Williams leads Vikings' taming of Wildcats

ST. THOMAS –  The CentraNash Williams poured in a game high 23 points as the Voaden Vikings defeated the West Elgin Wildcats, 62-33, in TVRA boys' basketball at Voaden.
Nathan Graham had 15 points for the home team, while Danny Dasilva chipped in with seven. Hunter Chappel led the Wildcats with 16 points.
The Vikings took both meetings against the Wildcats this season, winning 51-38 at West Elgin, December 5

WEST LORNE, ON. - Mallory Hooghiem, left and Matt Woods, are the West Elgin Wildcats' female and male senior athletes of the year for 2017/18, while Tyler Mosher and Lydia Jocius, are the Wildcats' junior athletes of the year.

De Sousa leads Titans capturing double WOSSAA gold

LONDON, ON. –  The Dorchester and Elgin County area had seven athletes win 11 gold medals, led by the Central Elgin Titans with five to call their own, at the WOSSAA track and field championships, at TD Stadium. Titan Tayah De Sousa brought home two gold medals, winning both the midget women's 80-metre hurdles and long jump, while Hannah Onyema took top spot in midget women's shot put and discus. Hayden Bell won senior men's high jump.
Parkside Stampeder Michael Roth is a triple champion, the fastest in the junior men's 300 and 400 metres races and 300-metre hurdles. Fellow Stampeder Arthur Stanat, tossed out the farthest throws in both midget men's shot put and discus. East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen won both the midget women's 800 and 1500 metre races. Dorchester's Abby Downing leaped to the midget women's pole vault title.

TVRA track and field

LONDON, ON. –  From the Lord Dorchester Beavers capturing the men's and women's 1A overall team titles, to multiple gold medalists, including athletes with their first career wins, highlights were plenty, at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) track and field championships, at TD Stadium. Hannah Onyema led the Central Elgin Titans, tossing out the best distances in midget women's shot put and discus. The top 10 in each event, advance to the WOSSAA meet, back at TD Stadium, May 24/25.

St. Joe's four-peats as TVRA South-East tennis champs

ST. THOMAS –  For the fourth consecutive year, the St. Joseph's Rams captured the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) tennis team title.
The Rams won men's singles (Alex Craig) and mixed doubles (Addie Mailhout & Jack Ainsworth) titles and placed second in men's doubles (Sam Hardy & Denys Reid) and mixed doubles (Bryce Mailhot & Olivia Tasker). Central Elgin Titans' Emma Blewett and Holly Monteith won women's doubles and West Elgin Wildcat Taylor Schnekenburger won ladies' singles.

Kettle Creek prepares athletes for upcoming championship meets

ST. THOMAS –  Following a one year absence after being cancelled due to weather, the Kettle Creek Invitational track and field meet, hosted by the St. Thomas Legion Club, had near perfect conditions this day. The wind was brisk at times, but the sun shined and the temperatures were ideal for athletes preparing for the upcoming championship meets, starting with the Thames Valley Regional, May 16-17.

Parkside's Willmore third at WOSSAA junior badminton

LONDON, ON. –  Blake Willmore, from Parkside Collegiate Institute, accomplished his goal of a top four performance, placing third, in men's singles, at the WOSSAA junior badminton championship, at Saunders secondary school. Medway won the men's singles title, defeating London CCH, the only two competitors to beat Willmore, who finished with a 4-2 record.
The East Elgin Eagles ladies' doubles team of Abby DeCoutere and Mackenzie Wiebe, tied for seventh, with a 2-2 record. CCH won the team title, edging Listowel District Collegiate.

Eagles take TVRA South-East junior title

TILLSONBURG, ON –  Their time put in at practice is paying off for the East Elgin Eagles. Led by their WOSSAA qualifiers, Kayla Voros and Rachel Sawatzky, in girls' singles and four doubles teams, the East Elgin Eagles won Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South-East Division junior badminton team title.

STRATHROY, ON. –  Katie Bradshaw and Ashley Tucker have established themselves as one of the top female doubles team, finishing fourth at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) senior badminton championships, at Strathroy DCI.

Eagles and Beavers, big winners in TVRA divisional junior badminton

ST. THOMAS –  The East Elgin Eagles had 11 top four results, at least two from each division, at the Thames Valley Regional Association (TVRA) South Division junior badminton championships, at Parkside Collegiate Institute. The top four in each of the five divisions, advanced to the TVRA South-East tournament, at Glendale high school, in Tillsonburg, Monday, April 23rd.
At College Avenue secondary school, in Woodstock, the Lord Dorchester Beavers won the team title.

Eagles win three divisions at TVRA South badminton

GLENCOE, ON –  The East Elgin Eagles won three of the five divisions, at the Thames Valley Regional Association (TVRA) South Division senior badminton championships, at Glencoe District high school. The top four in each division, advance to the TVRA South-East tournament, at Parkside Collegiate Institute, Monday, April 16th. The Eagles led the South with seven athletes qualifying.

Knelsen wins midget race, St. Joe's overall champs, at Tri-County XC meet

SPRINGWATER, ON. –  Hallee Knelsen is a Tri-County champion. The East Elgin secondary school runner won the midget girls' race, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County cross-country championships, at the Springwater Conservation Area. Knelsen was the lone individual race champion, from Elgin County-Dorchester, however, local schools dominated the team divisions.
St. Joe's took the overall boys and girls' team titles, led by their first place senior boys and senior girls' teams..

Runners test Thames Valley X-C course

SPRINGWATER, ON. –  Runners from across the Thames Valley Region had the opportunity to check the terrain and the competition, at the annual Springwater Invitational cross country meet.
Actually, at Springwater Conservation Area, the site for both TVRA Tri-County and Central division cross-country championships next week, the terrain may be tougher than any opponent.

UNION, ON. –  The West Elgin Wildcats (Owen Lunn, Josh McQuade, Connor Grexton, Gavin Lunn) won the 'B' flight title, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County boys' golf championship, at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club.

EXETER, ON. –  The West Elgin Wildcats are WOSSAA A boys' soccer silver medalists. Strathroy Holy Cross won the gold medal final, defeating West Elgin, 3-1.
In the semi-finals, West Elgin edged London Westminster, 3-2.

West Elgin wins TVRA 1A boys soccer final

WEST LORNE, ON. – Hannah Vickers scored twice to lead the Dorchester Beavers in a 4-0 silencing of Glencoe, in the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) 1A South-East girls' soccer final, at West Elgin secondary school. Avery Dance and Lauren Gellner, on a penalty kick, also scored. Julie Piper picked up the shutout.
In the boys' final, West Elgin won on home turf, downing Dorchester, 4-1.

Wildcats top four in three events

WOODSTOCK, ON. – Three top five results led the West Elgin Wildcats at the Woodstock Spring Classic track and field meet, at College Avenue secondary school. Ryan Paradis, in the midget boys' 3000 metres (10:29.95) and Matt Greidanus, in junior boys' javelin (39.06 metres), both place third. Terel Scott was fourth, in senior boys' javelin (36.72m).

Bradshaw & Tucker  win WOSSAA gold in junior badminton

LONDON. ON. –  The West Elgin Wildcats' girls' doubles team of Ashley Tucker and Katie Bradshaw are WOSSAA champions. Bradshaw and Tucker went undefeated, capping their run by beating Medway in the final, at the WOSSAA junior badminton championships, at Saunders high school.

ST. THOMAS – The West Elgin Wildcats and Lord Dorchester both have two champions, while the East Elgin Eagles qualified in each division, at the TVRA South-East division junior badminton championships, at Parkside CI. The top four in each of the five divisions, qualify for the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) tournament April 27, at London Saunders.

WOODSTOCK, ON – The East Elgin Eagles are taking their wings to the next level. East Elgin won two of the five divisions, en route to winning the team title, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South-East senior badminton championships.

Eagles dominate TVRA South senior badminton

GLENCOE, ON – The East Elgin Eagles won three of the five divisions at the Thames Valley Region Athletics South conference senior badminton tournament.
Champions representing East Elgin were, Leo Centeno in men’s singles, the women’s doubles team of Kendra Cornelissen and Leah Moore and the mixed doubles team of Abby Taylor and Cooper Van Vlaanderen. Eagles’ Morgan Blair placed second, losing to Central Elgin Titans’ Miranda Gowdey, in the ladies’ singles final.
West Elgin Wildcats’ men’s doubles team of Garrett Dielman and Brandon Sadecky, beat Central Elgin’s Brady and Landon Johnstone, in the gold medal final.
The top four in each division, advance to the TVRA South-East championships. Central Elgin and West Elgin, each have five of the 20 total qualifying positions.

Wildcats bring home WOSSAA volleyball silver

ST. MARYS, ON. –  They are returning home with silver. The West Elgin Wildcats met a more talented team in the WOSSAA ‘A’ senior girls’ volleyball final, named the St. Marys Salukis. The host team won the gold medal and advances to OFSAA, following a three game sweep of the Wildcats, 25-8, 25-10, 25-17.

Parkside's Stark named Mr. Volleyball

ST. THOMAS –  Clayton Stark is Mr. Volleyball, for the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South-East Division. Stark helped the Parkside Stampeders win the TVRA South-East senior boys' AAA title and advance to the WOSSAA final. Stark, along with Cooper Van Vaanderen (East Elgin), Patrick Acres (West Elgin), Nathyn Smeets (St. Joe’s) and Jacob Nevilll (Arthur Voaden), were selected for the TVRA boys all-star volleyball game.

Seven WOSSAA medals for local schools

ST. THOMAS –  Teams from St. Thomas - Elgin County and Dorchester high schools, brought home six medals from the WOSSAA tournaments for girls basketball and boys volleyball.
Lord Dorchester was the lone champion, winning the senior girls A basketball championship, defeating St. Marys DCVI, 47-38.
The Parkside Stampeders made the senior girls’ AA basketball final, but lost to London Mother Teresa, 48-33.
At triple A basketball, the East Elgin Eagles won the bronze medal game at both the senior and junior levels. The senior Eagles beat London CCH, 42-30, after losing to London Lucas, 64-29, in their semi-final. Lucas features Sarah Donavan, who recently signed a letter of intent to attend Davidson College.
In volleyball, the Parkside Stampeders were AA silver medalists, losing the final to host Stratford Central.
East Elgin captured the bronze medal in AAA action, in a three game sweep of London CCH. The Eagles lost to the eventual champions, London Saunders, in the semi-finals.
The West Elgin Wildcats also took home bronze, dusting St. Marys DCVI, in three games, at the 'A' tournament.

Beavers dispose of the Wildcats

DORCHESTER –  The bench played as much as the West Elgin starters. That's how one-sided this Thames Valley Region senior girls basketball "A" playoff  game was in favour, of the Lord Dorchester Beavers. Megan Beaudry had a game high 10 points as the Beavers dumped the West Elgin Wildcats 36-8.
