ST. THOMAS -
The St. Thomas Cardinals went in
to the London District Baseball Association 15U playoffs as the front runners
and the red birds didn't disappoint.
Following a 17-3-1 regular season,
the Cardinals flew through the playoffs, winning all three games, at Emslie
Field over the weekend.
Wyatt Atchison dominated on the
mound, pitching a complete game five inning shutout, striking out six batters,
silencing North London, 13-0, in the final Sunday morning.
Gavin Roose, Aiden Ward, Finn
Towers, and Luke Ordronneau produced key hits, as the Cardinals had a 13 hit
effort in total.
North London loaded the bases
twice , but the Cardinals defence made clutch plays to preserve the shutout.
St. Thomas opened the playoffs
downing the London AAA 14U Badgers, 7-5, in what would be their toughest game.
Pitcher Nathan Watson worked six
and two-thirds innings for the win.
The Cardinals took the lead in the
bottom of the second inning, on a Aiden Ward double.
Ward had a pair of hits and Cooper
Henderson went three-for-three, in a 7-3 win against the West London Tincaps.
Pitchers Callum Ryckman and Aiden
Ward combined to strike out nine batters over the seven innings.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Ontario Baseball
Association U15 championship, Labour Day weekend in Tillsonburg
