Piekny, Kana, Atkinson set new marks, Urquhart leads Dorchester at Track Wars

LONDON, Ont. - Several athletes set meet records at the Titan-Bronco Prep Invitational track and field meet, May 2 at Western University.
Matt Piekny, of St. Joe's, added five centimetres to his own meet record set last year, winning senior boys pole vault clearing 4.15 metres. Piekny also finished fourth in the 110m hurdles (15.94 sec.).
Taylor Kana, of the East Elgin Eagles, won senior girls javelin, with a meet record toss of 43.18 metres.
Ethan Atkinson, of St. Joe's, won novice boys high jump, leaping 1.70 metres for a new meet mark.
Alyssa Gordon, Parkside Stampeders, was one of three athletes to eclipse the meet record of 1.51 metres, placing third in senior girls high jump with a best effort of 1.55 metres. Gordon placed ninth in the 200m (27.27 sec.). Laura Van Nes, Clinton St. Anne's, won the event clearing 1.67 metres, with Caralee Schipper of Strathroy District, placing second making 1.60 metres.
Lexi Stanat, Parkside, placed second in senior women's discus (37.94m), behind the meet record throw of 58.13 metres from Julia Tunks of London Oakridge.
Libby McCurdy, St. Joe's tied for top height of 3.40 metres in senior women's pole vault, but on the tie-breaker, took second place to Sophia Bryenton of London Oakridge.
Aiden Ward, Parksde, won the junior boys 100-metre hurdles in 14.69 seconds, and placed eighth, in the 200 metre dash (24.61 sec.).
David Anderson, St. Joe's, placed second in senior boys shot put (12.73m), one
of five throwers to eclipse the meet record of 12.37 metres.

toss of 12.67 metres by Jenna Tunks of London Oakridge; Shawn Okorhi, fifth,

Track wars
Andrew Urquhart led the Dorchester Beavers, winning junior boys shot put and placing second in discus, at Track Wars, May 2, at Hespeler Secondary school in Cambridge.
Urquhart increased his school record in discus by 32 centimetres, throwing 43.52 metres, while his heave of 16.40 metres was just under his school record of 16.86 metres.
Including Urquhart, the Beavers had 16 athletes with top 10 results.
