DORCHESTER, Ont. - The Dorchester Dolphins may not have had a full bench but the Small and Short of it is the team showed its depth.

Despite having only 15 skaters to face both the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs and Lucan Irish, the Dolphins came out with a pair of one goal victories this weekend, improving to 3-1-0-0, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Noah Small scored two goals including the game winner with just over three minutes remaining in the third period, lifting the Dolphins over the Bulldogs, 4-3, Sunday, at the Flight Exec Centre.

Josh Short broke a 1-1 tie with his third goal of the season.

Two days earlier at home on Friday, Short came up huge netting the winner in the third period, to carry the Dolphins pass the Irish, 3-2.

"The rust is starting to come off after such a long lay off. Everyone is getting more comfortable within the system," said Small.

Following a season opening loss to North Middlesex, Dorchester has won three games in a row.

"We getting the system going and putting the systems to work," said Dolphins' goalie Jackson Mailoux, who picked up the win in both games. "We're getting plays going that we want to do and putting the pieces together."

Mailloux made 50 saves against the Bulldogs.

Dorchester led 3-1 after two periods, on goals by Small, Short and Bryce Darville. The Bulldogs charged back to tie, striking twice in the first two and half minutes of the third period.

"We stayed focused, but we were trying to play too defensive. We were trying to be too safe. We were flat footed," Dolphins' head coach Mark Steele said. "We had a great start but lost our legs a little bit in the second. In the third they (Mt. Brydges) came out flying to tie it. But that's a good team builder to come back to get one late to win that game."

Rookie forward Gordon Kean picked up his fifth and sixth assists of the season. Nicholas Shearer assisted on both Small goals, his line-mate along with Isaac Sturgeon.

Due to injuries and suspensions, the Dolphins had just 10 forwards including AP Ben Weejes, along with five defenceman.

Against the Bulldogs, the Dolphins were without their captain Braidon Duncan and forward Jakob Marche, who has two goals and two assists in three games.

"We were scrounging but we made it work," Steele said. "We'll take this one against Mt Brydges. They're a good team. That's their first loss. This was a big one. It shows our depth."

Joe Capirchio, Thomas Guidolin and Ryan Jonsson scored for the Bulldogs.

Mt. Brydges (5-1-0-0) leads the Yeck Division with 10 points, followed by North Middlesex (3-1-1-0), Dorchester (3-1-0-0) and Lucan (2-2-2-0). Thamesford (1-3-0-0) sits sixth.

Against Lucan, Short, Sturgeon and Shearer, potted goals.

The Dolphins travel to Thamesford, Friday, October 22 and visit Parkhill, to take on North Middlesex, Saturday, October 23.
