Guelph edges Dorchester, 4-3, in OT in provincial ringette final

MARKHAM, Ont. - The Dorchester U12A Dragons are bringing home a silver medal.
Claire Cartile's game winning goal in overtime gave the Guelph Predators a 4-3 edging of Dorchester in the U12A final, Sunday , at the Ringette Ontario provincial championships, March 28-31.
Laine Robinson, with two goals and Claire Heath scored for the Dragons.
"The final was hard fought game and we ended up coming short in OT. Our goalie Aubrey Forrester played outstanding," Dorchester head coach Ian McDonald said. "The big thing that stood out was beating Richmond Hill in the semi finals, who had beat us 6-2 the night before in round robin play. The girls came back determined and played hard."
In the semifinals, Dorchester prevailed with a 5-4 victory, led by a pair of goals by Robinson and the game winning goal and an assist from Quinn Stier. Anya Kucharski and
Ava McDonald, also scored, while Quinn McDonald picked up two assists.
The Dragons trailed 2-1 and 4-2, but turned the game in their favour over the final six minutes of period two. Robinson's goal tied the game, before Stier potted the winner with 38 seconds remaining.
Dorchester opened the four day tournament defeating the Sault Ste Marie Ice Hawks, 5-3, coming back from a 3-1 deficit, in game one of pool play. Quinn McDonald scored twice for Dorchester, while Robinson and Stier, both had a goal and two assists. Avery Czupryna had a goal and one assist.
Robinson buried four rings in Dorchester's 6-2 defeat of the Etobicoke Stingers. Quinn McDonald and Tava Aldridge both scored, while Stier, picked up two assists.
Frankie Cupello had the game winning goal as the Dragons squeaked by the Forest Xtreme, 3-2. Steir and Anya Kucharski, also scored, while Ava McDonald drew a pair of assists.
The Dragons jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Nepean Ravens, but had to hang on for a 5-4 victory, on a goal by Kucharski, one of her two goals. Stier had a pair of goals, Quinn McDonald, one goal and Robinson, three helpers.
In their final pool game, Richmond Hill handed Dorchester their only loss of the tournament, 6-2, with Cupello and Aldridge netting pucks.
Guelph and Dorchester were pool winners with 4-1-0 pool records. Richmond Hill was 3-0-2 in pool action and edged the Ottawa Ice, 7-5, in the bronze medal game.
Robinson led the Dragons with nine goals and seven assists. Stier had five goals and seven assists and Quinn McDonald, four goals and two assists.
"The season was
extremely successful and the girls were a close knit group," said coach
McDonald. "We were very strong defensively. We made it to the finals in all four
tournaments we played in and came up with one gold medal and three silvers."
