BARRIE, Ont. - The St. Thomas Reds U14 girls
soccer team, brought home a silver medal, from the annual Barrie Spiritfest tournament, this past
weekend.
The Reds' tournament highlight, was winning a
thrilling semifinal, 1-0, in a shootout, over Soo City.
Keeper Mackenzie Lazenby made two diving saves,
giving left footer Allie Rickwood, the opportunity to win the game.
"The penalty shootout put the girls' skill and
mental fortitude to the test," St. Thomas assistant coach Karen Lawrence said.
Lazenby had three shutouts as the Reds went
undefeated in pool play, at 3-0-0, averaging two plus goals, per
game.
St. Thomas lost to Woodbridge in the final, 3-0.
The Reds are currently undefeated in first place,
U14 girls division, n the Elgin Middlesex Soccer League.
