Four athletes capture double gold at Valley track and field

LONDON, Ont. - Four athletes finished the school year as double gold medalists in track and field.

Davenport's Jeremy Scott, Dutton-Dunwich's Holden McKillop, Mitchell Hepburn's Kian Wardle and Northdale Central's Brooklyn Samko, each won two events, at the Thames Valley District School Board Valley track and field championships, the Valley finals, June 14 at Western University.

Scott won both the senior boys (Grade 7) 100 (13.42 seconds) and 400 (one minute and .71 seconds - 1:00.71) metre dashes.

McKillop set a meet record in the junior boys (Grade 5) 800 metres (2:34.00), along with winning the 400 metres (1:06.71)

Wardle finished first in both the open boys (Grade 8) 800 (2:18.00) and 1500 (4:50.00).

Brooklyn Samko won the intermediate girls (Grade 6) 800 metres by six seconds (2:40.0), as well as taking gold in the 400m (1:08.68). Samko won both races last year as a junior.

The Southwold Cougars had 25 athletes with top six results, led by the golden Grade six (Intermediate) boys 4x100-metre relay team of Tommy Hitch, Keaton Andrews, Bennett McIntyre, and Griffin Todd.

McIntyre also took silver in junior high jump, the same colour for Caiden Adair in intermediate boys triple jump. Charlotte McIntyre leaped to a bronze medal in open girls high jump.

Northdale Central from Dorchester, had 20 athletes in the top six and the Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs out of St. Thomas, 17.
