Cardinals 2-0 with second mercy at OBA U18 C tourney

ST. THOMAS - A pair of five inning victories have the St. Thomas Cardinals, 2-0, at the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) 18U C provincial tournament.

The Cardinals scored three runs in each of the first and second innings and five runs in the fourth, in a 13-2 pounding of Listowel Friday at Emslie Field.

St. Thomas opened with 11-1 five inning mercy of Strathroy on Thursday.

"Every guy in the lineup had a hit today, so the bats were on fire," Cardinals manager Ryan Morrison said. "Five or six to the fence. Warning track power, but it's good. Everyone was hitting gaps and getting on base."

Aiden Ward batted three for four, including a triple and scored three runs, while Cam Morrison had a pair of singles and drew a base on balls, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Tyler Serratore had three RBIs and Wyatt Atchison, two.

Pitcher Aaron Dyke picked up the win on the mound, and with Andrew Oakes, combined to limit Listowel to two doubles and five singles.

"It's going to get tough tomorrow. We'll have two tough opponents. Back to back too," Ryan Morrison said. "As long as we keep the bats going and our pitching has been dominant. But it only gets tougher from here."

St. Thomas faces Mitchell, 1 p.m. Saturday at Emslie.

In a meeting last month at Mitchell, the Cardinals fell, 4-2.

Win or lose, the Cardinals will play again at 4 p.m.

Mitchell is the lone 3-0 team, beating Stayner, 16-6, LaSalle, 2-0 and Exeter, 19-8, Friday night.

Heading in to Saturday, five teams are at 2-1; LaSalle, Tecumseh, Stayner, Exeter and Listowel.

Six teams have been eliminated, Kincardine, Uxbridge, Blenheim, Strathroy, Caledonia and Thorold.
