CHATHAM, Ont. - The St. Thomas 12U Cardinals are one win away from advancing to the semifinals at the Ontario Baseball Association 12U B championship.
St. Thomas is 2-0 heading into Sunday, following a 7-0 shutout of Waterdown Friday and edging Georgina, 5-4, Saturday. The Cardinals face local rival Woodstock Sunday morning. A win advances the team, while a loss means an extra game to move on to the Sunday night semifinals.
St. Thomas improved to 2-0, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the third against Georgina.
Four Cardinals' pitchers combined for a six hitter with seven strikeouts.
Huck Wilson had a pair of RBIs and Memphis Hartman, a double and single, one base on balls and a RBI. Tommy H, Tyson H, had the other RBIs. Jake Cook had a single, drew a walk, swiped a pair of bases and scored twice.
In their opener, pitchers Olivia Miron and Kacey Cook combined for a two-hitter. Cook struck out 15 batters over 5.2 innings.
Tyson H went two-for-two at the plate, drew a walk, drove in a run and scored one.
Wilson had two RBIs and Jack Luyks, Reid Hunter and Hartman, one each.
