Railway City Races chug through St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS - The annual Railway City road races were back chugging through St Thomas.

From the CASO Station south through Pinafore Park, around the Tarry Complex and stretching in to the southeast of the city , runners raced in the five kilometre, 10K and half-marathon, September 27.

Proceeds from the event support Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas-Elgin.

Nash Okkerse of Sparta won the student five kilometre in 15 minutes and 50 seconds (15:50). Ethan Brown of Tillsonburg finished second, while Jack Rice of St. Thomas was fourth.

All three 15-year olds train with the St. Thomas Legion Club.

Mark Steed won the open men's five in 16:31. Top female was Lindsay Crawford of St. Thomas (20:14).

Aaron Canfield of Woodstock and former Huron Park Huskie, took the 10K race in 34:20.

Nikki Skinner of Elgin County was the top female, 11th overall, finishing in 44:55, followed by Charlotte Wilton from Thorndale in second place (46:54), 17th overall.

Ethan Andersen of St. Thomas led the half marathon wire to wire, finishing in one hour, 13 minutes and 13 seconds.

Dylan Bull was second and Nissa Vandenbogaard, third and the top female, in a field of 226 runners.

Gabriel Loveday won the student 10K (41:23), with Sarah Robinson top female (47:01).
