DORCHESTER - The Dorchester Diamondbacks' run was held up by the Saugeen River Bandits, losing 15-13, at the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) major mosquito C championship.
The D-Backs finish at 2-2.
Dorchester opened the 12-team double knockout tournament with a 15-0 loss to Listowel, before winning one run games over both Essex and Amherstburg.
“What impressed me the most was obviously putting a sub standard product on the diamond Friday night, but coming back and playing fantastic baseball all day Saturday. That showed some character,” Dorchester coach Mark Stevens said. “Essex was the third seed in the tournament and we booted them out.”
Dropping their opening game was a tough one for the Diamondbacks.
“(Listowel) simply hit the ball where we weren’t,” Stevens said. “We made a bunch of errors that aren’t characteristic of our team, but I have to give (Listowel) credit, they really hit the ball well. Our bats didn’t get going against their starter.”
The Aylmer Pirates, the second local team, were 0-2, losing to Saugeen and Amherstburg.
Saugeen, Ingersoll and Beamsville, each with one loss and the undefeated Mitchell Astros, are the four teams seeing action on Sunday.
