WELLAND, ON -  The Parkside Lady Stampeders are back to back Niagara Cup tournament champions.

This year the girls' soccer team did it in the AAA division, defeating Cardinal Newman, from Stony Creek, 1-0, in the final, on penalty kicks, at Youngs Sportsplex, Wednesday.

Scoreless after regulation and overtime, Parkside was perfect from the penalty spot, with Ashley Watson, Taylor Goodhue and Tiffany Johnston scoring. Aviva Fournie was in net for the Lady Stamps.

Cardinal Newman won the OFSAA bronze medal last season and was the AAA champions two years ago.

Parkside beat Governor Simcoe, 2-0, in the semifinals and Winston Churchill, 2-1, in a quarterfinal.

The Stampeders opened the event, defeating both Grimsby and Governor Simcoe, by 1-0 scores.

Johnston led the Lady Stamps with four goals in the tournament. Katie Ellery and Braelyn Dennis had one goal each.

Parkside, the three time reigning WOSSAA AA champions, taking OFSAA gold in 2016, has 27 players on the roster this season, just five in their Grade 12 year.

The Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) season kicks off on Tuesday, May 1, with Parkside hosting the West Elgin Wildcats.

The Stampeders will also be at the Gemini Cup, in Tillsonburg, on Friday, May 4.
