   Stanat, Francis, Belanger brothers win gold, at Great Lakes meet two

   as St. Thomas Legion athletes produce 21 top 10 results

WOODSTOCK, ON. -  Arthur Stanat, Lily Francis and the Belanger brothers led St. Thomas Legion, at the Great Lakes League track and field meet two, at College Avenue secondary school.

Stanat won the midget boys’ discus (43.85 metres) and hammer throw (34.71m) and placed second, in shot put (14.17m).

Dylen Belanger won the midget boys’ 100-metre hurdles in 14.89 seconds, while his brother, Harrison, won the open men’s 2000 metres, in 6:53.9. Harrison was also fifth, in the open men’s 800 metres (2:14.03).

Francis won the midget girls’ 80-metre hurdles (13.17 seconds).

St. Thomas had 14 athletes finish in the top 10.

The meet was a good prep for the Athletics Ontario outdoor U14, U16, U16 championships, in Windsor, this weekend.

Jared Parkin placed second, in youth boys’ shot put (13.18 metres), discus (40.63m) and hammer (32.18m). Matthew Bryce, of Sarnia, won all three events.

Tanner Smyth finished second in the junior men’s 110-metre hurdles (15.81 sec.) and third, in the open men’s high jump (1.75 metres).

Clairesse Coffey landed second, in midget girl’s long jump (4.14 metres).

Anij Sparenberg was third in both the youth women’s shot put (10.67 metres) and discus (28.94m).

Joshua McCandless placed third in midget boys’ high jump (1.55 metres)

Olivia Krahn finished fourth, in the open women’s 200 metre sprint (27.43 sec.), followed by Camryn Roth, in 10th place (28.53 sec.).

Michael Roth was fourth, in the open men’s 200 metres (23.69 sec.)

Hayden Bell finished fourth, in the junior men’s 110-metre hurdles (18.64 sec.) and sixth, in the open men’s pole vault (2.60 metres).

 

LUNA top four in three events

Jadyn Luna, who is from Thorndale and trains with London Legion, won the midget girl’s long jump (4.51 metres), finished second in the midget girls’ 80-metre hurdles (13.64 sec.) and fourth, in the open women’s 800 metre race (2:53.56).
