LONDON, Ont. - St. Thomas twins Charlie and Harrison Halpenny had a golden debut at their first provincials. Each brother won a gold and bronze medal in U14 boys hurdles at Athletics Ontario U14 u16 U18 championships, August 6-8, at Western University.
Charlie won the 80-metre hurdles and finished third in the 200-metre hurdles, while Harrison took gold in the 200 hurdles and bronze in the 80 hurdles.
Sparta's Libby McCurdy won U18 women's pole vault with leap of 3.30 meters, just two centimeters below her personal best record. Matt Piekny of St. Thomas, took silver in U18 men's pole vault.

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - Michael Roth finished fourth in the men's 400-metre dash final, today at the North American Central American Caribbean (NACAC) U23 track and field championships. The 21-year old from St. Thomas clocked in at 46.47 seconds.
Jamaican D'Andre Anderson won the race in 45.56 seconds. Kyle Gale of Barbados was second (45.80 sec.) and American William Jones, third (45.95 sec.) Roth qualified third for the final, with personal best time of 45.82 seconds.
Next up for Roth are the Canadian track and field championships, July 27-30, in Langley, B.C.

TORONTO, Ont. - Mason Basson is a provincial U20 men's 800-metre champion. The Sparta resident won the twice around the oval race in one minute and 52.86 seconds (1:52.86) at Athletics Ontario Open and U20 championships today at the Toronto track and field center. Basson who trains with St. Thomas Legion was just a second off his personal best time, taking the race by about two-tenths of the second over Toronto's John O'Reilly and London's Tom Boers. Vincent Moore, of St. Thomas, with London-Western Club, was 14th (1:57.12). Hallee Knelsen, from Malahide, with St. Thomas Legion Club, finished seventh, in open women's 800 metre run (2:08.39). Alexis Gray, 15, finished 55th, in the U20 women's 200-metre dash (28.37 sec.).

TORONTO, Ont. - Jadyn Luna won a silver medal in U20 women's shot put, at Athletics Ontario U20 and Open championships today at the Toronto track and field center. The Thorndale native who trains with London-Western Club had a best toss of 11.11 metres.
Luna was eighth in the women's U20 100-metre hurdles finishing in 15.47 seconds.
Hallee Knelsen of Malahide, with St. Thomas Legion Club (STL), placed seventh in the Open women's 1500 metre run, with a four second personal best (PB) time of four minutes and 24.72 seconds (4:24.72). Tayah DeSousa of St. Thomas, with STL, was 15th in both Open women's long jump (5.32m) and the 100-metre hurdles (15.12 sec.). Alexis Gray, just 15 years old, was 21st in the U20 women's 400-metre dash (1:04.75).

LONDON, Ont. - David Anderson won the U18 men's discus (39.24 metres) and shot put (13.47m), at John Allen Field Series meet two Sunday, at Western University. Anderson, from St. Thomas, also placed third in the hammer throw (26.96m) and was one four athletes with St. Thomas Legion Club.
Brady Fodor from Shedden, placed third in both open men's discus (40.07m) and shot put (13.03m). Jayden Sargearnt was third in U18 men's javelin (32.49m) and fourth in shot put (11.17m).
Emma Westbrook, of St. Thomas, was second in U18 women's javelin (31.67m) and third in shot put (9.33m).

TORONTO, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen, of Malahide, placed seventh, in the open women's 800-metre run, at the Toronto Track 800 metre night, Tuesday at the University of Toronto. Knelsen, with St. Thomas Legion Club (STL), finished with a season best time of two minutes and 8.7 seconds (2:08.07) in a field featuring 220 runners. Sadie-Jane Hickson won in 2:04.88. Mason Basson, of Sparta, with STL, was 23rd, in the men's 800m (1:52.93) event, with 260 participants. Vincent Moore, of St. Thomas, with London-Western club, was 62nd (1:56.03).

EDMONTON, Alta. - Michael Roth won the silver medal in the men's 400-metre dash at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational, a stop on Athletics Canada's National track and field tour. The 21-year old St. Thomas native was just one-hundredth of a second off his personal best time, finishing in 45.96 seconds, behind Myles Misner-Daley, who won in 45.85 seconds. Roth is preparing for the 2023 Canadian track and field championships, July 27-30, in Langley, B.C.

WINDSOR, Ont. - Michael Roth keeps adding to his collection of medals. Roth, from St. Thomas, won silver in the Elite men's 400 metre dash and bronze, in the 200-metre dash, at the Johnny Loaring Classic track and field meet June 24 at the University of Windsor. Only Olympic champion Bryce Deadman beat Roth in the 400, winning in 44.75 seconds, to Roth's 45.67 seconds, just off his personal best time. Roth, with St. Thomas Legion Club, set a PB in the 200 finishing third in 20.85 seconds.
Deadman won gold with the American men's 4x400-metre relay team, and bronze in the mixed 4x4, at the Tokyo Games.
Roth, the Canadian U23 men's record holder in the 400 metres, won both the 200
and 400 at the Canada Summer Games last summer.

GUELPH, Ont. - Mike Roth won the elite men's 400-metre dash, at Royal City Inferno track and field festival, Wednesday night at the University of Guelph. The St. Thomas native finished in 46.07 seconds, and with the win picked up $400.
The Elite division was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour and offered prize money for top three placements. The amont varied for each event. The winners for the men's 100-metre dash, women's 800-metre run and men's long jump, each took home $1000.
Mason Basson, of Sparta, finished third in the open men's 800-metre run, in a time of one minute and 52.66 seconds (1:52.66). Hallee Knelsen, of Malahide, was 20th, in the elite women's 800 (2:10.85). All three athletes train with St. Thomas Legion Club.

ST. THOMAS - Mike Roth has been named to Athletics Canada's team for the North American Central American Caribbean (NACAC) U23 championships, July 21-23 in San Jose, Costa Rica. The St. Thomas native will run the 400-metre dash.
Last August, Roth won gold in the 200 and 400-metre sprints at the
Canada Summer Games. At the 2022 Canadian track and field championships, Roth
placed fifth in the senior men's 400-metre final.

HAMILTON, Ont. - Mike Roth won the men's 200-metre dash, at the Puma PB night, Monday, the at Mona Campbell Track. The 20-year old from St. Thomas, who trains with St Thomas Legion Club, crossed the finish line in 21.79 seconds, the only competitor under 22 seconds. Roth will be running the 400-metre dash at the Canada Summer Games, starting with the heats, on Tuesday, August 16. The final is Friday, Aug. 19. Vincent Moore, of St. Thomas, with London-Western, placed eighth, in the open men's 800-metre run (1:58.14).
CALI, Columbia - Hallee Knelsen missed advancing from the women's 800-metre heats, at the World Athletics U20 championships, this morning. The 19-year old from Malahide at her first international meet with Team Canada, finished seventh in her heat, 18th overall, in a time of 2:09.09. The top four in each of the five heats and next four fastest times, moved on to the semifinals. OTTAWA, Ont. - Mike Roth and Hallee Knelsen, both placed second, in their events, at the Canadian Track and Field League championship. Roth, of St. Thomas, was second, in the men's 400-metre dash, finishing in 47.91 seconds. Knelsen, of Malahide, was runner-up, in the women's 800-metres (2:09.91), behind her Western Mustang teammate, Sophie Coutts (2:09.64). Dylen Belanger finished sixth, in the men's 400-metre hurdles. All three athletes, along with Tayah DeSousa, who did not compete in long jump due to injury, train with St. Thomas Legion club.

OTTAWA, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen is one of 33 athletes who will represent Canada at the World Athletics U20 championships in Cali, Columbia, August 1 to 6. The 19-year old from Malahide will be competing in the women's 800-metre run.
This is the first National team for the 2021 graduate of East Elgin secondary school and member of St. Thomas Legion track and field club.
Knelsen aims to set a personal best time, currently 2:06.74 and to make the semifinals. Knelsen's teammate
on the Western University Mustangs, Chloe Coutts, will represent the country in the women's 1500-metre

TORONTO, Ont. - Two St. Thomas Legion members won gold at the Nxtchamp Invitational meet, in Toronto, June 18-19. Mason Basson (photo) won the U19 men's 800 metres (1:57.43), while Dylen Belanger took the U19 men's 400-metre hurdles title (54.72 sec.). Emma Westbrook was seventh, in U17 women's long jump (4.46m) and ninth in the 80-metre hurdles (14.24 sec.).

TORONTO, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen successfully defended her gold medal in both of her races. The 19-year old from Malahide, won the women's 800 and 1500 metre races, at Athletics Ontario's U20 championships, June 8-10, at York University.
Knelsen was one of five athletes from St. Thomas Legion Club, who captured medals. AJ Stanat, of St. Thomas, won silver in men's discus, shot put and hammer throw. Tayah DeSousa won silver in women's long jump and placed fourth, in the 100-metre hurdles. Dylen Belanger, took silver in the men's 400-metre hurdles and finished fifth, in the 110-metre hurdles. Mason Basson brought home bronze, from the men's 1500 metres and placed fourth, in the 800 metres.
Brothers Aiden and Tristan Coles, of St. Thomas, finished one-two, in the men's 1500 metres. The London-Western Club members, closed the meet, winning the men's 4x400-metre relay race, with Harrison Belanger and Vincent Moore.

MALAHIDE, Ont. - A short but successful 2021 outdoor track season for Malahaide's Hallee Knelsen, setting personal best times in the 800 (2:07.44) and 1500 (4:28.8) metre runs. On Athletics Ontario's 2020-21 Team Ontario (high performance program), Knelsen both the 800 and 1500 at the AO U20 championships. At AO Open meet, Knelsen was third in the 1500 and fifth in the 800, setting her PB of 2:07.44. Five times, Knelsen ran the 800 metres under two minutes 10 seconds.

ST. THOMAS - Arthur (A.J) Stanat never missed standing on the podium at OFSAA. Stanat was the OFSAA discus champion at as a midget and junior men's competitor and took home the bronze medal both years in shot put. Four events at OFSAA. Four times he left the high school provincial championship with hardware.

ST. THOMAS - Michael Roth never had the opportunity to realize his full potential on the track throughout high school. The St. Thomas native has several highlights and set a few school records while at Parkside Collegiate Institute, but injuries and the covid pandemic robbed him of the possibility of more achievements. This summer however, has been a breakout year for the soft spoken 19-year old.

NAIROBI, Kenya - Michael Roth, of St. Thomas, lowered his career best time to 46.10 seconds, placing sixth, in the men's 400-metre final, at the World Athletics U20 championships this morning. Only a month ago, Roth had a PB of 47.25 seconds, set at Athletics Ontario's U20 meet in Toronto. Roth set a new PB of 21.14 seconds, in the men's 200-metre dash Friday, although he did not advance from the semifinals.

TORONTO, Ont. - Nineteen year old Michael Roth won a silver medal in the men's 400 metre run, blitzing the oval in a personal best time of 46.70 seconds, this evening, at
Athletics Ontario Open championships.
Thirty-one year old Philip Osei won gold in 46.39 seconds. The St. Thomas native who trains with St. Thomas Legion Club, is heading to the World Athletics U20 championships in late August.
Hallee Knelsen won a bronze medal in the women's 1500-metre run, finishing in 4:30.81, this morning. The 18-year old Knelsen was just off her personal best time of 4:28.8, placing behind winner Ashley Taylor (4:29.54) and silver medalist Kate Current (4:30.61).

TORONTO, Ont. - No one should ever count out Michael Roth. The St. Thomas Legion Club athlete had one memorable meet, winning the men's 200-metre dash, a day after taking gold in the men's 400-metre dash, today at the Athletics Ontario Under-20 championships, at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
For both distances, Roth qualifies for the 2021 World Athletics U20 (junior) championships, in Kenya, next month.
However, the best for the 2020 graduate of Parkside Collegiate may have been in the men's 4x400-metre relay race.
Hallee Knelsen won her second gold medal of the meet, taking the women's 800-metre run in 2:09,
but unfortunately, Knelsen missed the qualifying time for junior worlds.
St. Thomas Legion Club finished fourth in combined team scores, bringing home six gold medals and one bronze from the two day meet.

TORONTO, Ont. - A steady rain failed to slow Michael Roth. The St. Thomas Legion Club athlete set a personal best time of 47.35 seconds winning the men's 400-metre dash, at Athletics Ontario Under-20 championships, at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
Roth was one of three St. Thomas Legion athletes to win gold today.
Tayah DeSousa lowered her PB time to 14.32 seconds, taking the women's 100-metre hurdles gold,
while Hallee Knelsen won the women's 1500-metre run in 4:34.03.
The champions were part of a nine member team representing St. Thomas
Legion.

TORONTO, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen brought home two gold medals but left the track not completely satisfied. Knelsen, who trains with the St. Thomas Legion Club, handily won both the senior women's 800 and 1500 metre races at the Nxtchamp Invitational meet at the Toronto track and field centre, July 16-18. Two years ago Tayah DeSousa was an OFSAA champion winning the junior women's 80-metre hurdles gold. The 2021 graduate from Central Elgin Collegiate Institute may have lost both of her high school senior years due to the COVID-19 pandemic but DeSousa showed she still has the golden touch.

Lexi Stanat won silver, in the novice women's discus throw. Her brother, A.J., was sixth in senior men's discus.

TORONTO, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen won the senior women's 800-metre run by over three seconds, in 2:08.60, this evening, at the 2021 NXTCHAMP Invitational track and field meet, at York University.
Knelsen who trains with St. Thomas Legion Club, is aiming to eclipse 2:07.2, to qualify for the World Jr. championships.
Club mate Lexi Stanat won Novice women's javelin with a personal best throw of 34.28 metres. Gray Fox placed second in the junior men's 200-metre sprint (23.48 seconds.
Mason Basson was fifth in the senior men's 800-metre run (1:55.71).

The Grade 12 student at East Elgin secondary school, the youngest in the field, completed two laps of the oval in 2:08.21.
Ashley Taylor won the race in 2:05.11.
Tayah DeSousa, of St. Thomas, was fourth in open women's long jump (5.50 metres) and 10th in the open women's 100-metre hurdles (15.08 seconds).

WINDSOR, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen (pictured on left) finished third in the women's 1500-metre run at the Johnny Loaring Classic, the second of four Athletics Ontario high performance outdoor track and field meets this month.
The East Elgin secondary school student who trains with St. Thomas Legion Club, ran a personal best time of 4:31.37, four seconds faster than her previous fastest time.
Para-athlete Madie Wilson-Walker (pictured on right), of Avon, placed fourth, in women's long jump, with a best effort of 4.32 metres.
Jordan Young, who attended St. Joseph's high school for grades nine and 10, won the men's discus throw with a measurement of 60.71 metres.
Young, who still holds the OFSAA high school record for midget men's discus, at 70.79 metres, set in 2009, trains with SISU Throws Club based in Toronto. After St. Joe's, Young finished high school at Vincent Massey in Windsor. A collegiate career took Young to the University of Arizona and the University of Virginia. Ontario

OTTAWA, Ont. - The excitement for two local female track and field stars was simply getting out to compete.
Following several months of limited activity, both Madison Wilson-Walker, pictured on left, and Hallee Knelsen, attended their first meet of the year, the Ottawa High Performance Weekend, June 5. The meet is the first of four of the Athletics Ontario High Performance Series, also a qualifier for the Toyko Games.
Knelsen, who will be attending Western University this September, lowered her personal best time in the women's 800-metre run, from 2:09.54 to 2:08.10. Over recent months Knelsen kept in shape with one on one training with St. Thomas Legion track and field club coach Harry Stantsos and a few time trials.

GENEVA, Ohio - Rebecca Chouinard, senior with DePaul University in Chicago, repeated as the women's hammer throw champion, with a personal throw of 60.8 metres, at the NCAA Big East Conference outdoor track and field championships, May 14.
Rebecca is with the St. Thomas Legion track and field club and a graduate of St. Joseph's high school.
Chouinard also won the event in 2019, with a best throw of 56.05m. Today, Chouinard placed 13th in shot put (35.50m). Earlier this season, Chouinard won the hammer at the Marquette Invitational meet, with a distance of 60.40 metres.

ST. THOMAS - Tayah DeSousa is taking her track spikes to the bright lights of the City of Angels. The Grade 12 student athlete at Central Elgin Collegiate, will head to California (CAL) State University Long Beach in Los Angeles, this August on scholarship. DeSousa will be focusing on hurdles, sprints, long jump and multi event competitions such as the pentathlon, while studying criminal justice, at the NCAA Division One school in the Big West Conference.

AYLMER, ON. - One of the premier middle distance runners in Canada is staying close to home. Hallee Knelsen, a Grade 12 student at East Elgin secondary school in Aylmer, received numerous offers, but in the end chose Western University, in London, to continue her education and running career.

LONDON, ON. - Cross country runners from across western Ontario had an opportunity to race.
Cross country meets, including the entire high school season, have been a casualty of Covid-19, leaving time trials and virtual races as the only options, under provincial health regulations.
Usually one meet for the entire province, Athletics Ontario had to divide their annual championship into three regionals, West, East and Central.
Fanshawe Golf Club, the site of the cancelled OFSAA high school provincial meet, hosted the AO West Region championships. Athletes were placed in waves of no more than eight runners each, based on seed times.

ST. THOMAS - Athletes have returned to track and field meets across the province, including those from St. Thomas Legion. Meet size is a major difference in COVID-19 times, with only a handful of events at each site.
Despite the lack of training over the summer compared to normal years, St. Thomas athletes are posting solid results in the first outdoor meets of the year.
Hallee Knelsen won the open women's 800 metre run, at the Back to Track Meet three, at the Terry Fox Stadium, in Brampton.
Arthur Stanat brought home gold medals in both the 16-17 year old men's shot put, winning by two metres (15.10 metres) and discus (45.84m), at the Southwest Throws Invitational, at College Avenue school, in Woodstock.
Stanat's sister, Lexi, won the 14-15 year old women's javelin (33.55m) event and placed second in shot put (12.15m).

Knelsen was second, with indoor personal best times, in the women's 400 (57.70 seconds), 800 (2:10.26) and 1500-metre (4:37.95) races. Tayah DeSousa won the U20 long jump (5.59 metres) and finished third in the 60-metre hurdles (8.84 sec.) Michael Roth finished second in the U20 men's 400-metre run (50.01 sec.)

TORONTO, ON. - If Hallee Knelsen had raced on a dirt track, the dust would have cleared before the rest of the competition reached the finish line. Knelsen won the women's 800 metre run by seven seconds (2:10.9) and the 1500 metres by nearly four seconds (4:38.29), at Athletics Ontario Under-18 provincial indoor track and field championships, February 8/9. Knelsen was one of four athletes to medal for St. Thomas Legion and one of 12 top 10 individual results. Several Legion athletes had personal best and set new club records. St. Thomas was second overall in combined team scores.

TORONTO, ON. - The St. Thomas Legion club had three gold medalists and 22 total top 10 results at Athletics Ontario indoor series meet one, January 11/12th, at the Toronto track and field centre. SYDNEY, N.S. - Hallee Knelsen has added to St. Thomas Legion Club's medal count.
The 16-year old took the bronze medal in the under-18 women's 800-metre run, on day three of the National Legion track and field championships, at Cape Breton University.
Her time of 2:09.79 was just off her personal best effort set last weekend at the Athletics Ontario provincials.
St. Thomas athletes now have six medals from the National meet.
Mason Basson just missed his second medal of the meet, finishing fourth, in the U16 boys 800-metre run. Vincent Moore and Harrison Belanger finished seventh and eighth, respectively, behind Basson.
Michael Roth finishes ninth, in the U18 men's 200-metre dash.
AJ Stanat, 16, tossed the five kilogram hammer 43.51 metres, for ninth place in the U18 men's event.
Lily Francis places 12th, in the U18 women's heptathlon, after withdrawing from the 800-metre race.

SYDNEY, N.S. - Tayah De Sousa, AJ Stanat, Mason Basson and Michael Roth have made the podium among the best in Canada.
The four St. Thomas Legion club athletes, along with the U16 men's 1600-metre medley relay team, medaled on day one and two of the National Legion track and field championships, at Cape Breton University.
De Sousa captured a silver medal in the under-18 women's 100-metre hurdles final on Friday, finishing in 14.70 seconds.
Basson took bronze in the U16 men's 1200-metre run Friday, crossing the line in 3:18.08.
Roth, wearing the Team Ontario colours, placed third today, in the U18 men's 400-metre dash. Roth, the Ontario 400 champion, finished in 48.69 seconds.
Stanat set a personal best distance taking bronze, today in the U18 men's shot put, with a toss of 14.67 metres. Stanat placed sixth in discus, with a best effort of 43.11 metres on Friday.
The relay team team of Basson, Vincent Moore, Harrison Belanger and Fox Gray, had the third best time (3:48.49) in their race today.
Hallee Knelsen just missed the podium but set a PB time of 4:35.42, finishing fourth, in the U18 women's 1500 metre run on Friday. Knelsen has the 800- metre run on Sunday.
Gray was eighth in the U16 boys 300-metre dash final (38.13 seconds).
Belanger and Moore finished eighth (3:23.82) and ninth (3:24.59) respectively, in the U16 men's 1200-metre run.
Lily Francis sits 11th overall after five events in the heptathlon.

WINDSOR, ON. - Michael Roth, Lexi Stanat and the women's 1600-metre medley relay race team captured gold at the Athletics Ontario U14/U16/U18 outdoor track and field championships, over the weekend, at Windsor Stadium.
Roth won the U18 men's 400 metre run in 48.9 seconds. The Parkside C.I. student also placed third in the 200 metre dash (22.24 sec.) and fourth in the 100 dash (11.12 sec.).
The U18 women's 1600-metre medley relay team of Kyra Vellinga, Tayah DeSousa, Earen Klassen and Hallee Knelsen, won in a meet record time of 4:06.68, breaking the old time by almost three seconds faster than 4:09.64, set by Laurel Creek, in 1991.
Knelsen, 16, went home with a medal of each colour, finishing second in the U18 1500 metre run (4:36.64) and third, in the 800-metre run (2:09.54, setting personal best times in both events.
Lexi Stanat won the U14 girls' javelin by five metres (29.86m) and placed second in both shot put (10.24m) and discus (37.37m), behind champion Julia Tunks.
Mason Basson placed second, in the U16 boys' 1200 metre run (3:18.03) and third, in the 800 metres (1:59.54).
Jadyn Luna, of Thorndale, competing with London-Western club, won the U16 girls' long jump.
Aiden Coles, of St. Thomas, competing with London Legion, won the U16 boys 2000 metre race (6:03.09).

ST. THOMAS - Michael Roth will be in the National stage for the first time in his track career. The St. Thomas Legion sprinter won the youth men's 400 metres, in 49.4 seconds, at the Legion provincial track and field championships, July 12-13, in Brampton.
Roth, heading into Grade 12 this September, at Parkside C.I., also finished second in the 200 metre dash (22.69 sec.) and fourth, in the 100 metre dash (11.24).
Eight other Legion members had top five results.
Dorchester's Brianna Rand, wearing the London Legion colours, was fourth in both the midget women's 300-metre dash (42.92 sec.) and 200-metre hurdles (29.26 sec.) and fifth, in triple jump (10.28 m).

LASALLE, ON. - Mason Basson led St. Thomas Legion Club with a pair of meet record breaking performances, at the Legion District A track and field championships, at Sandwich Secondary School.
The Parkside CI student won the under-16 boys’ 800-metre run, shaving a tenth of the second of the meet record set in 2012, to 2:02.51 and knocked off nearly two seconds in the 1200-metre run, lowering the meet record to 2:02.51. Basson, who also won U16 boys’ high jump, clearing 1.71 metres, was one of nine St. Thomas athletes win events at District A, a qualifier for the provincials, July 12-13th, at the Terry Fox Stadium, in Brampton.

TORONTO, ON. - Hallee Knelsen brought home three gold medals from the Athletics Ontario Indoor Under-18 track and field championships, February 8-10th. The winner of the girls' 800 and 1500-metre races, led a continent of 20 athletes from the St. Thomas Legion Club.
Hannah McIntrye, of Dorchester, won the under-16 girls 2000-metre run and third in the 800 metre run, part of the Ontario versus Quebec indoor dual meet, hosted by Athletics Ontario.

BRANDON, MB. – Thrower A.J. Stanat and middle distance runner Hallee Knelsen led the St. Thomas Club, at the Legion Youth National track and field championships.
Stanat threw a personal best throw of 15.02 metres, in under 16 men's shot
put, for the silver medal. Stanat was also fifth in the hammer throw (42.48m) and sixth in discus (46.49m).
Knelsen, won a bronze, in the U16 women's 800 metre run, finishing in 2:16.76. Knelsen finished seventh, in the U16 1200 metre run.
Kyra Vellinga finished fourth, in the U16 women's 200-metre hurdles final, in a time of 29.89 seconds. Tayah DeSousa was fifth, in the U16 80-metre hurdles (12.16 sec.), ninth in long jump (4.95m) and 10th, in the 200-metre hurdles (30.53 sec.). Lily Francis placed sixth, in the pentathlon.
The St. Thomas U16 women's 1600 metre medley relay was disqualified (Rule 170.7 - baton failed to be passed within the exchange zone).

LONDON, ON. – Hannah McIntyre won her second race, while thrower A.J. Stanat had a pair of second place performances. The two athletes led the St. Thomas and Dorchester contingent on the second and final day for Athletics, at TD Stadium, during the Ontario Summer Games.
McIntyre, from Dorchester, won the under-14 girls' 800 metre race in 2:22.19, a day after crossing the finish line first in the U14 1200 metres.
St. Thomas native Stanat, placed second, in both U16 boys' shot put (14.52 metres) and hammer throw (40.54m). Stanat won discus on Friday.
Madison Wilson-Walker, from Avon, won the women's ambulatory 800 metre run, a day after winning the ambulatory 100 metre dash.
Dylen Belanger, of St. Thomas, finished second, in the U16 boys' 200-metre hurdles (28.10 sec.), while Kyra Vellinga was third in the U16 girls' 200-meter hurdles (29.48 sec.).

LONDON, ON. – Lily Francis was a dominant force in the girls' pentathlon, at the Ontario Summer Games.
Francis took four of the five disciplines, to handily win the event, amassing 2,563 points. Francis finished first in the 80-metre hurdles, high jump, long jump and the 800 metre run, while placing third in shot put.
Tayah DeSousa won the under-16 girls 80-metre hurdles, in 12.17 seconds and A.J. Stanat won the U16 boys' discus. Hallee Knelsen finished second, in the U16 girls' 1200 metre run. Kyra Vellinga was fourth, in the U16 girls' 300 metre dash. All five athletes train with St. Thomas Legion track and field club.
Hannah McIntyre, from Dorchester, won the U14 girls' 1200 metre run, in 3:55.41.
Madison Wilson-Walker, of Avon, won the ambulatory 100 metres.

ST. THOMAS – Paige Wiggans, in midget girls (28.75 metres) and Lexi Stanat, in bantam girls (23.97m), won their respective javelin events, at the Great Lakes League meet three, at Jacob Hespeler secondary school. The two throwers led St. Thomas Legion at the third of four meets.
Madeleine Krahan placed third, in the open women's 800 metres (2:44.45). Claireese Coffey landed fourth, in open women's long jump (9.61 metres). Camryn Roth won section three of the open women's 200 metre sprint (27.46 sec.), while Olivia Krahn was third (27.00 sec.) in section three of the race.

WINDSOR, ON. – Arthur Stanat is a provincial champion. The St. Thomas Legion track and field club athlete won gold for the under-16 boys' discus, with a best throw of 46.38 metres, at Athletics Ontario's U18, U16, U14 championships, at University of Windsor stadium.
Stanat won the bronze medal for the U16 shot put, with a heave of 14.07 metres.
Arthur was not the only member of the Stanat family returning with hardware. His sister, Lexi, was a double silver medalist, in under-14 girls' discus and javelin. Lexi
shattered the meet record in discus for 13 year old females and also finished seventh in shot put.
St. Thomas Legion athletes brought home eight medals, among 18 top 10 results.
The Legion's U16 girls' 4x100-metre relay team of Tayah DeSousa, Lily Francis, Kyra Vellinga and Katherine Heard, took silver.
Vellinga also won a bronze medal in the U16 200-metre hurdles, while Hallee Knelsen was third, in the U16 girls' 800 metre race.

WOODSTOCK, ON. – Arthur Stanat, Lily Francis and the Belanger brothers,
Harrison and Dylen, led St. Thomas Legion, at the Great Lakes League track and field meet two, at College Avenue secondary school. Stanat won the midget boys’ discus (43.85 metres) and hammer throw (34.71m) and placed second, in shot put (14.17m). Dylen Belanger won the midget boys’ 100-metre hurdles in 14.89 seconds, while his brother, Harrison, won the open men’s 2000 metres, in 6:53.9. Harrison was also fifth, in the open men’s 800 metres (2:14.03).
Francis won the midget girls’ 80-metre hurdles (13.17 seconds).
St. Thomas had 14 athletes finish in the top 10.

ST. CATHARINES, ON – Arthur Stanat, Tayah DeSousa and Lily Francis, each brought home silver medals, from the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario outdoor track and field championships, July 13-14, at the Niagara Olympic Complex. Stanat and DeSousa each brought home two silver medals, to lead the St. Thomas Legion contingent, who were competing as members of the District A team.
Stanat placed second in midget boys’ shot put (13.71 metres) and discus (46.89m), while DeSousa finished second in the midget girls’ 80-metre hurdles (12.58 seconds) and long jump (4.96m).
DeSousa was only one centimetre behind long jump champion Julian Adderly and she also finished sixth, in the 200-metre hurdles (29.69 sec.).
Francis placed second in midget girls’ pentathlon, compiling 2,557 points. The five discipline event includes high jump, long jump, shot put, the 80-metre hurdles and the 800 metre run.
Hallee Knelsen finished third in the midget girl’s 1200 metres (3:45.36). Kyra Vellinga was seventh in the 200-metre hurdles (29.71 sec.) and 10th in both the midget girls’ 200 metre dash and 200 metre hurdles.

CAMBRIDGE, ON. – Camryn Roth won the midget girls’ 300 metres, in 44.02 seconds and placed fifth in section two of the open women’s 100-metre dash, leading St. Thomas Legion Club, at meet one of the Great Lakes League track and field season, at Jacob Hespler secondary school. Olivia Krahn finished second, in section one of the open women’s 100 metre dash (13.51 seconds). Earen Klassen had the fourth fastest time overall, in the midget girls’ 300 metres (45.24 sec.). Dylen Belanger, was third, in the midget boys’ 300 metres and fourth, in the 200-metre hurdles, while his brother Harrison, finished third, in the midget boys’ 1200 metres.

ST. THOMAS – Seven members of the St. Thomas Legion Club are heading to the Ontario Summer Games.
AJ Stanat, Hallee Knelsen, Tayah DeSousa, Lily Francis, Kyra Vellinga and brothers Harrison and Dylen Belanger, have been selected to compete in track and field, at TD Stadium, August 2-5.
The event brings together some of the best bantam, midget and para athletes from across the province, divided into two teams, Ontario West and Ontario East.
Hannah McIntyre, of Dorchester, and Allie Humphries, from Thorndale, who both train with London Legion, and Para-athlete Madison Wilson-Walker, from Avon,
are also attending.

TORONTO, ON. – Lily Francis, representing St. Thomas Legion, won the silver medal, in the under 16 girls' pentathlon, at the Athletics Ontario combined events championships, at York Lions Stadium. Francis amassed 2,519 points from the five disciplines. Izzy Goudros won the event with 3,082 points. Francis placed second in the 80-metre hurdles, third, in the 800 metre race, high jump and shot put and fourth in long jump.

All three athletes concluded their respective high school track and field seasons at the OFSAA championships and were in fine form at the Legion District A track and field championships, at Sandwich secondary school, June 16.

ST. THOMAS – St. Thomas Legion had four event winners, at meet four of the Great Lakes League track and field season, at Parkside Collegiate Institute.
Arabella Alton, 19, won open women's high jump, clearing 1.65 metres, Hallee Knelsen was the fastest in the open women's 800 metres (2:24.77), Hayden Bell won the youth boys' 110-metre hurdles and Dylen Belanger, was the best in the bantam boys' 80-metre hurdles. Belanger was also second in his division's 150-metre dash. Camryn Roth finished third in the girls' 150 metre race.

BRAMPTON, ON. – Dylen Belanger,
of the St. Thomas Legion club, won the gold medal, for the bantam boys' 80-metre hurdles race,
in 13.47 seconds, at the Athletics Ontario bantam, midget and youth (BMY) track and field championships, a two day event, held at Terry Fox Stadium.
Harrison Belanger finished third, in the bantam boys 1200 metre race (3.42.79), Kenzie Smyth tied for third spot, in midget girls' high jump (1.50 metres) and Liam Clark was third, in the youth boys' 110-metre hurdles (14.97 sec.). Smyth also placed sixth in both the midget girls' 80-meter hurdles (13.17 sec.) and long jump (3.86m).

WINDSOR, ON. – Hayden Bell, with the St. Thomas Legion track and field club, placed third in the under-17 men's octathlon (eight events), at the Legion Ontario track and field championships, held at Windsor Stadium, July 14/15. Bell amassed 4,702 points, finishing second in long jump (6.02 metres), high jump (1.76m), shot put (10.47m) and the 110-metre hurdles (15.26 seconds), third in javelin (41.15m), 400 metres (55.57 sec.) and fourth in the 100-metre dash (12.49 sec.) and the 1000-metre run (3:07.44). Calum Doherty won the event with 4,828 points.

OTTAWA, ON - Charles Nguyen, of St. Thomas, placed fourth, in senior men's hammer throw (63.69m), at the Canadian track and field championships.
Rebecca Chouinard, of St. Thomas, was sixth, in the Under-20 women's hammer throw (49.16m). Madison Wilson-Walker, from Avon, finished sixth, in the para ambulatory 100-metres (15.79 sec.). Julia Vanhoucke of St. Thomas, was 13th, in the U20 women's 400-metre hurdles. Hunter Smith of St. Thomas, placed 16th, in U20 women's hammer throw.
