DORCHESTER - The final came down to next score wins in overtime, and Strathroy Saints White edged the host Beavers, 5-4, at the Lord Dorchester Beavers' ultimate frisbee tournament, at the high school.

Tied at three, following 30 minutes of regulation play, both teams scored a point in overtime, before sudden death was instituted.

Both the Saints and East Elgin Eagles had two teams compete in the tournament, while London Central completed the six team field.

The Ontario Western Region championships, are June 5, at Strathroy. LDSS, now in its fifth year having a team, placed third a year ago at the event.

A quick look at Ultimate

Around since 1968, Ultimate is unlike most sports due to its self-officiating, placing the responsibility of fair play on the players themselves.

Two teams of seven players of mixed gender, play on a rectangular pitch, usually 64 by 37 metres. Endzones, 18 by 37 metres, are the goal scoring areas at both ends of the pitch. The beach and indoor version of the sport goes with five players per side.

A goal is scored when a team completes a pass to a player standing, or running, in their offensive endzone.

Players can not run with the disc. When a player receives the disc, the player must stop and try to throw it to another teammate. The player has 10 seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower counts down. By passing player to player, the offence attempts to advance the disc towards the endzone they are attacking.

If the disc hits the ground, is intercepted or knocked down by an opposing player, the opposition takes possession.

Rain, wind, sunlight in one's eyes, add to the challenge of the game.
