ST. THOMAS, Ont. - Both the West Elgin Wildcats and Lord Dorchester Beavers have a pair of champions, from the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South-East junior badminton championships.
West Elgin took both boys and girls' doubles titles.
Ashley Tucker and Katie Bradshaw beat East Elgin's Alyssa Voros and Katie Olebar, in the girls' doubles final. Ryan Long and Gavin Lunn won gold, defeating Woodstock CI, in the boys' doubles title game.
Katie McDonald, of Lord Dorchester, is the ladies' singles champion, defeating Michelle Mills, of Parkside, in the gold medal match.
The Beavers' mixed doubles team of Kyle Morris and Sydney Graham, beat Glencoe's Megan Hamilton and Dylan Gould, in their final.
The top four in each of the five divisions qualify for the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) tournament, April 27 at London Saunders.
Woodstock College Ave won the team title, highlighted by landing the top three positions, in men's singles and sending two girls' doubles teams.
East Elgin sends athletes in each division to WOSSAA.
Along with Voros and Olebar, the Eagles have their boys' doubles team of Cole Hubert and Jason Dyck, who placed third. Finishing fourth in their respective divisions, are Isabella Wall and Ethan Ried, in mixed doubles, Bryan Harms, men's singles and Lauren Cattrysse, women's singles.
Wildcats' Carter Moraal and Jake McQuade finished fourth, in boys' doubles.
