ST. THOMAS - Size and speed kills, and the St. Thomas Jr. Stars have plenty to take care of business.

AJ Power had a pair of goals and one assist, as St. Thomas dumped the Quinte West Hawks, 6-2, in the atom final, of the St. Thomas Minor Hockey Association major tournament, at the Timken Centre.

Owen Lawrence, Mathew Zylstra, Kaleb Levesque and Sam Taylor, also scored for the Jr. Stars.

"A good team effort. Everyone came to play," St. Thomas head coach Andrew Power said. "The turning point was killing off two 5-on-3's."

Leading 4-1, in the third period, the Jr. Stars picked up a double minor penalty, but never allowed a goal. Two minutes later, Quite West had another two man advantage, this time scoring once.

The Jr. Stars put the game out of reach with a pair of empty net goals in the last 90 seconds of the third period.

Replying for the Hawks were Holden Webster and Trevor Brooks.

Power added the team's strength is speed and size throughout the line-up. The team emphasises skill on the blades. At each practice, 25 minutes is dedicated to power skating.

St. Thomas went 4-0 in pool play, outscoring their opponents, 28-3. Quinte West dominated their pool, allowing no goals in four wins.

The Jr. Stars atom team is now 10-0 in tournament play, winning at Ajax earlier this month.

Two other St. Thomas teams made the semi-finals in their respective divisions. The bantam Stars, lost to the London Mustangs White, 6-4, while the midget Stars fell to the Sarnia Sting, 5-2.
