DORCHESTER - Dorchester Dolphins' head coach Tim Flynn is looking to his team to seize the opportunity. That includes coming to play for the entire 60 minute game.
The Dolphins trail the Lambeth Lancers two games to none, in the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Yeck Division final, after a Lancers' 5-2 win, at the Flight Exec Centre.
"It's one of those nights when they (Lancers) got the breaks and their goalie (Zack Weir) played well. Browny (Riley Brown) played well too," Flynn said. "Every time we made a mistake they capitalized. The breakaway goal, our guy missed the puck. Two on one, our D-man made a good play, but the puck went off him into the net."
Those goals, by Brock Trichilo and Mitchell Jenner, put Lambeth ahead, 2-0.
For the game, the Dolphins held the edge in shots, 46-27, but the Lancers made the most of their scoring opportunities.
Carson Esipu scored twice, his 11th and 12th of the playoffs, his first of the game made it 4-1 Lambeth early third period, while his second, into an empty net, finished the Dolphins. Andrew Chambers also tallied for Lambeth.
Lucas Wilson, with his 10th goal of the playoffs, and James Newland, both on the power play, scored for Dorchester. Newland also assisted on the Wilson goal.
"Two biggest things are they're going to the net. We've had a problem with that all year. We don't go to the net well. We have to create traffic and opportunities. We have to create opportunities and keep our effort going," Flynn said. "The other thing is that we have to want it. They want it.
"We need all 20 bodies going. We have to grab the moment. That was my speech after the game. This is an opportunity. We have to go for it. You have to come and play every shift and give me 60 minutes."
It is not an easy challenge, down two games with game three in Lambeth, where the Lancers were 17-3-0-0, during the regular season.
Perhaps the Dolphins will follow the lead of Lucas Wilson, who has been a force with his passionate play, not only in game two, but throughout the playoffs.
"He knows it’s do or die and he wants to win," said Flynn.
Wilson leads all Yeck division scorers with 21 points.
