LONDON, ON. - Madison Telford will be teeing off at OFSAA again.
The Parkside Stampeder had a round of 88, the third lowest round, at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (WOSSAA) girls' golf championship, during rainy and windy conditions, at Westminster Trails.
Telford qualifies for OFSAA, the provincial high school championship, for the fourth time in her career.
"It was actually a good day. I'm impressed how well I did despite the conditions," said Telford, who has qualified for the high school provincial tournament, each of her four years at PCI. "The wind was brutal. I actually managed to use it to my strengths on most of the holes. The rain sucked. It held up for few holes and we managed to get dry. Then it rained steadily."
Telford did use the wind to her advantage.
"I have a tendency to go to the left and but the wind kind of pushed everything back into the middle," explained Telford. "My drives I managed to keep straight and I've working on getting more height with my clubs. I managed to keep everything close to the fairways."
Telford's WOSSAA score was one shot lower than her round at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics championship, a week earlier, at Westminster Trails.
Madeline Choi, of Woodstock Collegiate, is the WOSSAA champion, with an impressive score of 80. Cindy Won, from London Lucas, carded an 85, to finish second.
"They were good competition to play with," said Telford. "I played with Cindy during the summer and I know Madeline is a very good player and it really helps playing with people who I can compete with."
The OFSAA girls' golf festival is at the Ambassador Golf Club, in Windsor, October 10-11.
"This year I know I have coaches and my dad can come with me. I'm feeling good about my game, so I'm hoping to do well."
This is Telford's fourth time qualifying for OFSAA and third time attending. Her Grade 10 year is her best result. Telford missed last year's event. In Grade nine, Telford qualified with friend Kaley Trollman.
Six golfers from WOSSAA qualified for OFSAA which features two divisions, open and high school. Telford and Won, are both in the high school division, along with Shreya Dalal, of London Lucas and Arva Medway's Gabby Harrison.
Choi and Julia Davis, out of London Central, will be in the open division.
London Lucas won the A flight team title, with Won, Dalal, Helena Woodburn and Deanna Langille.
Caitlin Moss, of WCI, is the WOSSAA B flight champion, winning with a nine-hole total of 55. Jordan Gallant, of London Laurier was a shot behind at 56.
Parkside Stampeder Kenzie Laskin, finished tied in third spot carding a 57, along with London South's Grace Osadca. Parkside's Meghan Hepburn was fourth (58), while St. Joseph's Maddie Lampman tied for seventh (63).
London South is the B flight team champion. St. Joe's (Lampman, Bailey Trottier, Ally Kelly) placed second.
Next year, the Pine Knot Golf and Country Club, in Dorchester, will host the OFSAA girls' golf festival.
