High school cross-country begins with six races in Dorchester

DORCHESTER - Petra Salim, of the Central Elgin Titans, had Elgin County and Dorchester's top result, finishing sixth, in the midget girls' race, at the opening meet to the local cross country schedule, at the Dorchester Fairgrounds. All races travelled around the fairgrounds and through a section of Slo-Pitch City.
Schools from London, Sarnia, Stratford, Clinton and Woodstock attended the meet.
Salim placed two spots ahead of East Elgin Eagle Hallee Knelsen and four places up on Dorchester's Avery Rice, who placed 10th. Salim helped the Titan midget girls' team place fourth.
St. Joseph's Kaila Novak placed 10th, in the junior girls' four kilometre race.
At the senior level, East Elgin Eagle Nathaniel Abell, placed seventh in the boys' five kilometre race, while St. Joseph's Kyleigh Stubbs, finished ninth, in the girls' five kilometre race.
Dorchester's junior boys' team placed third, while the midget boys were fourth. The St. Joseph's senior girl's were third and the junior girls, fourth.
The Thames Valley Region Athletics Tri-County (Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford) championships, are at Springwater Conservation Area, October 19.
The Western Ontario (WOSSAA) meet, is at Clinton, October 26.
