8U Cardinals walk-off to provincial glory

ST THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals are 8U provincial champions. Down 10-2 to the Woodstock Wranglers after two innings, the St. Thomas Cardinals stormed back with 16 runs over the next three innings, carrying the host team to a 22-14 win in the final of the Ontario Baseball Association 8U B championship, this morning at the Tarry Complex. Miles Tregenza knocked in Ashton Millyard for the winning run, igniting an eruption of a celebration among the team of mostly eight year olds and their coaches, parents and fans. Woodstock came in to the final undefeated at 4-0, meaning St. Thomas had to win twice for gold. The Cardinals took care of game one, with a 16-7 result Sunday evening.

8U Cardinals to one game final showdown

ST THOMAS - It will be a one game shown down for provincial glory. The St. Thomas Cardinals and Woodstock Wranglers clash in the Ontario Baseball Association 8U final, 9 a.m. Monday at the Tarry Complex. Both teams are 4-1, after the Cardinals defeated the Wranglers, 16-7, Sunday afternoon, handing Woodstock their first loss of the tournament.

13U Cardinals bring home OBA silver

SIMCOE, Ont. - The St. Thomas Cardinals are Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) 13U B silver medalists. Chatham edged the Cardinals, 9-8, in the final this morning. Chatham jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the game. Cardinals pitcher Colten Brookes came in relief, giving his team an opportunity to come back. Drew Bate drove in the tying run with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. St Thomas surrendered one run in the seventh and were unable to tie it in the bottom of the inning.
St. Thomas finishes with a 4-2 record. Mathew East and Drew Bate led the team with 10 hits each for the tournament, while Quinn Wilson and Connor Schaap, both had eight hits.

8U Cardinals advance to day three

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals are one of five teams remaining at the Ontario Baseball Association 8U B championship. St. Thomas held off the Dorchester Diamondbacks, 10-9, to advance to Sunday's action, joining undefeated Woodstock (4-0), along with Simcoe(3-1), Grimsby(2-1) and Leamington(3-1). Earlier Saturday, the Cardinals mercied Welland, 20-5, in five innings. Leamington defeated St. Thomas, 13-7, on Friday evening after the Cardinals had a bye.

13U & 11U Cardinals provincial update

SIMCOE, Ont. - The St. Thomas Cardinals are 4-1 going into day three at the Ontario Baseball Association 11U B championship. The Cardinals split games on Friday, defeating Grimsby, 5-4, but falling to LaSalle, 3-2. This morning, St Thomas came back from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Leamington, 6-5, improving to 2-1. Then the Cardinals won back to back games, edging Brockton, 4-3 and downing host Simcoe Giants, 7-2.
At Bracebridge, in the 11U provincials, St. Thomas finished 1-2. The Cardinals opened the 11U event, no-hitting Northumberland, 15-0, but fell to Dorchester, 6-5 and Waterdown, 10-2.

15U Cardinals 2-1 at B provincials

TILLSONBURG, Ont. - The St. Thomas Cardinals are 2-1 at the Ontario Baseball Association 14U B championship. St. Thomas mercied Innisfil, 18-3 and Grimsby, 15-5, but were blanked 10-0, by Leamington Saturday evening. The Cardinals face Grimsby again Sunday morning in a must win game to remain alive.

Fifth inning carries U13 Cards to LDBA title

LONDON, Ont. - The St. Thomas Cardinals are the London and District Baseball U13 champions. A seven run fifth inning propelled the Cardinals to a 12-2 win over London Talons, in the final August 27. Next up for these Cardinals is the Ontario Baseball U13 tournament Labour Day weekend in Simcoe. This group has won five consecutive LDBA titles.

U15 Cardinals dominate league playoffs

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals went in to the London District Baseball Association 15U playoffs as the front runners and the red birds didn't disappoint. Following a 17-3-1 regular season, the Cardinals flew through the playoffs, winning all three games, at Emslie Field over the weekend. Wyatt Atchison dominated on the mound, pitching a complete game five inning shutout, striking out six batters, silencing North London, 13-0, in the final Sunday morning.

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas 8U Cardinals have been rolling this season. The Cardinals are 17-3 in the London District Baseball Association (LDBA) and recently won a tournament in London and made the semifinals at LaSalle.

Broderick selected to Team Ontario baseball

ST. THOMAS - Five years ago Cassidy Broderick was active in basketball, soccer and dance. One evening at a friend's home, Broderick started hitting baseballs off of a tee. From never touching a baseball, a love for the game consumed her and Broderick joined the St. Thomas Cardinals for the 2018 season. This summer, just four years into her career, the 14-year old was named to Team Ontario, for the Canadian 16U girls baseball championship, in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, August 25-28.

Cardinals' teams win three provincial silver

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals had to settle for silver at three provincial championships. The Cardinals were silver medalists at the Ontario Baseball 13U 'C', 14U 'B' and 9U tournaments, this past weekend. Leamington completed an undefeated run of six wins, downing St. Thomas, 11-5, in the 14U 'B' final, at Emslie Field. St. Marys defeated St. Thomas twice Sunday, including 18-7, in the final, at the Tarry Complex. St. Thomas blanked the Aylmer Pirates, 7-0, in an all Elgin County 13U semifinal. The 9U Cardinals lost their final to Woodstock, in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Cardinals undefeated at 13U provincials

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals are in a good spot heading in to the final day of the Ontario Baseball 13U championship. St. Thomas is the lone undefeated team, at 3-0, following a 9-3 win over St. Marys, Saturday at the Tarry Complex.
The Cardinals scored three runs in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Cardinals in flight for LDBA U14 title

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals are a win away from playing for the London and District Baseball Association 14U title. The Cardinals face London Talons in a semifinal, Wednesday, 8 p.m., at Emslie Field. Originally scheduled for today, the game, along with the final, was postponed due to rain.  St. Thomas opened playoffs Friday night, with a 12-4 win against North London. The Cardinals improved to 2-0, thumping Sarnia, 14-2, Saturday morning. The London Talons hooked their claws in to the Cardinals, for a 16-4 win, Saturday afternoon. London West (2-1) got the bye directly to the final, leaving the semifinal to be another battle of the birds.

ST. THOMAS - London West left the Railway City with two minor baseball titles. London West won both the 18U and 11U divisions, over the weekend at the Cardinal Classic.

Cardinals capture ICBA Loop A 12U title

ST. THOMAS - Tayven Barned, Luke Thomas and Aaron Dyke, each drove in two runs to lead the St. Thomas Cardinals to a 7-4 win over the Brantford Jr. Red Sox, in the ICBA bracket A 12U final, at the Tarry Complex. Barned also starred on the mound, tossing a one hit shutout over four innings, striking out nine batters and walking three.

Cards clinch first to host 12U playoffs

ST. THOMAS - A first place finish allows the St. Thomas Cardinals to host the 12U playoffs. The Cardinals wrapped up their exhibition schedule, finishing at 8-2, defeating Brantford on the road, before splitting a double-header with Hamilton, at the Tarry Complex on Saturday. St. Thomas will host their semifinal, Friday, September 4th, at 7 p.m.

Barned leads 12U Cardinals

ST. THOMAS - Thanks to a pair of 10 run games, the St. Thomas Cardinals' U12 team has improved to 6-1 for the season. Tayven Barned belted a home run and added a single, collecting four RBI, to lead the Cardinals to a 10-5 win in game one against the Brantford Jr. Red Sox. Barned tossed a shut out in game two, a 10-0 mercy win in five innings. Barned whiffed 10 batters, while allowing three hits and one base on ball.

12U Cardinals take twin bill from Cambridge

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals improved to 4-1 with a pair of wins over the Cambridge Cubs in 12U minor baseball exhibition play, at the Tarry Complex. In a shortened season due to COVID-19, St. Thomas is having exhibition double-headers with Cambridge, Brantford and Hamiltion throughout the month of August.

Keyframe and Formet rout way to STMBA house league titles

ST. THOMAS - Neither Keyframe Communications nor Formet Industries wasted time capturing their respective St. Thomas Minor Baseball house league championship.
Keyframe completed a sweep of both the regular season and playoff peewee titles, defeating Centennial Sports Club, 13-2, in a five inning mercy, in the final.
In the mosquito final, Formet also needed just five innings to take care of Centennial Sports Club, 16-4.

Yurek takes an all St. Thomas 18U House League final

ST. THOMAS -  St. Thomas had the monopoly on the London and District Baseball Association (LDBA) 18U midget house league championship. It was an all St. Thomas Cardinals final, as Yurek Pharmacy silenced Dowler-Karn, 15-0, after four innings, at Emslie Field. Collin Banman pitched four perfect innings on just 43 pitches for the win.

Provincial title caps dominant year for minor rookie Cardinals

ST. THOMAS –  When the St. Thomas Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season, the defeat could have been too stunning to overcome. It was day two of the Baseball Ontario minor rookie B tournament and the feature match between the two remaining unbeaten teams, Northumberland being the opponent. Instead, the Cardinals brushed aside the setback, upped it up a notch and won three consecutive games, to capture the provincial championship, including beating Northumberland twice in the final.

Cardinals find home for indoor practice facility

ST. THOMAS –  Coming soon is an indoor training facility for local baseball players, right in the heart of St. Thomas. The city's minor baseball association, the Cardinals, is leasing the former Capital Theatre building at 560 Talbot Street.

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals were finalist in the major mosquito division at the Cardinal Classic minor baseball tournament, at the Tarry Complex. The Cardinals were 4-0 before losing 18-6, to the London Tecumsehs in the final.

Major rookie Cardinals bring home OBA provincial gold

CHATHAM, ON - By taking the rubber match, the St. Thomas Cardinals are OBA major rookie champions. The Cardinals beat the Norththumberland Jacks in the second game of the OBA 'A' final this morning, finishing with a record of 6-1. St. Thomas and Northumberland met three times in the double knockout tournament, including both teams' opening game on Friday that the Cardinals won.
Northumberland prevented the Cardinals from going undefeated by winning game one of the final, 7-5, late Sunday.

Exeter Express send Cardinals packing

ST. THOMAS - The Exeter Express built a 5-0 lead and held on to eliminate the St. Thomas Cardinals, 5-4, in a London and District Baseball Association (LDBA) bantam semi-final, at Emslie Field.
Trailing 5-0, the Cardinals rallied with a run in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth, but couldn't push home the equalizer. Carter Neil had a two-run single for the Cardinals, and Ben North a sac RBI. The London Tecumsehs edged Exeter, 2-1, in the final, at Emslie Field.

Cardinals remain alive in LDBA bantam playoffs

ST. THOMAS - After squandering a 5-0 lead, the St. Thomas Cardinals regrouped to edge the Sarnia Braves, 7-6, in the London and District Baseball Association (LDBA) Bantam playoffs, at Emslie Field. Sarnia took a 6-5 lead scoring three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The Cardinals responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth.  St. Thomas is 2-1, after opening the five team double knock-out tournament, with a 2-1 win, over Sarnia, and a 5-4 loss, to the London Tecumsehs.  The Cardinals play the Exeter Express (2-1) in a semi-final, Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner plays the Tecumsehs (2-1) in the final.

Cardinals house league playoffs this weekend

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals minor baseball mosquito and peewee house league playoffs, start Friday, at the Tarry Complex. Ansell's Awards finished first in the mosquito division, with 38 points, well ahead of St. Thomas Optimist Club, in second spot with 22 points. In the peewee division, Centennial Sports Club took top spot, with 26 points, four points up on runner-up Rotostatic, and six more than third place Ron's Auto Service.
