8U Cardinals bring home OBA silver

LEAMGINTON, Ont. - The St. Thomas 8U Cardinals are bringing home provincial silver.

The Leamington Lakers captured the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) 8U B title on home field, downing the Cardinals, 15-5, in the final Sunday.

A one run game at 4-3 Leamington after one inning, the host team continued their offensive output, scoring runs in four of the next five innings.

St. Thomas finished with a record at 5-2, losing twice to Leamington.

James Hummel batted two-for-three for the Cardinals, drove in a run and scored twice, while Clayton Fehr was also two-for-three, including a triple with one RBI and a run scored.

Clayton Dystra and Sullivan Daynard, each had two hits and one RBI.

A seven run fourth inning carried the Cardinals to a 15-13 edging of Woodstock in the semifinals earlier Sunday.

Fehr and Nash Thorner both went four-for-four, with Fehr having a triple and three RBIs and Thorner, a double and two RBIs.

Dystra and Felix Coxon both had three hits and scored twice. Ryan Miedema was three-for-three, with two RBIs.

St. Thomas opened the four day tournament with a 18-0 silencing of Kawartha on day one.

Thorner hit a home run, while Fehr and Coxon both had triples.

St. Thomas split games on day two, dropping Orillia, 11-1, but losing to Leamington, 13-5.

Coxon, Daynard and Brett Hrstic, had triples against Chatham.
