LONDON, ON. - Madison Telford is aiming to be teeing off at OFSAA.
The Grade 12 student at Parkside Collegiate took the first step with a round of 89 in the A flight (18 holes), at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County girls' golf championships, at Westminster Trails.
Telford tied Madeline Choi, from Woodstock Collegiate, for low score in the Tri-County Division.
"I had a few tough holes but I had a lot of good holes. It was a fun day," said Telford. "My drives haven't been that great this summer, but today they really pulled through and my putting wasn't that bad either.
I've been working on my swing a lot, so a couple of them (drives) had a little trouble with my swing that just pushed the ball the wrong way into the fescue, the rough area."
In the first A flight foursome to tee-off, Telford had to wait following her round for her final placement.
(final individual and team results yet to be posted)
Next up for Telford is the WOSSAA tournament, September 23rd, back at Westminster Trails. This event is a qualifier for OFSAA, October 10-11, in Windsor.
"That's my goal," said Telford, who feels at WOSSAA, she needs to be, "in the eighties at least. I have to keep up the good work."
Telford finished fifth last year at WOSSAA, with a 93.
Over the summer, Telford competed on the Tyson Tour, finishing third overall in the girls' division, behind winner Jillian Friyia and runner-up Kyle Grogan.
"It's a lot of fun," said Telford. "I really enjoyed playing with all of the girls. They're good competition and that keeps my game going good."

Telford won at Ingersoll and Highland and placed third at both Greenhills and Sawmill Creek. The year end championship at Sunningdale didn't go her way.
"It was a bit of a rough day. My game kind of fell apart at the wrong time but I did actually really well throughout the summer. I was happy about that."
Telford was the lone competitor representing Elgin County schools in A flight. The PCI team had two golfers in B flight, which consists of a round of nine holes.
Kenzie Laskin finished second carding a 57, one shot behind B flight champion Caitlin Moss, of Woodstock Collegiate.
"It was ok. I feel I could have done better," said Laskin. "I feel I had some shots that I didn't hit that good, but my short game was bad. My drives were long so that held my game together. My putting needs improvement. That's where I lost all of my strokes."
The grade 12 student had no expectations coming into the tournament.
"I just wanted to have fun. I haven't played on the golf team before. This is my first year. I just came to represent Parkside."
Parkside's Meghan Hepburn was fourth, with a 62, behind Strathroy Holy Cross' Levi Ferreira, who shot a 59.
"I was really nervous coming in about my drives, but they went really well. I stayed out of the fescue, so that was good," said Hepburn, a Grade 11 student. "I definitely could have improved on my putting. Drives went really well though."
St. Joseph's Maddie Lampman carded a 70, good for sixth place.
Holy Cross, with Ferreira, Reagan Sanders and Kali Azevedo, won the B flight team title.
