Dixie comes back to edge St. Thomas 2-1, in semifinals at Soccerfest

ST. THOMAS - Penalty kicks denied the St. Thomas Reds a spot in the U14 final at Boys Soccerfest.
Dixie took the U14 semifinal, 2-1, winning kicks, 5-4, Sunday at Athletic Park. Dixie, from Mississauga, went on to edge the LaSalle Stompers, 2-1, in the final.
The U14 Reds were the only one of three St. Thomas teams to advance from the quarterfinals Sunday morning.
LS Croatia blanked the U13 Reds, 4-0, while Brantford City edged the U15 Reds, 5-4.
The two day Soccerfest tournament, hosted by St. Thomas Soccer Club, featured 37 teams from across southern Ontario, in five divisions from U13 to U18, played at Athletic and Cowan parks.
Division champs were Woodstock in U18, Windsor Caboto in U16/17, Flamborough-Dundas (FDSC) in U15, Dixie in U14 and Niagara in U13.
On day one, the U13, U14 and U15 St Thomas Reds each won two games, to clinch spots in the quarterfinals.
The U14 Reds finished first in their pool with two wins and a tie.
Graham Littlejohn and Nabeel Carder scored, while keeper Layne Stirling had the shutout in a 2-0 win over Caboto.
Denys Kravtsiv scored in a 1-1 tie with LaSalle.
Stirling picked up a second shutout and scored on a penalty kick in a 4-0 victory against Dixie. Littlejohn, Kravtsiv, Ronan Davidson, also hit mesh.
The U15 Reds had two wins and a loss in pool play.
Maverick Okkerse had a goal and assist on Nolan Prescott's goals, as the Reds edged Southend United. Hudson Rose had one assist against Southend and assisted on goals by Okkerse and Trytin McLellan, in a 2-0 silencing of Condor. Keeper Philipp Beecroft posted the shutout.
Girls Soccerfest is July 27-28.
