CHATHAM, Ont. - A pair seven run innings carried the St. Thomas 9U Cardinals to an opening win at their Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) B championship.
Seven runs in both the first and third innings, plus six more in the fourth, gave the Cardinals a 20-12 win over the Waterdown Wolves Friday.
The Cardinals pounded out 25 hits, led by three-for-three performances by Ben Gustavson, Ben Wakefield and Xavi Hill.
Gustavson, solo and Zion Gibbons, two-run shot, touched 'em all, with inside the park home runs.
Nolan Dodson had a triple, single and four RBIs.
Jose Albor and Josie Goodhue, both hit triples and had two RBIs.
James Laddy also had a triple, while Landon Dykstra had a pair of doubles and one RBI.
Six Cardinals errors aided Waterdown in their scoring, with six runs coming in the fifth inning.
St. Thomas faces Brockton in game two.
