ST. THOMAS - Not even foggy conditions could prevent the Parkside Stampders from another dominating victory.
Quarterback Drew Foster tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Rowan Jones, while Austin Day ran in to the end zone twice, as the Stampeders blanked the London Beal Raiders, 28-0, in Thames Vallley Regional Athletics (TVRA) senior football, at Parkside CI.
Improving to 3-0, the Stampeders share top spot with the London Lucas Vikings (3-0-1), in the TVRA Walzak division standings. The Vikings visit Parkside, October 20.
"Starting off at 3-0 is setting us off on the right track and hopefully we can continue," said Foster. "This year the big difference is our coaching. They set us up in the best possible way to win. They brought a whole new aspect of football to our team. Last year, we were a run heavy team. This year, we pass the ball 30-40 times a game and I don't think defences can handle it."
In each of the Parkside’s wins, two on home field, they took it to their opponent right away in the first half.
"We come out beyond pumped because we love football. In the first quarter it shows, because we love being on the field and scoring touchdowns," said Foster, in his second season as the Stampeder pivot. "Playing in front of a home crowd is always nice, knowing you have all of your friends, family and all of that support behind you."
Foster hit Jones, for a 33-yard TD pass, giving Parkside a 7-0 lead, after the single point convert.
Day carried the ball five yards into the house, helping double the Stampeders’ lead, in the second quarter. Four minutes later, Foster connected with Jones again, this time for a monster 48-yard pass play.
Parkside led 21-0, at half-time.
Day ripped off a 77-yard TD run, in the fourth quarter.
"The first bit of the season has been good. It has been a great place to start," Parkside head coach Jason Congdon said. "We do still have things to work on. We want to maximize our ability and we haven’t done that yet. We still make mistakes. We're young at some of the critical spots. It's a focus issue, some dropped balls in there."
A mid-season test will be against Lucas. Last season, Parkside lost at Lucas, 7-5.
Parkside's junior team, the Colts, improved to 2-1, defeating Beal, 42-12.
The Colts wasted no time galloping to a 42-6 lead, by half-time.
Leading 7-6, the Colts exploded with their ground game, scoring majors on TD runs, by Zach Copeland, Camerin Zimmer, Brayden Gagnier, Nathan Uytterlinde and Noah Asher.
Beal doubled their output, with 10 seconds left, in the fourth quarter.
Parkside’s defence
also shined, forcing four fumbles and an
interception by Keegan Spiering.
