ST. THOMAS -
The
St. Thomas Express Dynamite Under-15 girls' team has started the 2018-19 season
golden.
St. Thomas won their first
Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) tournament of the schedule, the Provincial
Cup Trillium White, at Chatham, on November 3rd.
The Express Dynamite
defeated Twin Bridges Thunder, 25-20, 25-21, in the final, overcoming two hand
injuries along the way.
St. Thomas won their pool,
before upending the London Sharks Great Whites, in the semifinals, 16-25, 26-24,
15-5.
"Our highlights were our
aggressive serving and communication," Express Dynamite coach Laura Reid said.
The girls' effort and positive attitude were rewarded not only with a gold medal
but also with movement up a level to the championship division in the OVA."
Preseason OVA rankings had
St. Thomas at number 71 out of 131 teams in the province. The tournament win
shot the Express Dynamite to number 47.
The Express Dynamite
followed up the tournament with a 3-1 match record, at Supreme Sunday, on
November 11th, in London. St. Thomas defeated London Sharks Hammerheads, 3-0,
Great White Sharks, 2-1 and Scorpions, 2-1. Forest City edged St. Thomas, 2-1.
Supreme Sundays, hosted by
Forest City volleyball club, are matches focusing on skill building and gaining
game experience against a variety of teams.
The Express Dynamite will be
participating in the Canadian Volleyball U15 championships, in Edmonton, May
9-12th, 2019.
