ST. THOMAS - It was the right night to have a best game of the season.

The St. Thomas Jr. Stars are the Shamrock League U12A champions, following a 8-0 shutout of the South Oxford Storm, March 26 at the Joe.

Malcolm Travis scored four times, Ty Thompson, a pair of goals and goalie Briggs Edy the shutout, as the Stars take the final, two games to one.

Thompson, Liam Wall and Carter Gosnell, completed the goal scoring. Brooke Gustavson, Mason Friesen and Hutson Warren, each drew two assists.

"A lot of our players had their best games of the season," Stars' head coach Troy Travis said. "(South Oxford) played a really good (game two), and we played a really good game today. One of our best games of the season. We had our D going and our forwards were on their game too."

Malcolm Travis had St. Thomas up 3-0 by the mid point of the second period, with his natural hat trick.

St. Thomas opened the best of three series, with a 2-0 shutout at home, backstopped by an Edy shutout. Travis and Webber scored, with assists from Gustavson, Gosnell and Matthew Adzija.

South Oxford tied the series, winning game two on their home ice, 7-4. Gustavson had a pair of goals for St. Thomas while Travis and Oscar Moore, a goal and assist each. Gosnell, Adzija and Webber, one assist each.

"It was a do or die game for (South Oxford), so they came out strong," reflected coach Travis on game two. "I was nervous today that they would come out the same way. Fortunately we turned it around and brought our best game. Even when it was 5-0, I was saying on the bench, I'm still not happy. Anyone can come back and I knew that they could score."

St. Thomas finished first in the Alliance League owning a 22-2-0 record, with South Oxford right on their heels in second place, with a 21-3-0 record. The Jr. Stars are 56-6-4 overall, including a tournament win in Tillsonburg, home of the Storm.

"We usually can roll our lines. All three lines. All six D. Both goalies play every other game," coach Travis said. "I feel we can wear the other team out because we keep rolling all 15 skaters. That's been a real strength for us."

St. Thomas advances to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association U12A championship, April 4-6 in Whitby. The Jr. Stars open taking on Orangeville and Woolwich on day one, followed by game three of pool play against host Whitby on day two.
