NEW HAMBURG, Ont. - The Dorchester Dolphins found the net a lot but could not put the puck into it enough.
Despite outshooting the New Hamburg Firebirds, 49 to 21, the Dolphins dropped their season opener, 5-3, on the road Friday.
Dorchester peppered Firebirds' goalie Deklan Jermol, a former Dolphin, with 18 shots in the first period, but trailed 1-0.
The shot clock was even more lopsided in period two, at 21-5 for the Dolphins, but the Firebirds led 3-0.
Dolphins' Ethan Bourgeois, Quinn Gavin-White and Colsen Joyce, scored in the third period.
Jermol finished with 46 saves. Dolphins' tender Ethan Anderson stopped 16 of 21 shots.
The Dolphins were one for five on the power play, while the Firebirds were zero for two.
For their home opener, Sunday, at 3:30 p.m., Dorchester hosts the Paris Mounties.
