONDON, ON. - The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs brought home silver in both boys and girls' volleyball at the TVDSV Valley finals. The Mustang boys lost a pair of close games to Lambeth, 25-20, 26-24, in the AAA final, at Oakridge Secondary school. The Lady Mustangs were edged by Kensall Park in the AAA final, at Lucas Secondary school.
Kensall Park also defeated the Trudeau Voyageurs during the semifinals. Trudeau won the bronze medal match defeating Gabriel Dumont, two games to none. Also in boys' AAA action, the Southwold Cougars were eliminated after pool play. Both the New Sarum Huskies and West Nissouri Wildfire, out of Thorndale, didn't advance from pool play, at the girls' A tournament. The Rodney Aldborough Bobcats were representing the SouthWest region in the boys' A division.

LONDON, ON. - Losing both of her shoes didn't slow Hailey Smith. The Northdale Central runner finished second in the senior girls' race, at the Thames Valley District School Board elementary cross country Valley championships, at Fanshawe Conservation Area. Smith lost a shoe about a third of the way into the two and half kilometre race. Then she discarded her other shoe. Northdale Central's Hannah McIntyre won the open girls' race, Southwold's Andrew Monteith is the senior boys champion and Ethan Atkinson, out of Aylmer Immanual Christian, crossed the finish first in bantam boys.

The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs won both the AA senior girls and junior boys' gold medals, beating the Trudeau Voyageurs in both games. The Mustangs lost to
Summers' Corners, in the senior boys' final.
Elgin Court defeated Kettle Creek, in the A senior boys' title game, while Kettle Creek won the A senior girls' gold defeating New Sarum. The Southwold Cougars won a marathon penalty kicks session, edging Trudeau, 1-0, in the AA senior girls' final.

LONDON, ON. - The London Westmount Wolves won the rematch. Four runs in the fourth inning proved the difference, as the Wolves doubled up on the Summers' Corners Sabres, 8-4, in the TVDSB girls' slo-pitch final, at Stronach Park. The win avenges a loss to Summers' Corners, in the final a year ago.

ST. THOMAS - The Trudeau Voyaguers had the first meet of the elementary school track and field season, today at Parkside CI. Qualifiers move on to the regional meet, Tuesday May 22, back at Parkside. The top athletes at regionals, advance to the TVDSB final meet, June 5, at TD Stadium, in London. Top individual performances included, Quinn Vindasius winning the junior boys' 80, 400 and 800 metre races and placing third in high jump and Bryce Hampton winning the junior boys' ball throw and long jump, placing third in the 80 metres and fifth, in the 400.

ST. THOMAS - Julie Boyko had a successful 24 hour period on the wrestling mat. First, the Grade eight student at Elgin Court public school, won the girls' 54-kilogram class, at a elementary meet hosted by Sherwood Fox school in London, on April 20. Next day, Boyko was in Brampton, making her debut at the Ontario Wrestling Association championships, bringing home silver in the bantam division.

LONDON, ON. - The Summers' Corners Sabres are golden again. Led by 16 points from both Joslynn Henderson and Julie Nagelhout, the Sabres repeated as Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary AAA girls' basketball champions, dumping Princess Anne, 46-11, in the championship final, at Westminster high school. Summers' Corners jumped out to a 14-2 lead, but the game remained close at half-time, with an 18-8 score. A Sabres' 16-0 run, to start the second half, killed Princess Anne.

LONDON, ON - The Forest Park Firebirds ended the season with a victory. It was not a medal, but Forest Park brought home the won the consolation title from the TVDSB elementary AA boys' basketball finals, defeating the Tillsonburg Southridge Royals, 39-22. The Firebirds went 2-1 at the Valley championships, a week after capturing the SouthWest regional single-A title, defeating Elgin Court in the final.

LONDON, ON - Six Elgin County schools are competing at the TVDSB elementary basketball finals today and Saturday, at various locations. The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs take on London Princess Anne, in a girls' AAA semifinal Saturday. The Mustangs are 2-0, including defeating Parkview, 27-19, in their opener. The Summers' Corners Sabres are also 2-0 and face London Northridge in their girls' AAA semifinal. The June Callwood Cobras face London Lord Roberts in the AA consolation final. On the boys' side, the Forest Park Firebirds were edged 32-28 by London Sherwood Fox, in their AA opener, but regrouped to defeat Woodstock Roch Carrier, 30-28. Forest Park plays Tillsonburg Southridge, in the consolation final. In AAA action, the Southwold Cougars and Locke's Lions, both lost their first two games and were eliminated.

ST. THOMAS - It will forever be remembered as 'the shot' around Mitchell Hepburn school. Lily Ryder hitting a basket with no time remaining, to send the Thames Valley District School Board South-West girls' AA basketball final into overtime, where the Mustangs pull out a 30-28 win over the Summers' Corners Sabres. Down 26-24, after the Sabres scored with 11.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Ryder had the ball along the sidelines, opposite the team benches just inside the Sabres' defensive zone. Mitchell Hepburn advances to the TVDSB final tournament, Saturday, March 3. The June Rose Cobras beat New Sarum, in the SouthWest girls' single-A final. In boys' action, the Southwold Cougars won the SouthWest AA title, with a buzzer beating shot of their own, to edge the Lockes' Lions. The single-A final featured Forest Park taking on Elgin Court.

LONDON, ON. - Four St. Thomas-Elgin County and Thames Centre schools brought home medals, from the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) volleyball championships, on December 2. Summers' Corners won the girls' AAA gold medal, defeating London Northridge, in the final. In AAA boys, the Southwold Cougars brought home the silver medal, after falling to London Jack Chambers, 25-10, 25-15, in the final. Mitchell Hepburn didn't advance from pool play. At the girls' AA tournament, the Locke's Lions went 5-1 in pool play, but lost both their semi-final and the bronze medal match, to finish fourth. London White Oaks took the bronze, squeaking out a pair of wins over the Lions, 26-24, 25-22. Over in A girls' action, the New Sarum Huskies won bronze, defeating Emily Stowe, out of Norwich, 25-22, 12-25, 16-14. At the boys' one A tournament, the West Nissouri Wildfire, out of Thorndale, took home the bronze, taking care of Woodstock Southside, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11. The Sparta Stingers were unable to advance from their pool.

Summers' Corners captured the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) AAA girls' volleyball title, defeating London Northridge, 12-25, 25-17, 15-9, in the final. The Sabres cruised through pool play with a 6-0 record, before taking their semi-final handily, against London Jack Chambers, 25-9, 25-12. A year ago, Summers' Corners had to settle for silver, falling to London Westmount.

Huskies and Summers' Corners Sabres, are heading to the final day. The Huskies and Sabres won their respective Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) South-West regional elementary girls' volleyball final, at Locke's school. Both teams advance to the TVDSB championship day, Saturday, December 2, at various locations in London.
In the 1A final, New Sarum took the third and decisive game, 15-11, winning a back and forth match over the Locke's Lions, two games to one. Summers' Corners captured the AA title, sweeping the Port Stanley Phantoms, 26-24, 25-16.
Locke's won the girls' wild card match over Port Stanley, earning their berth to the final day.
For the boys, Southwold (AA champ), Sparta (A winner) and Mitchell Hepburn (wild card), are the region's representatives.

The Thames Valley District School Board South-West regional finals for boys and girls A and AA take court, at locations yet to be announced.
In the AA boys' semi-finals, Mitchell Hepburn defeated Locke's and Southwold took care of Summers' Corners.
On the girls' side, Summers' Corners eliminated John Wise and Port Stanley spiked Mitchell Hepburn.
In A girls' action, the New Sarum Huskies won their best of three semi-final, over June Rose, two games to one. However, the Huskies' boys fell to Sparta, in straight sets. The regional champions, plus wild card winners, advance to the TVDSB final day, Saturday, December 2.

DORCHESTER - The Northdale Central Knights are heading to the final day. The Knights earned their spot at the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary school girls' volleyball championships, following a two game sweep of London Tweedsmuir, in a wild card game, at Northdale Central.
"Our Knights played great three-touch pass-set-attack volleyball," coach Jeremie Roselle said. "They maintained their focus and positive momentum for the entire two sets. The consistency of their serving really helped as well."
The TVDSB finals go Saturday, November 2, at various locations. The Knights were the runner-up at the TVDSB AA East regional girls' volleyball championships, held at Gabriel Dumont secondary school, November 22. The host team won took the East title, defeating Northdale Central, two games to none in the final. Northdale Central placed second in their pool, before eliminating London Pearson, in the semifinals, 21-25, 25-9, 15-6.
The West Nissouri Wildfire boys have also qualified for the TVDSB final
day.

ST. THOMAS - Mason Basson finally found the back of the net following 10 rounds of penalty kicks, lifting the Sparta Stingers over the Elgin Court Coyotes, 2-1, in the Thames Valley District School Board Elgin regional boys' 'A' soccer final, September 26, at Athletic park. Elgin Court led 1-0, until less than a minute remaining in regulation, when Brady Lidster tied the game, re-directing a pass from Basson. During penalty kicks, both teams scored on their first attempt, Basson for Sparta, before the next 16 shooters failed to score. The Stingers went undefeated in pool play, before defeating New Sarum, in the semi-finals. Sparta has won the 'A' title for three consecutive seasons, upending Elgin Court in the final each time.

DUTTON, ON. - Ashley McCallum had the decisive kick, while keeper Ella Marleitner stopped all five shots faced, as the Dunwich-Dutton Dynamos, blanked New Sarum, 1-0, winning in a shootout, to take the TVDSB Elgin regional senior girls' single-A soccer title. The Dynamos had two wins and a tie, in pool play, before winning their semi-final, 4-3, over John Wise, after trailing 3-0.

ST. THOMAS - The Locke's Lions ran the table winning the Thames Valley District School Board Elgin regional boys' AA soccer championship, at Athletic park. Locke's blanked Summers' Corners, 2-0, in the final, after dumping Port Stanley, 4-1, in their semi-final.
During pool play, the Lions defeated Mitchell Hepburn, 2-1, Southwold, 3-1 and Port Stanley, 1-0. Locke's coaches gave special mention to Montel Soeuth, for great goal-keeping, Will Kervin and Jack Beirnes-Daniels, excellent defensive play, Adam Longlade, awesome goal kicks and J Flores, controlling mid field. Ethan Arnold led the Lions in scoring.
In the girls' AA final, Port Stanley shutout Mitchell Hepburn, 2-0. Port
went 2-1 in pool play, before silencing Summers' Corners, 2-0, in a semi-final.

LONDON, ON. - Brendan Mahood, Andrew Muir and Ben Langstaff, hit home runs as the Dorchester Northdale Central Knights slayed London Jack Chambers, 11-3, in the boys slo-pitch final for the Thames Valley District School Board, held at Stronach Park. Tied at two after three innings, the Knights broke the game open with a seven run fourth inning. Northdale Central completes an undefeated 2017 season. On the girls' side, Aylmer Summers' Corners are the champions. St. Thomas Locke's Lions took the consolation final.

LONDON, ON. - Dozens of athletes from the St. Thomas - Elgin County and Dorchester - Thames Centre schools, placed in the top eight at Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary final track and field meet, June 6, at TD Stadium. Alexis Stanat, of Mitchell Hepburn, set a new meet record in junior girls' softball throw, with a toss of 38.93 metres, breaking the meet record of 38.30 metres, set just last year.

LONDON, ON. - Dorchester St. David (Wildcats) and West Lorne St. Mary's (Falcons) elementary schools were division winners, at the London District Catholic School Board Hans Janssen Memorial track and field meet, held May 29-June 1, at TD Stadium. St David won the B division, while St. Mary's took the C division title. St. Catherine Siena, located in London, was the A division champion.

ST. THOMAS - The Summers' Corners Sabres are the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) Elgin County girls' softball champions. Bailee Smith delivered the knockout hit, smacking a grand slam in the sixth inning, as the Sabres beat the Locke's Lions, 12-7, in the final, at the Tarry Complex. The Sabres move on to the TVDSB final tournament next month. Summers' Corners completes a sweep of the Elgin County titles, as their boys won on Tuesday. Davenport reached the final of the boys' double knockout tournament undefeated. But in an all Aylmer final, the Sabres won twice, including a nine inning marathon in game two, that stretched an extra four innings.

LONDON, ON. - The Summers'
Corners Sabres won basketball gold, at the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB)
elementary girl's AAA final tournament.
The Sabres defeated Mitchell Hepburn, 38-12, in the final.
The John Wise Jaguars lost in the AA boys' bronze medal game, while the Forest
Park Firebirds won the AA boys' consolation final.

LONDON, ON. - The John Wise
Jaguars made the final at the Thames Valley District School Board boys' AAA
volleyball tournament, losing the best of three game match, to London White
Oaks, 25-13, 25-12.
The Jaguars finished pool play, tied for first place and advanced on a
tie-breaker, before eliminating Woodstock Algonquin in the semi-finals.
John Wise qualified for the final tournament, by winning the Southwest (St.
Thomas) regional. The Jaguars were also the champs at the Central Elgin Titan
elementary school tournament.
For AAA girls, the Summers' Corners Sabres took home the silver medal, losing to
London Westmont, in the final. Summers' Corners was undefeated this season until
meeting Westmount.
The Callwood Cobras edged Antler River, 25-19, 17-25, 15-13, for the bronze
medal in girls' A final.
Both the Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs (AAA) and Southwold Cougars (AA), missed
advancing from their respective pools.
