Beggs swimming off to Edinboro

BELMONT, Ont. - Emma Beggs has chosen the pool to be swimming in for the next four years. The Grade 12 student at East Elgin Secondary school, in Aylmer, has committed to attend PennWest Edinboro University, in Edinboro, Pennsylvania.
Beggs will be studying Exercise Science and continuing her competitive swimming career, with the Fighting Scots, NCAA Division II school, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Beggs swims best times at Eastern Canadians

BELMONT, Ont. - Emma Beggs had her best swims of the season at the right time. The Belmont resident, who trains with the Ingersoll Speed Sharks, posted seasonal best times in three races at the Eastern Canadian swim championships, April 21-24, in Pointe Claire, Quebec.red Central Elgin and East Elgin.

Gillet swims to OFSAA bronze

TORONTO, ON. - Owen Gillet had already left the pool thinking he had missed the podium, in the para men's 50 metre back stroke at the OFSAA swimming championships.
Then East Elgin Eagles' coach Carol McNiece caught up with the St. Joseph's Ram Grade 11 student, telling Gillet he had won a bronze medal.

Eagles make eight finals at OFSAA swimming

TORONTO, ON. - Owen Gillet had already left the pool thinking he had missed the podium, in the para men's 50 metre back stroke at the OFSAA swimming championships.
Then East Elgin Eagles' coach Carol McNiece caught up with the St. Joseph's Ram Grade 11 student, telling Gillet he had a bronze medal.
The East Elgin Eagles' team of 15 swimmers placed 24th overall and were the top school out of the WOSSAA region. The Eagles made appearances in three A finals and five B finals.

Barry and Rams' para team off to OFSAA swimming

LONDON, ON. - St. Joseph's Ram Luke Barry won the open men's 100 breast (1:15.42) at Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) swimming, to qualify for OFSAA, the high school provincial meet. Barry also finished 12th, in the open boys' 50 free (29.09 sec.) but missed the qualifying standard. Four para swimmers will join Barry at the provincial meet. Serena Hu, Owen Gillet, Diego Alban-Gasca and Gabe Dala. The East Elgin Eagles dominated in pool at WOSSAA, not only sending 15 swimmers to OFSAA, but capturing the team award at the championships.

Eagles send 15 to OFSAA swimming capturing WOSSAA team award

LONDON, ON. - Alyssa Voros made a good choice returning to the pool. The East Elgin Eagle is heading to the OFSAA swimming championships in three events, including the High School Division 15 years and over 100-metre back, an event Voros won at Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) swimming. East Elgin dominated in pool at WOSSAA, not only sending 15 swimmers to OFSAA championships, but capturing the team award at the championships, held at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.

Eagles soar at TVRA swimming

LONDON, ON. - The East Elgin Eagles are among the big three in local high school swimming. East Elgin placed third in combined team (male, female and para divisions) scores in the High School Division, while the Lady Eagles placed second for both the Open and High School women's divisions, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) swimming championships, February 11-12, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC).
St. Joe's won the men's Para division and the combined team scores for Para.

Michie swims to two gold medal at World Games

ABU DHABI - Gordie Michie, of St.Thomas is a double gold medalist, at the World Special Olympics Games. Michie won both the 50-metre fly (personal best time of 27.38 seconds) and 50-metre free (25.84 sec.) swimming races. Today, the 25-year old Michie captured a silver medal with Team Canada's 4x50-metre medley relay team.

PCI's McCaw eighth in OFSAA 50 fly final

TORONTO, ON. - Briar McCaw, of Parkside C.I., placed eighth in the under 14 girls' 50-metre fly A final (33.33 seconds), at the OFSAA swimming championships, today at the Pan Am Sports Centre.
McCaw also won the U14 girls' 100-metre I.M. B final, in 1:16.89 (ninth overall).
Seth Walker led the East Elgin Eagles on day two of the provincial two day event. Walker finished 12th, in the 15 years and over boys' 50-metre fly (28.92 sec.), but was disqualified in the 100-metre I.M. final. Walker had a preliminary time of 1:07.65 to advance to the final. Eagles' teammates Lauren Kremers placed 19th, in the U14 girls' 100-metre I.M. (1:20.38), Haileigh Neusteter, 28th, in the 15 year and over girls' 50-metre fly (34.13 sec.) and Haly Broer was 36th, in the open girls' 200-metre I.M. (2:39.44)
St. Joseph's Ram Kayla Keyes placed fifth, in the 15 years and over girls' 50-metre fly B final (13th overall) in 33.25 seconds and 21st, in the 100-metre free (1:08.47).

Bonnett, Gillet lead St. Joe's at OFSAA swimming

TORONTO, ON. - Carson Bonnett and Owen Gillet had the top results for the St. Joe's Rams, on day one of the OFSAA swimming championships, at the Pan Am Sports Centre. Bonnett was sixth, in the B final (14th overall), for the under-14 boys (junior) high school 50-metre back. Fellow Ram Owen Gillet was fifth in the para boys' 50-metre backstroke and 11th, in the 50-metre freestyle races.
Diego Alban-Gasca was 19th, in the para boys' 50 back and 30th, in the 50 free. Gabriel Dala was 18th in the para boys' 50 back. Sarina Hu placed 29th, in the para girls' 50-metre free.

Eagles' Kremers fourth in 50 backstroke at OFSAA

TORONTO, ON. - Lauren Kremers finished fourth, touching the wall in 34.98 seconds, in the under-14 girls (junior) high school 50-metre backstroke final, at the OFSAA swimming championships, today at the Pan Am Sports Centre. The Grade nine student was the East Elgin Eagles' top result on day one of the two day event. Haley Broer was 22nd, in the open girls' 100-metre backstroke (1:08.47). Brianna Cunningham and Melena Siannas, placed 37th and 43rd, respectively, in the 15 years and over girls' high school 100-metre backstroke. The Eagles' U14 girls' 200-metre medley relay team, with Kremers, was 29th. Cunningham, Siannas, Sarah Smith and Haileigh Neusteter, placed 28th, in the 15 years and over girls' 200-metre medley relay race.

Ten Eagles in 10 events soar to OFSAA swimming

AYLMER, ON. - The East Elgin Eagles will have 10 athletes, five individuals in eight events, plus two relay teams, at OFSAA, the provincial high school swimming championships, at the Pan Am Sports Centre, in Toronto, March 5-6th. Seth Walker, Haley Broer and Lauren Kremers, each with two and Bri Cunningham, Melena Siannas and Haileigh Neusteter, all have individual races. The Eagles have teams in both the under-14 and over 15 years girls' 200-metre medley relay races.

Seventeen swimmers from three schools qualify for OFSAA

LONDON, ON. - Briar McCaw and Kayla Keyes are returning to OFSAA, while Seth Walker will lead an entire flock of East Elgin Eagles. Highlights were numerous for Elgin County schools at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) swim championships, at Western University. Thirteen individuals from East Elgin, St. Joe's and Parkside and two Eagles' relay teams, advanced from WOSSAA to the provincial high school meet, March 5-6, in Toronto.

Eagles' team place fifth overall at TVRA swimming

LONDON, ON - The East Elgin Eagles are swimming with the big fish. At Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) swim championships, held at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, February 14th, the Eagles placed fifth overall in the team standings, out of 29 teams. The Eagles have 13 individuals and three relay teams, qualifying for the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) meet, February 19th, at Western University.
The St Joseph's Rams won the para division and will send 16 individuals and two relay teams to WOSSAA. The Parkside Stampeders have seven advancing and the Central Elgin Titans, three. The Dorchester Beavers will be represented by Aidan Currah.

Watson takes OFSAA bronze in 50-metre fly

WINDSOR, ON. - Mac Watson won a bronze medal in the junior men’s high school division 50-metre fly, on day two of the OFSAA swimming championships. The Parkside Collegiate Institute athlete adds to his OFSAA medal collection, that includes a silver (50 free) and bronze (100 free) from a year ago. Briar McCaw, also of Parkside, won the B final, finishing ninth overall, in the junior girls' high school division 50-metre back and 15th, in the 50m fly.
Kayla Keyes, of St. Joseph’s high school, placed 16th, in the senior girls’ high school division 100-metre fly and 24th, in the 100m free. Brennan Piche-Leclair, of East Elgin secondary school, placed sixth, in the para men’s 100m free.

Piche-LeClair wins OFSAA silver in para 50m back

WINDSOR, ON. - Brennan Piche-LeClair is an OFSAA silver medalist. The 16-year old student at East Elgin Secondary school finished second in the para men’s 50-metre backstroke, at the OFSAA swimming championships. Piche-LeClair set a personal best time touching the wall in 47.78 seconds, lowering his best time from 49.11. In the para men’s 50-metre free, Piche-LeClair finished sixth. Fellow Eagle Haley Broer was 17th, in the open girls’ 100m back (1:09.8).
Parkside C.I.’s Mac Watson finished fifth, in the junior men’s 50m free (26.86 sec.), just three-tenths of a second off of the podium, while the silver medal was won in 26.29 seconds.
Owen Gillet, of St. Joseph’s high school, was eighth in the para men’s 50m back. The 13-year also finished 17th, in the para men’s 50m free. Gillet's teammate Gabriel Dala, was 26th in the para men’s 50m free, but was disqualified in the para 50m back. In the para women’s 50m free, St. Joe’s Brooklyn Reiter was 26th.
Hailey Demeray, of St. Joe’s high school, placed 17th, in the junior girls’ 50m breaststroke (40.63 sec.).

Piche-LeClair and Broer qualify for OFSAA swimming

LONDON, ON –  The East Elgin Eagles were led by two OFSAA qualifiers, para-athlete Brennan Piche-LeClair and Haley Broer,  at the WOSSAA swim championships, at Western University. Both advance to OFSAA, February 27/28, in Windsor. Piche-LeClair set personal bests winning the para mixed 50-metre backstroke (49.11 sec.) and placing second in both 50m free and 100m free. Broer was third in the open girls’ 100-metre back (1:10.48).

Parkside CI's Watson and McCaw golden three times in the pool

LONDON, ON –  Mac Watson and Briar McCaw are three-time WOSSAA gold medalists in the pool. The Parkside Collegiate Institute athletes, won every race entered, at the WOSSAA swim championships, at Western University. Both advance to OFSAA, February 27/28, in Windsor. Watson won the 14 years and under boys’ high school division, 50-metre fly (30.38 seconds), 50m free (27.57 sec.) and 100m free (1:02.69). McCaw was the fastest in the 14 years and under girls’ high school division, 50-metre fly (33.88 seconds), 50m back (36.73 sec.) and 100m I.M. (1:19.76).

Keyes wins twice at WOSSAA swimming

LONDON, ON –  St. Joseph's Ram Kayla Keyes won the 15 years and over girls’ high school division 50m free (33.27 sec.) and 100m free (1:08.12) and placed second in the 200m free, at the WOSSAA swim championships, at Western University. Both advance to OFSAA, February 27/28, in Windsor. Hailey Demeray, qualified for OFSAA, finishing second in the 14 years and under girls’ high school division 50-metre breaststroke (40.91 seconds). Owen Gillet, Gabriel Dala and Brooklyn Reiter, will all compete at OFSAA, in the para mixed 50 metre free and 50m back.

Watson repeats swimming feat winning his three TVRA races

ST. THOMAS –  Mac Watson is continuing where he left off from last season. The Grade 10 student at Parkside Collegiate Institute won the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre free and 50-metre butterfly, in the 14 years and under boys’ high school division, repeating a feat he accomplished a year ago, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics swimming championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Watson finished the 2017 swim season at OFSAA, bringing home a silver medal in the boys’ 14 years and under 50 free and a bronze in the 100 free. Prior to the provincial high school championships, Watson touched the wall first in each of his three races, both at WOSSAA and TVRA. Parkside's Briar McCaw, St. Joseph's Kayla Keyes and Hailey Demeray, East Elgin Eagles Brennan Piche-LeClair and Haley Broer and Dorchester's Cloe Selinga, also made splashes at the meet.

PCI's Watson finishes second in three swim races

LONDON, ON. –  Mac Watson led all local athletes at the final invitational swim meet before the championship season begins in February. The Parkside Collegiate Institute swimmer placed second in the boys’ 50-metre free, 50m fly and 100m free races, at the Winter Classic, January 11, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC). Jillian Barlett led the St. Joseph's Rams placing fourth in the girls' 50-metre breast and sixth, in the 50m back. The 2018 TVRA swim championships are February 6-7, followed by WOSSAA, on February 15, both at the CGAC. OFSAA returns to Windsor, February 27-28.

Watson a double OFSAA medalist

WINDSOR, ON - Mac Watson is an OFSAA double medalist. The 13-year old student at Parkside CI won two medals at the OFSAA swimming championships, setting personal best times in both finals. In his first race, Watson won a silver medal in the 14 and under boys’ junior high school 50-metre free, touching the wall in 26.15 seconds. A bronze medal followed, in the 14 and under boys’ junior high school 100-metre free, lowering his fastest time to 58.54 seconds.

Keyes sets PBs at OFSAA swimming

WINDSOR, ON. - Kayla Keyes set two personal best times, placing ninth in the junior girls’ high school 50-metre fly (33.99 seconds) and 17th in the 50m free (30.81), on day one of the OFSAA swimming championships.
“It felt great because I met my goals I set for myself. I wanted to be 31 seconds or better for free and 34 seconds or better for fly," said Keyes, who competed for the second time. “It is an overwhelming experience due to the number of swimmers, but an amazing experience to meet swimmers from all over Ontario and see many talented swimmers.”
Cloe Seligna, of Lord Dorchester, placed 24th in the open girls' 100-metre fly (1:09.2) and 37th in the 50 free (28.8 sec.).

Keyes turns in four OFSAA qualifying swims

LONDON, ON. - Kayla Keyes has qualified for OFSAA in four events. The St. Joseph's Rams' swimmer qualified in each of her individual races and a relay, at the WOSSAA championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Keyes won the high school 14 and under girls' division 50-metre freestyle and placed second in the 50m butterfly and the 100m free. Keyes, along with team-mates Breanne Bonter, Haeley Demeray and Madison Morin, finished second, in the high school senior girls' 200-metre medley relay.

Wilson swims to three TVRA gold medals

LONDON, ON - Mac Watson could not be beat. The Parkside Collegiate Institute Grade nine athlete won his three races, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics swim championships, at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Watson was first in the high school division under-14 boys 50-metre butterfly (29.81 seconds), 100-metre free (1:00.74) and 50-metre free (27.05 sec.).
