OAKVILLE, Ont. - The St. Thomas Shock are Ontario
Cup U10 champions.
St. Thomas went 4-0 dribbling through the
competition averaging 33 points per game while only giving up 10, to capture the
Ontario Cup U10 girls Division three basketball title, March 26.
"Our strengths throughout the tournament were the
hustle and heart the girls brought to the court each and every shift. All of our
girls rose to the occasion and contributed in some way every shift, every game,"
Shock head coach Laura Walters said. "Our biggest focus throughout the season
has been movement, and our court vision and passing were incredible this
weekend. The girls also played really stellar defence."
In the final, Ashley Sleegers had a team leading
14 points as the Shock dumped the County Clippers, 31-12. Peri Walters and Sofie
Annett, had six points each.
St. Thomas tipped off the three day tournament
doubling up on the County Clippers, 33-15, with Sleegers dropping 12 points,
Annett, seven and Walters and Ava Smith, six each.
The Shock electrocuted Kitchener-Waterloo 30-3,
with Sleegers having eight points and Walters and Annett, seven each.
Walters poured in 16 points and Annett had nine,
as the Shock downed the Gloucester-Cumberland Wolverines 39-11.
