ST. THOMAS - The Parkside Stampeders are returning to the final.

The Parkside Stampeders are heading back to the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) Central Division AAA junior girls basketball final.

Lucy Doan scored 15 points and Jade Lawrence had 13, as the Stampeders defeated the Lucas Vikings, 40-37, in a semifinal, at Parkside CI.

"We're really good at playing together. A lot of us have played together before. We know what we like to do and we work well together," said Jade Lawrence, one of two Grade 10 players, along with Lucy Doan.

"We're really good on the defensive end. Brooklyn (Roberts-Neef), with those blocks and those steals by Sara (Pfeffer)."

Tied at 10 after the first quarter, the Stampeders held a 22-19 advantage at half-time and led as much as nine points in the third quarter.

"I love my team very much. We only have eight, but we're a very tight knit group," said Lawrence.

Seven players, corrected Lawrence, as Blair Dawdy tore her meniscus at the beginning of the season.

The final will be a rematch of last year's Central Division AAA title game, against the Medway Cowboys, that the Stampeders won.

"Good defence, finishing our shots and keeping tbe intensity up," said Lawarence, of what the Stampeders need to do, to go back to back.

Medway went undefeated this regular season, at 8-0, but the win against Parkside was a forfeit, due to sickness among the Stampeders and the game being cancelled.

The 2022 final is at Fanshawe College, 3:30 p.m., November 10.

In senior action, Parkside lost their semifinal, 41-32.
