ST. THOMAS - It was a good opening day for the two local teams.

Host St. Joseph's Rams and WOSSAA champion Dorchester Beavers, are among six teams that won both games today on day one of OFSAA AA girls soccer.

Kylie Todd with three goals, Coral Beecroft, Ruby Steen, Allie Rickwood, Avery Dowson and Sara Gonzalez scored in a 8-0 shutout of Timmins Theriault.

Todd and Gonzlez had three goals each in a 9-0 silencing of Sudbury Alexander Carter. Dowson, Abi Faris and Dani Kidderr, had one goal each.

"We came out strong, which is what needed. We've gained a lot of confidence after the two wins," said co-captain Avery Dowson. "We came together as a team and we all have each other's backs. We're all supportive and believe in each other."

Keeper Katie Ostrander had both shutouts.

On day two, the Rams play the Whitby Anderson Raiders, at 8 a.m. and Tecumseh Vista Vortx. One win will advance St. Joe's to the quarterfinals, at 5:15 p.m. at Athletic Park.

"We have to come out strong, come out fighting. It's going to be early, but it's early for both teams," said Dowson.

Julia Ritchie netted two goals leading the Beavers over Toronto Crestwood Prep, 4-0. Bella Nolte and Jenna Couch also scored.

Ritchie and Megan McLachlin potted goals in a 2-0 blanking of Fort Francis.

Goalie Makenna Brown put up both shutouts.

"Our first game was better than our second game. We struggled a bit in the first half this game, just finishing and connecting," Bella Nolte said. "We weren't playing our game. We could tell we were the better team, but we needed to bury those chances. Thankfully we did at the end of the second half."

Dorchester has St. Mary's College from Sault Ste. Marie and Barrie Joan of Arc on day two.

Also 2-0, Oakville Blakelock, the defending champs, Bradford Holy Trinity, the 2022 champ, St. Mary's College, silver medalists a year ago and Anderson CVI.

Quarterfinal winners move on to the semifinals, Saturday at 9 a.m.
