AUBURN HILLS, Michigan - Brody Mann crashed the party.
The 18-year old from St. Thomas won the men's pro race at the 61st annual Debaerts Devos Pro Am Sunday, August 30 at Oakland University.
The event featured the Michigan State Criterium cycling championships, the State's longest running road race.
"Very happy to have taken away a win at my final race of the season," said Mann, who is with the Hustle Cycling team out of Toronto. "It is always nice to come away with a win, and I am very glad to have done it at a race I am very happy to attend each year."
Mann crossed the finish line first from a three rider battle over the final stretch of the approximate kilometre long circuit.
"With one lap to go, I took the front of the breakaway and didn't come off it until the finish line," Mann said. "I was feeling very comfortable in the group during the race. After getting off the front with two others with around 25 laps to go I knew I had a strong chance at victory. Some additional testing sprints throughout the race gave me the confidence I needed to know that I had the win in the bag. Overall very confident throughout. I had a very strong belief in myself and my ability."
Much to the disappointment of Michigan natives, Mann is a State champion.
"Very happy to have crashed the party," Mann said.
