Rams heading to OFSAA boys hockey

SEAFORTH, Ont. - The St. Joseph's Rams are heading to OFSAA boys hockey.

Adam Derganc had a goal and an assist, while goalie Callum Besley picked up the shutout as the Rams blanked Tillsonburg Glendale, 3-0, in the WOSSAA AA boys hockey gold medal game.

Matthew Zylstra and Matthew Masschaele also scored, in the game that sends the Rams to OFSAA, the high school provincial championship, March 19-21 in the Oshawa-Whitby area.

In the semifinals, a 6-2 win over Central Huron, Zylstra had a five point game with a hat trick and two assists.

Sam Taylor had a goal and two assists, while Rhys Smart and Owen Lawrence, potted a goal each. Dawson Watson, Donovan Appleford, Charlie Shore and Nic Glanville, each picked up one assist.

During the TVRA South-East regular season St. Joe's went 8-1-0, before defeating shutting out Woodstock CI in the quarterfinals. Then the Rams swept Parkside in a two game semifinal, 5-1 and 4-1. In the South-East final, the Rams shelled Glendale, 9-1.

The Rams are seeded eighth at OFSAA and play two games on day one, Tuesday, March 19, against Orillia Patrick Fogarty and Petrolia Lambton Central. Day two the Rams face two-seeded Sudbury St. Charles, followed by hopefully a quarterfinal. The top two teams from each of the four divisions see quarterfinal action.

Defending A/AA champ and host Holy Trinity from Courtice is seed one.
