LONDON, Ont. - The Kettle Creek Captains are Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary school Valley boys slo-pitch champions.

Kettle Creek, from Port Stanley, defeated London Stoney Creek, 10-2, in the final June 10.

London Westmount got by the South Dorchester Stampeders, 14-11, in the bronze medal game.

On the girls side, Kensal Park took gold, downing Orchard Park, 19-9, in the final.

The Locke's Lions took the bronze medal, edging South Dorchester, 9-8.

In the consolation game, Northdale Central from Dorchester dropped Stoneybrook, 14-9.

 

 

Valley track field

Nineteen athletes from the hometownplay area won gold, three setting meet records, at the Valley track and field championships, June 3 at Western University.

Northdale Central in Dorchester had five event champions.

Southwold's Brooke Gustavson won two middle distance races, the junior girls 800 and 1500 metres.

John Wise's Xavier Sauer won senior boys long jump and the 100-metre sprints

Sauer set a new mark winning senior boys long jump with leap of 5.23 metres. Sauer was the only competitor over five metres, while breaking North Meadows Devonte Ballantyne's record of 5.15 metres set in 2013.

Elgin Court's Easton Wilkinson showed his arm, winning senior boys softball throw with a meet record 72.12 metre toss. The ball sailed by the former best throw of 70.92m, by Will Kitching, from Stoneybrook in 2015.

Xavier Looper from PE Trudeau, took the intermediate boys triple jump record with a record hop, skip and jump, of 9.83 metres. Looper's mark edges out the former best measurement of 9.80m, by Jeff Mitchell of Pearson in 2003.

Six wrestlers from St. Thomas-Elgin County schools won medals at the Valley championships.

Lily Anderson, from Kettle Creek, took silver in the girls 41-45 kilogram division.
