Woodstock St. Mary's edges Dorchester Red in ringette tourney final

TILLSONBURG, Ont - It was a fun yet competitive tournament to conclude the ringette and high school winter sports seasons.
Woodstock St. Mary's Warriors went undefeated, going 5-0, to capture the eight team Gemini Classic, edging Dorchester Beavers Red, 2-1, in the final, April 6, at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.
Most teams had a number of hockey players trying ringette for the day.
Dorchester had two teams at the tournament, that also included the East Elgin Eagles, host Glendale Gemini and schools as far away as Niagara Falls, Mitchell and Goderich.
Gwen Beattie, from Sydney Smith, scored for Dorchester. Adrianna H-B scored both St. Mary's goals.
Dorchester Red went 3-2 overall, going 2-1 in pool play, before unending host Gemini, 4-3, in the semifinals. Cali Beattie with a hat trick and Megan Webster with the game winner scored for the Beavers. Amber Crinklaw picked up two assists, including on the winner.
St Mary's edged the East Elgin Eagles, 5-4, in their semifinal, with Emily McCurdy, Payton Blight, Alia Linton, Raella Brockhagen and Jill Sterkenburg scoring.
Mya Farr with two goals and Emily Ratter and Avery O'Brien, each with a goal and one assist, scored for the Eagles.
Dorchester Red's both losses were to St. Mary's. The teams opened the tournament with a 3-1 game in favour of St. Mary's. Nicola Hammond had the Beavers' lone goal.
Keely Van Horne and Cali Beattie scored in 2-0 blanking of Goderich, with goalie Autumn Posynick having the shutout.
Cali Beattie potted two goals and Gwen Beattie and Amber Crinklaw, each had one as Beavers Red dumped Mitchell, 5-3.
East Elgin finished 2-1 in pool play, defeating Myer, 8-3, and Dorchester Beavers Gold, 6-5, and losing Glendale, 4-3.
Maddy MacKay, Taylor Palmer and Dana Crinklaw, each scored twice against Myer, while Kaleigh Handley and Mya Farr had a goal each. Crinklaw netted a hat trick against Dorchester Gold and Shelby Laidlaw, Avery O'Brien and Mackay, with the game winner, had singles.
Crinklaw, Isabel Suffel and Maya McPherson, netted pucks against Glendale.
Dorchester Gold finished 1-2, defeating Myer, but falling to East Elgin and Glendale.
Lauren Lindsay and Sydney Champion, with two goals each, Sydney McMichael, Zoe Maddox and Baylie Smith, scored against Myer. Lindsay with a hat trick and Champion buried pucks versus the Eagles and Lindsay, Smith, Allie Humphries and Morgan Czupryna, against Glendale.
