Two St. Thomas Panthers teams win gold at own tournament

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Panthers captured two gold medals at their Big Cat Showdown.
The three day six division tournament, one of the first events of the 2023-24 girls hockey season, featured 28 teams, from as far away as Whitby, Clarington and Collingwood.
St. Thomas won the U11BB and U18A divisions and took silver in U15B.
Harper Kee, Harleigh Jones and Alexandra MacMillian, scored for the U11BB Panthers, in a 3-1 win over South Huron in the final, completing a 5-0 run over the weekend.
Allie Brown and Payton Lessard potted goals, while goalie Ava Woolsey stopped all shots, in the U18A Panthers 2-0 shutout of Clarington.
Collingwood brought home two division titles, U15B and U18BB. Ancaster (U13B) and Lucan (U13A), also won gold.
The U15B Panthers took silver, losing to Collingwood in the final, 3-1. Kaydence Thibert scored the lone Panther's goal. In the semifinals, Deanna Lale had two goals, as the Panthers defeated Flamborough, 5-3. Shyla Toonen and Emme Steen, both had a goal one assist. Jane Hewitt also scored, while Thibert, Payton Elderd and Scarlett Wilson, picked up assists.
In December the club hosts the Panthers on the Prowl tournament.
