DORCHESTER - Dylan Buckholz showed why he was selected to the Yeck Division all-star team at centre.

The Dorchester Dolphin had three goals and three assists, in a 7-1 win over the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs, in Provincial Junior Hockey League action.

Line-mate Ryan Root also netted a hat trick and picked up two assists.

"I'm just surprised. I wasn't expecting for this year to go as well as it did," said Buckholz, on his all-star nod. "My line-mates Rooter and (Brent) House are a big part of it. They're always helping me. They find me on the ice wherever I am. The chemistry is really good.

"We're always ready to bounce back if we get scored on. We've been kept together for most of the year and it's been working really well. I've played with Root before, but House came in and it was a perfect fit for us."

The trio combined for 13 points against the Bulldogs.

"Their line was the difference tonight," Dolphins' GM and head coach Tim Flynn said. "When they are playing both ends of the rink the other guys look up to them and start playing both ends of the rink. Three offensive guys, but they did a real good job (defensively) tonight."

Mt. Brydges' Alex Cox opened the scoring five minutes into the game, before Root and Ryan Poley put the Dolphins up 2-1 before the first intermission.

"After the first period, (assistant coach Jason) Ross talked us up and made sure we were ready to go for the second and the boys just clicked together," said Newland. "We came out too flat (in the first)."

Dorchester led 5-1 before the mid point of the second period. Root and Buckholz completed their hat tricks in the third period.

Newland leads all Yeck defenceman with 18 goals, including five winners and 31 points. Newland played the past two seasons with the St. Thomas Stars, in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).

"It's nice to get the recognition. Obviously an honour," said Newland, on being an all-star. "I credit the people I play with. I worked hard, but they make me the player I am."

Buckholz says Newland's shot gets a player's attention.

"He has a rocket from the point and he has some wheels on him. He can really skate," Buckholz said.

Newland describes 'Bucky' as 'a little Patrick Kane'. "He's so creative out there. He's making moves that no one ever tries."

Rounding out the PJHL Yeck Division all-star team are: goalie Brock MacDonald (Lambeth), left winger Brock Trichilo (Lambeth), right winger Christian Petrozza (Exeter) and defenceman Jake Alkins (North Middlesex)

Petrozza is the league MVP, while North Middlesex Star Sam Baker is the rookie of the year.

Prior to the deadline, the Dolphins signed 19 year old Andrew Bugeja, a six foot defenceman from Oakville, who played 20 games with the GOJHL's Strathroy Rockets, earlier this season.

Bugeja and current Dolphin Mike Tuffin were teammates with the London Lakers, of the Greater Metro Hockey League last season.

"He's very skilled. He moves the puck well. I like his shot. He shoots the puck hard and low," Flynn said. "He asks a lot of questions. Even between periods he's asking questions.

"I like our D now. We got (Nick) Whitworth, Newland, (Colin) Osler and now Andrew. They're four solid D who can log a lot of minutes."

Jaden Glew, Carter Forget and Braidon Duncan, round out the blueliners.

Aside from back-up goalie Kyle Lycett, the Dolphins had a full line-up with no midget players, with goalie Riley Brown returning from injury, making 37 saves against Mt. Brydges.

"Tonight was the first time since late October we had 18 guys with no call-ups," said Flynn, adding with a laugh, "We had them for two and half minutes, until Pieps had a fight."

Tim Pieper and Mt Brydges' Jacob Smith dropped the gloves just 2:28 in to the game.

Forwards  Zach Robertson and Nolan Blewett, both with an uncertain timetable for a return and goalie Ryan Murray, remain out with injuries.

Forward Lucas Wilson has four games left on his suspension.

Forward Tristan Walsh was released.
