MELBOURNE, Ont. - The St. Thomas Elgins are still alive at the International Softball Congress (ISC) world tournament.
The Elgins face the Toronto Batman, Tuesday morning.
St. Thomas improved to 2-2, edging CanWest Thunder, 9-8 in an extra inning Monday evening.
Steve Lyons batted three for three, with a triple and two doubles, drew a pair of base on balls and drove in three runs.
Ben Hodgins had two singles and three RBI. Mitch Roy slapped out a triple and scored three times.
CanWest tied the game at seven, in the bottom of the seventh. St. Thomas scored twice in the top of the eighth.
The Elgins took advantage of nine walks, along with nine hits.
It was the third game of the the day for St. Thomas.
Pitcher Alex Baillargeon struck out 14 batters, helping the Elgins to a 5-4 win over Delisle Diamond Dogs Monday morning.
That was after the Diamond Dogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Elgins replied with three runs in the home half of the first and tied the game in the second inning.
A RBI single by Troy Cook put the Elgins up, 5-4, in the third inning.
Hodgins, Roy and Randy Gray, each had two hits. Gray also had two RBI.
The Oshweken Redmen dropped the Elgins, 6-1, Monday afternoon. Four runs in the sixth inning broke the game open.
The Elgins were held to four hits.
In the Elgins' tournament opener Sunday, Team 518 dumped the Elgins, 12-4.
St. Thomas only trailed by a run, until Team 518 exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Gray had a double and single and one RBI for the Elgins.
Games for the men's fast pitch world club championship, are held in Melbourne, Glencoe and at Beer Creek, on the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, August 8-15.
