ST. THOMAS - No better time to have a game of the season, then the playoff opener.
Faith DeVries scored a game high nine points, while Sherah Kuipers was a rebound monster, with 15, to lead the Central Elgin Titans over the Parkside Stampeders, 31-21, in a Thames Valley Region Association (TVRA) South-East junior girls' basketball quarter-final, at Parkside CI.
"It was definitely the girls' best game the season. It's the playoffs, so that's what you want," Titans coach Shannon Swift said. "This is so nice, so good for them."
The Titans took a 16-14 lead, just before half-time and led 20-16 after three quarters. A 6-0 run, built a 28-18 lead, in the fourth quarter.
"We shot better (then during the regular season) and our intensity was huge tonight," added Swift. "We out rebounded them huge. Sherah is our crazy rebounder. She had 15 rebounds."
Sherah Kuiper chipped in five points, along with those boards. Kiki Wilson had eight points, including a pair of key three-pointers in the second half. Tori Baker added six points.
Sammy Kennedy led Parkside with eight points.
The Titans, with a roster full of grade nine players, except for one, were 3-8 during the season, while the Stampeders had a 5-6 record. Both teams finished behind the 8-3 East Elgin Eagles.
Both South-East junior semi-finals are Tuesday, November 7, at Woodstock College Avenue. The Titans face Woodstock Huron Park, while the Eagles take on the host Knights.
