Third period strike carries Stars to series win

PARKHILL, Ont. - The first place North Middlesex Stars are off to the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division semifinals. The Stars scored three times in the third period, on way to a 6-4 win over the Port Stanley Sailors, taking the quarterfinal series four games to one. Kam Korab with two goals, Hunter Gilchrist and Logan Matos, had the Sailors up 4-3 after two periods. Aiden Shaw picked up two assists. Colin Langstaff led the Stars with two goals and one assist.

Weston gives North Midd lead

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Jake Weston scored twice and Ethan Tichenoff had a goal and two assists, as the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Port Stanley Sailors, 3-1, for a two games to one lead in the best of seven PJHL divisional quarterfinal.
Kasey Anderson gave Port a 1-0 lead.

Conway OT winner ties series for Sailors

PARKHILL, Ont. - Shane Conway scored 12 minutes in to overtime lifting the Port Stanley Sailors to a 3-2 win over the North Middlesex Stars, to even the best of seven PJHL divisional quarterfinal at a game each. Dylan Watson and Devon Kaplanis had the Sailors up 2-1. Ethan Tichenoff put the Stars on the board first and then assisted on Brayden Heessels goal that tied the game at two. North Middlesex won game one Friday, blanking Port Stanley, 5-0.

Sailors snap six game slide

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Hunter Gilchrist netted a hat trick helping the Port Stanley Sailors end their six game winless slide, with a 6-3 win over the Aylmer Spitfires. Tyson Benson, Logan Matos and Devon Kaplanis, in his 100th career junior game, also scored for the Sailors. The Sailors only had one tie since a 1-0 win at Mt. Brydges January 20th and are 3-9-1 in 2023, sitting seventh (13-17-3-3) in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division. Isaak McGinnis did all the scoring for Aylmer (3-31-0-1). Dylan Watson leads the Sailors in scoring, with 16 goals and 12 assists, for 28 points. Both Aiden Shaw and Trent Clinton have 12 goals and 13 assists. Kam Korab has a team high 16 assists.

Short completes hat trick in OT

DORCHESTER, Ont. - Josh Short completed a hat trick scoring six and half minutes in to overtime, with his team leading 23rd goal of the season, to lift the Dorchester Dolphins over the Port Stanley Sailors, 5-4. Short had the final three goals for Dorchester, tying the game at three before givng the home side, a 4-3 advantage. Sailors' Trent Clinton sent the game to OT, knotting the score with 13 seconds remaining in regulation time. Dorchester led 2-0, on goals by Evan Sawyer and Cooper Kilbourne. Port took a a 3-2, with Kam Korab, Devon Kaplanis and Liam Kidder, scoring within a six minute span.

Captain leads Dolphins

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Dylan Vandersleen scored twice to lead the Dorchester Dolphins pass the Port Stanley Sailors, 5-3, tonight along Lake Erie's north shore. The Dolphins' captain's shorthanded marker tied the game at two in the final minute of the opening period, after the Sailors led 2-0 early. Josh Short, with his team leading 20th and Paterson MacNair, both had a goal and an assist. Austin Connors also scored for the Dolphins. Dylan Watson, with his team high 16th goal, Aiden Shaw and Kasy Anderson, bulged twine for the Sailors. Port out shot Dorchester, 39-36. Vandersleen has four goals and three assists in his past eight games, after missing a month of the season due to injury. Dorchester (16-13-3-1) is fifth, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck division, while Port (12-15-2-3) sits seventh.

Sailors upend first place Trojans

THAMESFORD, Ont. - The Port Stanley Sailors have surfaced above the water. For the first time this season, the Sailors are sitting above the .500 mark, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. Aiden Shaw scored three minutes and 24 seconds in to overtime, lifting the Sailors to a 6-5 win over first place Thamesford Trojans. The 10th win of the season moves the Sailors in to fifth place, in the Yeck Division, with 24 points. Thamesford led 3-0 barely 11 minutes in to the first period, but the Sailors initiated their rally 16 seconds later. Aiden Holder, Liam Kidder and Kam Korab, had the game tied by the 14 minute mark. The Trojans did take a 4-3 lead into the intermission. Dylan Watson, with his 13th goal of the season and Trent Clinton, put the Sailors up 5-4. Kalob Morgado, Will Lewis, Matt Pimentel, Alex MacLeod and Matson Micallef, scored for Thamesford. Sailors' goalie Will Richardson made 53 saves. Watson leads the Sailors with 13 goals and 22 points. Rickwood has a team best 11 assists. Shaw has nine goals and nine assists.

Dolphins stop Sailors' win streak

DORCHESTER, Ont. - Two streaks were halted this night. The Dorchester Dolphins snapped a six game losing skid, defeating the Port Stanley Sailors, 6-2, ending their three win streak, Sunday. Tied at two mid second period, the Dolphins scored four unanswered goals. Jordan Daer had two goals and Paterson MacNair picked up four assists, to lead the Dolphins, to their first win since October 21. Nicholas Shearer, Tyler Taplay, Jakob Marche and Jarrett Humphries, rounded out the home team goal scoring. Hunter Gilchrist and Logan Matos, replied for the Sailors. The win keeps the Dolphins above .500, with a record of 8-7-1-0. The Sailors slide to 5-7-0-1.

Sailors on three game win streak

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - The Port Stanley Sailors are on three game win streak. Dylan Watson scored twice and assisted on the game winning goal by Wesley Griffiths, as the Sailors sunk the Lucan Irish, 5-1. Theo Morrison and Shane Conway, also had goals for Port, while Aiden Shaw, picked up two assists. The streak in the right direction is the longest in a number of years for the Sailors. Port Stanley moves to within a game of .500 at 5-6-0-1, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division.

Sailors riding winning wave

AYLMER, Ont. - It is a winning streak for the Port Stanley Sailors. The Sailors doubled their season win total this weekend winning at both Dorchester and Aylmer. Kam Korab, Aiden Shaw, Logan Matos and Liam Kidder, scored as the Sailors downed the Aylmer Spitfires, 4-2, taking a 2-0 lead in the battle of Elgin County this season. Tyler Rennie and Isaak McGinnis, replied for the Spits.
After losing three consecutive games earlier this month, Port Stanley has gone 3-2, improving their record to 4-6-0-1, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division. Aylmer slides to 2-11-0-0.

First win against Dolphins

DORCHESTER, Ont. - Dylan Watson and Trent Clinton, in to an empty net, scored over the final six minutes of the third period, carrying the Port Stanley Sailors over the Dorchester Dolphins, 4-2. The Sailors led 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Clinton and Theo Morrison. Paterson MacNair, with his team leading seventh and eighth goals, scored for Dorchester.

Dolphins hold off Sailors' late surge

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Dylan Watson had a hat trick but it wasn't enough for the Port Stanley Sailors, as the Dorchester Dolphins held off home side, 6-4. The Sailors trailed 5-2, in the third, before Watson scored twice.
Dorchester built a 3-0 lead, on two goals by Bryce Darville and one from Jarrett Humphries. Port responded with Watson and Wesley Griffiths potting pucks. Jakob Marche and Jack Uniac, made it 5-2 Phins' and Paterson MacNair scored an insurance goal, with three seconds remaining in the game. Jordan Daer picked up three assists. Dorchester is 6-2-0-0, while Port Stanley is 2-5-0-1, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division.

Goals pour in as Sailors drown Flyers

PETROLIA, Ont. - Trent Clinton, Dylan Watson and Jaden Vansevenant, each scored twice, as the Port Stanley Sailors washed out the Petrolia Jets, 10-2. Devon Kaplanis, Trent Rickwood, Liam Kidder and Theo Morrison, also potted goals for Port.
Wesley Griffiths and Tyson Benwell, both picked up two assists. Port led 6-2 after 20 minutes. The Sailors are sixth in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division, two points behind fifth place Exeter.

Sailors edge Spitfires in home opener

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Kam Korab had the game winner and assisted on Aiden Shaw's opening goal, as the Port Stanley Sailors edged the visiting Aylmer Spitfires, 3-2, tonight in Provincial Junior Hockey. Trent Rickwood also scored, giving the home side a 2-1 lead in the second period. Tanner Strain and Jonathan Baur, replied for the Spits.
At Exeter Friday, Port Stanley battled to a 3-3 draw, with Theo Morrison, Kenny Masschale and Ryan Jeffrey scoring.

Griffiths lifts Bulldogs to OT win sweeping Sailors

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Nolan Griffiths scored three minutes and 37 seconds (3:37) in to the second overtime period, to lift the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs over the Port Stanley Sailors, 3-2. The win completes a four game sweep of the Sailors in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division quarterfinal. Andrews Gysbers and Trent Rickwood scored for Port. Joe Capirchio had two goals and an assist for the 'Dogs.

MT. BRYDGES, Ont. - Blake Griffiths had a goal and two assists to lead the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs to a 4-1 win over thePort Stanley Sailors this afternoon. The Bulldogs have a 3-0 series lead, with game four at Port Stanley on Tuesday, March 15.
Trent Rickwood scored for Port. Lucas Balanca, Nathan Lavender and Toby Rizzo, also netted pucks for the 'Dogs.

Bulldogs grab two nothing lead

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Blake Griffiths' late second period goal held to be the game winner as the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs defeated the Port Stanley Sailors, 4-1. Mt. Brydges leads the best of seven PJHL Yeck Division quarterfinal, two games to none.
Andrew Gysbers scored the lone Sailors' goal, on a third period power play, making the score, 3-1. Thomas Guidolin, Joe Capirchio and Kearnan Jenny, completed the Bulldogs' scoring.

Ten minute span dooms Sailors

MT. BRYDGES, Ont. - Four goals in a 10 minute span made the difference. The Port Stanley Sailors dropped game one of their PJHL Yeck Division quarterfinal, 7-4, to the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs. The Port Stanley Stanley Sailors led 2-1 after one period, before the Bulldogs bit their visitors with four goals in less than 10 minutes in the second period. Mt. Brydges took a 3-2 lead, with two goals in 22 seconds, five minutes in to the middle frame. Shane Conway, Trent Rickwood, Andrew Gysbers and Joe Verhaeghe, scored for the Sailors. Port goalie Wyatt Sloetjes made 43 saves. Joe Capirchio, with two goals, Taylor Toth, Lucas Balanca, Noah Bruinink, Austin Murray and Stuat Ireland, buried pucks for the Bulldogs.

Sailors blank Trojans to wrap regular season

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Hunter Gilchrist's unassisted goal in the first period held to be the game's only goal, as the Port Stanley Sailors blanked the Thamesford Trojans, 1-0. Rhett Devries made 37 saves for the shutout in the Sailors' net. Trojans' keeper Brant Galbraith stopped 22 pucks. Port finishes the regular season with a 6-22-1-1 record. But the Sailors have been 3-4-0-0 since play resumed in the PJHL Yeck Division.

North Midd's last minute goal sinks Sailors

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Jacob Howard scored with 19 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the North Middlesex Stars past the Port Stanley Sailors, 5-4. Port led 2-0 early in the first period and 4-3 after two periods.
Theo Morrison with two goals, Kam Korab and Andrew Gybers, with his team leading 18th goal of the season, scored for Port. Trent Rickwood drew two assists, while Gybers, picked up his team best 16th helper.
The Sailors were seeking back to back wins for the first time this season, after beating Exeter in overtime 24 hours earlier. Gybers leads the Sailors with 34 points, 12 more than the next Sailor, Jordan Medeiros, at 22 points.

Gysbers lifts Sailors over division leading Hawks

EXETER, Ont. - Andrew Gybers scored four minutes and 33 seconds (4:33) into overtime, to lift the Port Stanley Sailors over the Yeck division leading Exeter Hawks, 5-4. It was Gysbers second of the game and his team leading 17th of the season.
The Sailors trailed 4-3 in the final minute of the third period, before Josh Vanbiesen tied the affair on the power play.
Exeter led 1-0 after 20 minutes and 2-1 after 40. Jaeden French put the Hawks up 3-1, with this second goal of the game, just a minute in to the third period. Port knotted it at three, with Joey Verhaeghe and Trent Rickwood scoring 1:13 apart, both on the power play.
Kevin Shuttleworth gave the Hawks, a 4-3 with about just under five minutes remaining in the third. Gybers leads the Sailors with 32 points, 11 more than the next Sailor, Jordan Medeiros, at 21.
Port is 2-2-0-0 since the PJHL resumed play. Exeter leads the division with a 12-4-2-1 record, for 45 points.

Sailors edged on the road for 20th loss of season

PARKHILL, Ont. - Andrew Henderson found the empty net, with 72 seconds remaining in the third period, securing a 6-4 win for the North Middlesex Stars against the Port Stanley Sailors.
The Stars never trailed in the game and held leads of 3-1 and 4-2. Port kept the game close with goals by Trent Rickwood, Andrew Gysbers, Jordan Medeiros and Josh Vanbiesen. Cameron Amos with two goals, Hayden Basso, Cale Johnstone and Bredan Nice, completed the Stars' scoring.

Gilchrist OT winner lifts Sailors over Bulldogs

PORT STANLEY, Ont. - Hunter Gilchrist sniped his second goal of the game, two minutes and 27 seconds into overtime, while shorthanded, giving the Port Stanley Sailors a 3-2 win against the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs tonight.
Gilchrist and Andrew Gysbers, on the power play, with his team best 13th goal of the season, gave Port a 2-0 first period lead. Brydges tied the game in the third on goals by Nolan and Blake Griffiths. Gybers assisted on both Gilchrist's goals, including his team leading 13th assist.

PARKHILL, ON. - Andrew Gysbers had two goals and assisted on both Richie Albert goals, but the Port Stanley Sailors fell to North Middlesex Stars, 7-5, this afternoon. Hunter Gilchrist also scored for the Sailors. Port was three for eight on the power play. Gysbers leads the Sailors with 23 points, on 12 goals and 11 assists. Leading North Middlesex was Jake Weston with two goals and three assists, Lucas Mann, a goal and two assists and Andrew Henderson with three assists.

French speaks game winner as Hawks edge Sailors

EXETER, ON. - Jaeden French had the game winning goal as the Exeter Hawks edged Port Stanley, 3-2, tonight. Andrew Gybers, with his ninth goal of the season and Devon Kaplanis, with his fourth, netted goals for the Sailors.

Bulldog Griffiths' hat trick sinks Sailors in OT

MT BRYDGES, ON. - Nolan Griffiths netted a hat trick including the equalizer and overtime winner, as the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs came back to edge the Port Stanley Sailors, 6-5. Trent Rickwood with two goals, Ryan Jeffrey, Andrew Gysbers and Devon Kaplanis scored for Port, while Jordan Medeiros picked up three assists. Kaplanis gave the Sailors a 5-4 lead with just under three minutes to go in the third period. But Griffiths tied the affair at five, 88 seconds later, before winning the game one minute and 49 seconds in to the extra period. Gybers leads the Sailors with 15 points, on seven goals and eight assists. Medeiros has eight goals and five assists. Rickwood has four goals and four assists in five games with the Sailors.

PORT STANLEY, ON. - Jordan Medeiros scored his eighth goal of the season with two minutes and 19 seconds remaining in the third period, to lift the Port Stanley Sailors pass the Lucan Irish, 3-2. THAMESFORD, ON. - Carter Chard scored twice and drew assists on goals by Curtis Topp and Luke Caldarozzi, leading the Thamesford Trojans to a 7-4 win over the Port Stanley Sailors. Two quick propel Dolphins to win over the Sailors

DORCHESTER, Ont. - Two goals in 13 seconds sent the Dorchester Dolphins on way to their ninth victory of the season. Tied at one, Michael Cecchi and Quinn Wenger scored 13 seconds apart in the sixth minute of the second period, for a Dolphins' 3-1 lead.
Captain Braidon Duncan picked off an errant Sailors' pass and sniped the Dolphins' fourth goal. Port Stanley's Daniel Guernsey and Dorchester's Jakob Marche, traded goals in the first period.

Gilchrist nets winner in Port's shutout

EXETER, ON. - A third period comeback fell a goal short as the Port Stanley Sailors were edged by the Exeter Hawks, 5-4. The Sailors trailed 5-1, entering the third period, before Jordan Medeiros and Andrew Gysbers scored on the power play. Gybers struck again with a buzzer beater. Port Stanley held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, on a goal by Theo Morrison. Exeter scored five consecutive goals, including back to back power play goals and one shorthanded. With a 1-10-0-0 record, the Sailors sit in the basement of the Yeck Division in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

PORT STANLEY, ON. - Carter Chard scored twice and set up Curtis Topp to lead the Thamesford Trojans in a 4-1 win against the Port Stanley Sailors. Chard netted two goals within a four minute span in the second half of the first period for a 2-0 Trojan lead.

Gilchrist nets winner in Port's shutout

PORT STANLEY, ON. - Hunter Gilchrist broke a scoreless tie with less than three minutes to go, as the Port Stanley Sailors blanked the North Middlesex Stars, 1-0, Tuesday, in the Provincial Junior Hockey.
Devon Kaplanis and Jordan Medeiros assisted on the power play goal, that led to the Sailors' first win of the season. Goalies Catalin Morin and Rhett Devries combined to make 44 saves to share the shutout.

LUCAN, Ont. - Three first period goals carried the Lucan Irish over the Port Stanley Sailors, 4-3, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division. A power play goal and short-handed marker helped the home team build a 3-0 lead in the opening period. Andrew Gysbers, Jordan Medeiros and Tyson Freisinger scored for Port. Jacob Van Arenthals with two goals, Colby Ackworth and Owen Peters had the Irish goals. The Lakers lost 6-0, at Mt Brydges on Friday.

Sailors drop home opener to Lucan

PORT STANLEY, ON. - The Port Stanley Lakers fell 7-2, to the Lucan Irish, in their home opener of the Provincial Junior Hockey League season. Port Stanley has their third game in three days, at Mt. Brydges on Sunday. The Lakers were swallowed whole by the Exeter Hawks, 13-0, on the road, Friday the 13th.

Bond hat trick sinks Sailors in Battle of Elgin

AYLMER, ON. - Matt Bond had a hat trick and Dylan Vandersleen potted two goals as the Aylmer Spitfires rolled over a short-staffed Port Stanley Sailors team, 10-2. Aylmer takes all five games of the Battle of Elgin this season and improve to 14-20-0-1 in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division. Bhrett Hibbert, Devon Kaplanis, Pete Vanderwyst, Sam Gredig and former Sailor Erik Scherer completed the Spitfire goal scoring. Luke Regier and Connor Lacey both picked up three assists, while Scherer, Kyle Hopper, Tanner Rickwood and Shane Koscis, had two helpers each.
Garrett Wells and Noah Crowley replied for Port Stanley.
The Spitfires had both of the game's only two minor penalties.
Aylmer continues to battle Lucan for sixth place, now tied with 29 points each. The Spitfires are 5-5 over their past 10 games and improve their home record to 10-7-0-1.  Scherer played 21 games with Port Stanley, before traded to Aylmer. After just a goal and five assists as a Sailor, the 19-year old Belmont native has eight goals and six assists in 12 games with the Spitfires. With just three games remaining and six points back of eighth place Mt Brydges, the Sailors (4-29-0-4) will miss the playoffs. Over the past two weeks, the Sailors unloaded top scorers Tyler Foslett (17 goals, 13 assists) to Lambeth, Austin Muscutt (12G, 10A) to North Middlesex, captain Derek Smith (6G, 10A) to Exeter, defenceman Brady Allen (3G, 10A) to Lambeth and defenceman Dawson Maton to Lucan.

Vandersleen leads Spitfires in Battle of Elgin

AYLMER, ON. - Dylan Vandersleen scores twice and sets up both goals by Erik Scherer, leading the Aylmer Spitfires to a 7-2 defeat of the Port Stanley Sailors, in PJHL action.
The Spitfires are 4-0 in the Battle of Elgin this season and improve to 11-18-0-1, seventh place in the Yeck Division. The Sailors are in danger of missing the playoffs, sitting in ninth spot, with a 4-24-0-4 record, two points behind Mt. Brydges. Peter Vanderwyst, Matt Bond and Devon Kaplanis also tally for the Spitfires. Noah Seguin picked up two assists. Nikolas Caetano and Lane Westgate replied for Port Stanley.

Aylmer wins 10th game downing Port Stanley

ST. THOMAS - Erik Scherer with two goals, Dawson Cook and Matt Bond score as the Aylmer Spitfires down the Port Stanley Sailors, 4-1, in PJHL Yeck Divisiom action at Memorial arena.
Dawson Maton gave Port a 1-0 lead. Aylmer wins their 10th game of the season and now lead Port Stanley, three games to none, in the Battle of Elgin. The teams meet twice more in the regular season.
The Spitfires move four points back of sixth place Lucan. Port sits in the cellar of the nine team division.

Muscutt strikes twice in Sailors' win

PORT STANLEY - Austin Muscutt scored twice included a shorthanded goal, lifting the Port Stanley Sailors over the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs, 3-1, in Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) action.
Dawson Maton also bulged the twine, while Tyler Foslett picked up two assists. Matt Poulin had the Bulldogs' goal. The two teams combined for 101 shots, with the Bulldogs have the edge with 52 fired at Sailors' goalie Ryan Langford. Port Stanley leap frogs Mt. Brydges into eighth place, in the PJHL Yeck Division, the final playoff position.

Richer's OT goal lifts Spitfires over Sailors in Battle of Elgin

ST. THOMAS - The Aylmer Spitfires may have got away with a penalty but they will take the two points. In the second instalment of the battle Elgin County this season, Aylmer improved to 2-0 with Connor Richer scoring on the power play 3:19 into overtime, lifting the Spitfires over the Port Stanley Sailors, 5-4, in Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division action, at Memorial Arena. 
The Spitfires sit seventh in the Yeck with an 8-14-0-1 record, seven points behind sixth place Lucan and seven points ahead of the Sailors.

Sailors face elimination trailing Hawks

EXETER, ON. - The Exeter Hawks scored twice on the power play, aiding the cause in a 4-1 win, over the Port Stanley Sailors, giving them a three games to two lead, in their Provincial Junior Hockey League series. Exeter held a 2-1 lead after one period, but a pair of goals with the man advantage in the third period secured a win. Meanwhile, the Sailors came up empty on eight of their own power plays. Eric Scherer scored for Port. Five games into series, the home team has not lost.

Series now a best of three affair

EXETER, ON. - It's now a best of three, after the Exeter Hawks tied the PJHL Yeck Division series at two games each, with a 3-2 win, over the Port Stanley Sailors. Eric Scherer and Tyler Foslett scored for the Sailors, who led 2-0, before the Hawks potted three in a row. Liam Melady, Evan Hayter, and Alex Bishop, with the game winner, buried pucks for the Hawks. Game five is here Friday.

Muscutt lifts Sailors to win and series 2-1 lead

PORT STANLEY, ON. –  Austin Muscutt scores 6:08 into overtime, as the Port Stanley Sailors defeat the Exeter Hawks, 3-2, for a 2-1 lead in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division series. Exeter led 1-0 and 2-1, but Mack Tufford, while short-handed and Brayden Latimer tied the game for Port. Dawson Cook and Brady Allen, each drew two assists.
The Hawks finished second in the regular season, while the Sailors were seventh.

Sailors reel in game one victory against Hawks

PORT STANLEY, ON. –  Tyler Kippax's power play goal mid third period stood to be the game winner, as the Port Stanley Sailors upended the Exeter Hawks, 5-3, in game 1 of their PJHL Yeck Divison series. Shane Kocsis-Cochrane, Austin Muscutt, Dawson Cook and Tyler Foslett, into an empty net, also scored for Port. Game one was originally scheduled in Exeter on Friday, but postponed due to weather.

Sailors defeat Spitfires in Battle of Elgin County

PORT STANLEY, ON. –  In the battle of Elgin County, the Port Stanley Sailors scored three times in the third period, to defeat the Aylmer Spitfire, 3-1, in Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division action. Austin Muscutt, Kyle Hopper and Derek Smith scored for the home side, after Jake Morin gave the Spits a 1-0 lead, in the second period. The win gives the Sailors the season series against the Spitfires, four games to one. Both team's power plays combined to go zero for 17. The Elgin rivals also combined for 78 minutes in penalties. Dawson Cook picked up two assists, to reach 50-points this season. Port Stanley (12-20-0-4) sits seventh in the Yeck five points up on Aylmer (11-26-0-1), with the regular season concluding on February 4th. steady

Sailors pull out win from penalty filled game

THAMESFORD, ON. –  During a steady march to the penalty box, there was a hockey game the Port Stanley Sailors won, 4-1, over the Thamesford Trojans, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Yeck Division. The Sailors led 3-0, on goal by Nick Knechtel, Derek Smith and Ethan Parent, before the penalty minutes begun to pile up. Brayden Latimer added a power play goal in the last minute of the third period. Thamesford's Kurtis White broke the shutout bid 17 seconds in to the final frame. The teams combined for 78 minutes of penalties, each with 13 power plays.

Hopper scores twice in Sailors' opening win

EXETER, ON. –  Kyle Hopper scored twice, to lead the Port Stanley Sailors, over the Exeter Hawks, 4-2, in both teams’ opening game, to the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) season.
Hopper tied the game at one, midway through the second period and added an unassisted empty net goal, in the dying seconds of the game. Austin Muscutt and Tyler Foslett, with a shorthanded marker, also scored for Port. Dawson Cook picked up two assists. Jon Baker had both Hawks’ goals.
