TORONTO, Ont. - Ainsley Preszcator is an OFSAA champion.

The East Elgin Eagle captured gold for the 15 years and older girls high school division 100-metre backstroke, at the OFSAA swimming championships, March 5-6 at the Pan Am Sports Complex.

Preszcator won the race in one minute and 10.87 seconds (1:10.87), just over two seconds ahead of second place Avery Routhier (1:13.21).

"It feels really rewarding to be an OFSAA champion," Preszcator said. "Honestly I was just trying to push through those last five metres because I was super dead by that point. I could see a few girls around me and could tell I had a lead. When I touched I was super happy to get that medal because it’s something I've always dreamed of."

It was an all-time best clocking for the Grade 12 student.

"I've been trying to get back to a 1:11 or lower since I was 14, so I am super happy with that time," Preszcator said. "A key moment in the race was probably around the 75 metre mark as that's when I started to pull away from the girls surrounding me and I knew I had a good lead I could build off of."

Ainsley just missed a second medal, finishing fourth in the 100 I.M. (1:14.26).

"I'm super happy with that swim," Ainsley said. "Again it is a life time PB, so it's amazing that I was able to go that time as that was my last race of the day. I knew I was close to the top but I was just running out of energy by the end of that race."

Ainsley's third race at OFSAA was the 200-metre medley relay with Eagles' teammates, sister Brooke, Cadence Neusteter and Megan Sleegers. The team set a PB time of 2:22.40 in the prelims and finished eighth (2:25.56) in the A final.

"Overall we are super happy with our relay. We managed to swim a best time in prelims," Ainlsey said. "It was definitely hard, as it was one of the last events in a long day of racing for all of us. Even though we didn't finish as high, we were still able to score points which helped the senior girls to a sixth place overall team finish."

The Eagles finished sixth in the senior girls high school team scores (193), behind York Mills Collegiate, Burlington Nelson High, Whitby Henry Street, North Toronto CI and Hamilton Holy Trinity.

Brooke Preszcator, finished sixth in the 15 years and older girls high school division 100 back (1:15.29).
