The St. Thomas Shock are
under-12 girls' Ontario Cup Division Five champions.
Defence carried the Shock to
a 40-29 comeback win over the Milton Stags, in the final, at St. Catharines,
April 7th.
Trailing by nine points with
four minutes remaining in the first half, the Shock combined consecutive steals
and converting on the fast break to swing the momentum.
By half-time, St. Thomas led
by seven points.
Hannah Wedlake led the Shock in scoring.
St. Thomas coach Karen
Lawrence said their tenacious defence and ability to capitalize on the fast
break, led the team to a 4-0 record.
St. Thomas went 3-0 in pool
play, defeating Niagara Falls Red Raider, 38-23, Dundas Dynamo, 48-31 and
Chatham Kent Wildcats, 42-32.
