Broderick silver at U16 Canadians

ST. THOMAS - Prince Edward Island is becoming Cassidy Broderick's favourite province to visit and it has nothing to do with the point to point tour, potatoes, or Anne of Green Gables. For the second year in a row, Cassidy played on Team Ontario at the Canadian 16U girls baseball championship. This year the 16-year old from St. Thomas brought home a silver medal, from the National tournament.

Mendham makes pro baseball debut with Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont. - David Mendham has signed his first professional contact with the Ottawa Titans of the independent Frontier League. The Dorchester native made his pro baseball debut Wednesday in a double-header against the Tri-City Valley Cats.
Mendham went hitless in five at bats, but drew one walk, over the two games, both Ottawa losses. The 24-year old is coming off his senior collegiate season with the NCAA Division 1 Okalahoma State Cowboys in which he led the team with 77 hits in 61 games. Mendham hit .312 with 14 home runs, 18 doubles and 64 RBIs.

Mendham hits 12th homer

STILLWATER, OK. - David Mendham his 12th home run of the season and scored twice, as his Okalahoma State Cowboys beat East Tennessee State, 7-4 Friday in NCAA Division One baseball. The senior from Dorcehster is batting .289 with 54 hits, including 12 home runs and 12 doubles, 45 RBIs and 42 runs scored, in 45 games played.

Freshman McKay hits fifth homer

KANKAKEE, IL. - Curtis McKay hit home run five as his Kankakee Cavaliers edges Rock Valley, 7-6, in National Junior College Athletic Assocaition (NJCAA) baseball Friday. The freshman from Dorchester is batting .261 over 34 games played, with 29 hits, including five homers, one triple and six doubles. McKay also has 23 RBI, 27 runs scored and nine stolen bases.

Four RBI game for Mendham

LAWRENCE, KS. - David Mendham drove in four runs, with a homer and double and scored three times, leading the Okalahoma State Cowboys to a 15-10 win Friday against the Kansas Jayhawks in NCAA Division One baseball. The senior from Dorchester is batting .296 with 48 hits, including 11 home runs and 11 doubles, 38 RBIs and 37 runs scored, in 39 games played. Mendham also went three-for-five, with a home run and a double and five RBI, versus Okalahoma University April 18.

Mosher hits second home run

DAVENPORT, FL. - Tyler Mosher, of Dutton, hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth innig, for the Davenport University Panthers, during a 15-11 win against Ashland in NCAA Division II baseball Friday. Mosher, a junior second baseman, is batting .258, with six RBIs and two home runs over 12 games. Davenport is 5-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Pettipiece three hit shutout for first win

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Eric Pettipiece, a junior with Goshan College baseball, tossed a three hitter while striking out 11 batters in a seven inning 7-0 shutout of Brescia University Saturday. The Dorchester native didn't allow a base runner until the fifth inning and only walked on batter in his first win of the season. Goshan is 2-6 in the Crossroad League conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). For the season, Pettipiece has an earned run average (ERA) of 4.05 with 22 strikeouts and five walks.

Broderick makes U16 Team Ontario baseball

ST. THOMAS - Five years ago Cassidy Broderick was active in basketball, soccer and dance. One evening at a friend's home, Broderick started hitting baseballs off of a tee. From never touching a baseball, a love for the game consumed her and Broderick joined the St. Thomas Cardinals for the 2018 season. This summer, just four years into her career, the 14-year old was named to Team Ontario, for the Canadian 16U girls baseball championship, in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, August 25-28.

Mosher on GLIAC all-tourney team

HAMMOND, Ind. - Tyler Mosher and the Davenport Panthers repeated as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) baseball champions.
Davenport beat Purdue Northwest twice in the final, 6-4 and 2-1, to win the title. The Panthers had lose to Purdue to open the tournament Friday. Mosher was named to the All-tournament team at second base.
The Dutton native has at least one RBI in the first three games of the tournament. Mosher hit his first collegiate home run during a 12-8 win over Saginaw Valley.

Mendham helps OSU baseball sweep Texas

AUSTIN, Texas. - David Mendham had a pair of two-RBI, two-run games, as the Oklahoma State Cowboys swept a three game series against Texas, in NCAA baseball, this weekend. The Dorchester native batting .291, with 31 RBIs, this season, punched out four ribbies in wins over Texas, Friday and Saturday. Today, Mendham went one-for-four with a walk and again scored two runs, in a 10-8 win.

Mendham punches out pair of two-run doubles

STILLWATER, Okla. - David Mendham had a pair of two-run doubles, as Oklahoma State University (OSU) thumped Seton Hall, 11-1, tonight in NCAA baseball. The junior from Dorchester finished two-for-four with one base on balls.
Mendham is hitting .231, with 14 RBIs and nine walks. OSU, ranked 11th in D1, is 12-6 overall, but as yet to begin their Big 12 conference schedule.

Niles delivers two RBIs two hits scores twice

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Josh Niles continued his hot bat with the Canisius College Golden Griffins men's baseball team. The St. Thomas native, drove in two runs, with a single and double and scored twice, as Canisius defeated Morehead State, 6-2.
Niles improved his batting average to .300 this season, with seven RBIs.

Niles has first multi RBI game of collegiate career

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Josh Niles had his first multi RBI game of his collegiate career, today, with the Canisius College Golden Griffins men's baseball team. The redshirt freshman from St. Thomas, had a pair of RBI singles and knocked in a third run, on a sac fly, as Canisius defeated Morehead State, 11-4. Niles is batting .273, with five RBIs over three game appearances. Canisius is 3-2 overall this season.

McKay bringing winning baseball ways to Kankakee College

DORCHESTER, Ont. - Curtis McKay is taking his resume full of baseball championships to the prairie state. The Dorchester native is heading to Kankakee Community College (KCC), in Kankakee, Illinois, just south of Chicago, to continue his education and baseball career. McKay attended Lord Dorchester for Grades nine and 10, before transferring to London CCH for Grades 11 and 12.

Mendham named to Oklahoma State honour roll

STILLWATER, OK. - David Mendham has been named to the Oklahoma State university President's honour roll, with a 4.0 grade-point average. The Dorchester native is majoring in university studies.
Mendham, a first baseman / catcher, played 54 games for South Carolina in 2021, after two seasons at Connors State community college.

Ambrogio goes the distance for Brock

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. - Connor Ambrogio tossed a complete game five hitter, as the Brock University Badgers opened the Ontario University Association (OUA) baseball regionals, with a 4-1 win against MacMaster.
The third-year Sport Management student from Dorchester, allowed no earned runs over nine innings, striking out six batters and walking one. Ambrogio was named Brock University's male athlete of the week ending October 10.

Ambrogio tosses complete game four hitter for Brock

LONDON, Ont. - Connor Ambrogio, of Dorchester, tossed a complete game four hitter as Brock University dumped Western University, 10-3, in their season opener to the Ontario University Association schedule. Ambrogio worked seven innings, allowing three runs, only one earned, while striking out eight batters and walking one.

Niles drives in two in Hamilton win

BRANTFORD, Ont. - Josh Niles, of St. Thomas, had two RBIs in the Hamilton Cardinals' 9-1 win over the Barrie Baycats, in Intercounty Baseball League action tonight. Niles opened the scoring with a RBI double and later knocked in a run with a sac fly. The Cardinals' infielder has seven RBI for the season, tied for second most on the team.

BRANTFORD, Ont. - Josh Niles, of St. Thomas, had the Hamilton Cardinals' Performance of the Game for his contribution against the Brantford Red Sox, in Intercounty Baseball League action. Niles went one-for-three, with two RBIs, had a sac fly and reached base on an error. Brantford won 7-5.

Mendham joins Anglers in Cape Cod League

CHATHAM, Mass. - Dorchester's David Mendham made his debut for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League last night. Activated earlier in the day on Tuesday, Mendham had a two-out double in his first at-bat for Chatham, in a 8-1 loss to Falmouth. Mendham played his junior year of collegiate baseball at South Carolina, following two years at Connors State.
In his first season with the Gamecocks, Mendham hit .243 over 54 games, with five homers, nine doubles and 28 RBIs. South Carolina finished with a 34-23 overall record and had their playoff run end in the NCAA regionals.

Mosher's baseball season ends in regional final

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Tyler Mosher and his Davenport Panthers were left one win away from the NCAA Division II tournament. Davenport was edged 11-9, by Trevecca Nazarene University, from Nashville Tennessee, today, in the final of the Midwest regional men's baseball tournament. The Panthers showed they were a resilient ball club, rallying from down 9-1, in the third inning to tie by the eighth inning.
Trevecca scored twice in the top of the eighth and held on to punch their ticket to the Division II championship, in Cary, North Carolina, June 5-12.
Davenport lost their opening game in the double knockout tournament to Lindenwood on Friday, before defeating Northwood and Quincy to advance to the final. The Panthers beat the Trojans, 6-2, to force a second game in the final.

Mosher's Davenport Panthers win GLIAC playoff tournament

LANSING, Mich. - Tyler Mosher is a league champion. Mosher and his Davenport Panther teammates won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's baseball championship, taking care of Grand Valley State, 9-1, in the final. Davenport beat Saginaw Valley State, Northwood and Ashland to advance to title game. The Dutton native attended West Elgin Secondary School and is in his freshman year majoring in accounting, at the university in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Davenport begins their NCAA Division II Midwest Regional against Lindenwood University, Friday, May 28, in St. Charles, Missouri.

Mendham lifts South Carolina to 11th inning win

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Dorchester's David Mendham delivered a game winning double in the home half of the 11th inning, lifting South Carolina over fourth ranked Mississippi State, 4-3, in NCAA baseball today.
In the line-up as the designated hitter, Mendham opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning. South Carolina, ranked 19th in the NCAA, improves to 28-17.
Mendham is hitting .253 with five homers, right doubles and 25 RBIs over 44 games this season.

South Carolina takes one game from top ranked Arkansas

COLUMBIA, S.C. - It was a battle against the top ranked men's baseball team in the NCAA for Dorchester's David Mendham. His South Carolina Gamecocks, ranked 11th coming into the series, took one of three games from the Arkansas Razorbacks, winning the first game of a double-header today. South Carolina's 6-2 win was sandwich by a pair of Arkansas victories, 6-1, Thursday and 5-1, tonight. Mendham went two-for-10 and drew a pair of walks over the three games. He also made a superb defensive play, stretching to catch a throw from the second baseman for an out in the 6-2 win. The first baseman is batting .273 on the season, with 22 RBIs and four home runs.

Mendham's bomb helps Carolina sweep

BATON ROUGE, La. - David Mendham launched his fourth home run of the season, a two-run bomb to open the scoring in the first inning, as South Carolina pasted Louisiana State, 9-0, in NCAA baseball.
The Dorchester native helped the Gamecocks take both games of the double-header, winning game one earlier today, 4-2. Mendham went two-for-three, with a run scored. South Carolina, ranked 11th in the NCAA, sits third in the SouthEastern Conference (SEC), at 10-5, behind first place Vanderbilt (10-3) and Tennessee (9-4).  The Gamecocks host top ranked Arkansas for three games, starting April 22.

Mendham belts third homer

COLUMBIA, S.C. - David Mendham belted his third home run of the season, driving a 3-2 pitch down the left field line, as South Carolina shutout Charleston Southern, 9-0 tonight.
The Dorchester native finished the game three for five, including his seventh double of the season. Two days earlier on Sunday, Mendham helped South Carolina improve to 21-9, beating Missouri, 13-4, chipping in with a two run single and sac fly RBI.
The South Carolina first baseman is batting .266, with 20 RBIs this season.

Dutton's Mosher makes freshman season debut with Davenport

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Tyler Mosher made his debut with the Davenport Panthers' baseball team this past weekend.
The Dutton native who attended West Elgin Secondary School, is in his freshman year, majoring in accounting, at the NCAA Division II university in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Mosher went one for three, a RBI single and was hit by a pitch, in his first game, a win over Ashland University, April 9. Mosher was also caught stealing. Playing second, Mosher had three putouts and two assists.
Following two hitless games (0-for-5, with one base on balls) on April 10, Mosher was one-for-two, during a win against Ashland, April 11.
Mosher played with the Great Lake Canadians, batting .328 over three seasons.
The Davenport Panthers play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Teams are located throughout the states of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Mendham delivers three-run bomb in loss

ATHENS, Ga. - Dorchester's David Mendham homered to left field giving South Carolina a 3-0 lead in top of the fourth inning.
But Georgia rallied to take the NCAA South Eastern Conference (SEC) game, 5-3, Friday night. Georgia replied with a run in the home half of the fourth, two in the sixth inning and one run, in each of the seventh and eighth innings.
Mendham is hitting .268 with 15 RBIs. The first baseman has two home runs, four doubles and has walked 11 times.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - In South Carolina's 9-4 win over Gardner-Webb University, first baseman David Mendham, of Dorchester, chipped in with a single, double and a RBI on a sac fly. Mendham is batting .357 over the past three games, all wins for South Carolina. This season, Mendham is hitting .269 with 12 RBIs.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - It took 14 innings, but Dorchester's David Mendham and his South Carolina Gamecocks teammates edged fifth ranked Florida Gators, 9-8, in NCAA SEC action late Friday, scoring twice in the home half.
Mendham had a double and single in the game. The junior is batting .254 for the season, with 11 RBIs.

Mendham helps come back to stop skid

AUSTIN, Texas. - Dorchester's David Mendham delivered a pair of singles helping South Carolina University (12-6) come back to edge number two ranked Vanderbilt (15-3), 6-5, in NCAA baseball. The win snapped South Carolina's six game slide, including being no hit by Vanderbilt's Jack Leiter on Saturday. Mendham is hitting .262 with 11 RBIs.

Josh Niles begins NCAA baseball career

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Josh Niles, of St. Thomas, begins his NCAA baseball career this weekend with the Canisius College Golden Griffins. The division one private school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), has a double-header against Fairfield University, Saturday and Sunday. Niles, a graduate of St. Joseph's high school, is majoring in sport and exercise healthcare. The 18-year old hit .350 over five years with the Great Lake Canadians. He was the Hitter of the Year in 2018 and 2019 and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.

Tough weekend for Mendham's South Carolina

AUSTIN, Texas. - It was a tough past three days for David Mendham, of Dorchester, and the previouly undefeated University of South Carolina (11-3) in NCAA men's Divison One baseball. The Texas Longhorns swept a triple-header, outscoring South Carolina, 15-6, over the three games, including today's 8-5 win. Mendham was hitless in seven at bats this series, seeing his average drop to .250. The 21-year old is currently in a 0-for-12 slump, with eight strikeouts. Mendham remains tied for third in team RBIs.

Mendham has a three for five night

GREENVILLE, S.C. - David Mendham, of Dorchester, batted three-for-five, as the South Carolina Gamecocks edge in-state rival Clemson, 3-2, in 11 innings, in NCAA Division One baseball. South Carolina is 5-0, with Mendham batting nine for 23.
The teams meet again Sunday. Their Friday appearance was cancelled due to weather.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - David Mendham goes two-for-five, including an eighth inning solo bomb and scores three runs, as the South Carolina Gamecocks destroy Winthrop Eagles, 12-4, in NCAA Division One baseball.
South Carolina is 4-0, with Mendham batting six for 18.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Dorchester's David Mendham had two hits and four RBI in the University of South Carolina's 5-1 win over Dayton today in NCAA baseball. The Gamecocks' first baseman opened the scoring with a sac fly in the third inning, before delivering the knockout punch, an eighth inning base clearing double. South Carolina is 3-0 and Mendham is four for 13 at the dish.

Dorchester's Mendham is Canadian Baseball's player of the year

DORCHESTER, ON. - David Mendham is Canadian Baseball Network’s 2020 Canadian college player of the year. The six-foot three native of Dorchester received 54 of the 62 first place votes, from ballots cast by a CBN panel. Mendham was also named to CBN’s all-Canadian team at third base. During a spring season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the left-handed hitting sophomore batted .493 with 36 hits and 26 RBIs in 21 games for the Connors State Cowboys, a division one college, in Warner, Okla.

Cardinals capture ICBA Loop A 12U title

ST. THOMAS - Tayven Barned, Luke Thomas and Aaron Dyke, each drove in two runs to lead the St. Thomas Cardinals to a 7-4 win over the Brantford Jr. Red Sox, in the ICBA bracket A 12U final, at the Tarry Complex. Barned also starred on the mound, tossing a one hit shutout over four innings, striking out nine batters and walking three.

ST. THOMAS - A first place finish allows the St. Thomas Cardinals to host the 12U playoffs. The Cardinals wrapped up their exhibition schedule, finishing at 8-2, defeating Brantford on the road, before splitting a double-header with Hamilton, at the Tarry Complex on Saturday. St. Thomas will host their semifinal, Friday, September 4th, at 7 p.m.

Barned leads 12U Cardinals

ST. THOMAS - Thanks to a pair of 10 run games, the St. Thomas Cardinals' U12 team has improved to 6-1 for the season. Tayven Barned belted a home run and added a single, collecting four RBI, to lead the Cardinals to a 10-5 win in game one against the Brantford Jr. Red Sox. Barned tossed a shut out in game two, a 10-0 mercy win in five innings. Barned whiffed 10 batters, while allowing three hits and one base on ball.

12U Cardinals take twin bill from Cambridge

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals improved to 4-1 with a pair of wins over the Cambridge Cubs in 12U minor baseball exhibition play, at the Tarry Complex. In a shortened season due to COVID-19, St. Thomas is having exhibition double-headers with Cambridge, Brantford and Hamiltion throughout the month of August.

Keyframe and Formet rout way to STMBA house league titles

ST. THOMAS - Neither Keyframe Communications nor Formet Industries wasted time capturing their respective St. Thomas Minor Baseball house league championship.
Keyframe completed a sweep of both the regular season and playoff peewee titles, defeating Centennial Sports Club, 13-2, in a five inning mercy, in the final.
In the mosquito final, Formet also needed just five innings to take care of Centennial Sports Club, 16-4.

Dorchester's Evan Burns hits for a natural cycle

DORCHESTER - Evan Burns had a ball game to remember. The 15-year old pitcher and third baseman from Dorchester, hit for the cycle for the 16U London Badgers, during an exhibition tilt against the Tecumseh Thunder, August 11th, in Tecumseh. A sixth inning grand slam completed the cycle in a 20-6 win, with Burns delivering 10 RBIs in the game.

Yurek takes an all St. Thomas 18U House League final

ST. THOMAS -  St. Thomas had the monopoly on the London and District Baseball Association (LDBA) 18U midget house league championship. It was an all St. Thomas Cardinals final, as Yurek Pharmacy silenced Dowler-Karn, 15-0, after four innings, at Emslie Field. Collin Banman pitched four perfect innings on just 43 pitches for the win.

ST. THOMAS -  Jaxon Somerville delivered a walk-off single, to lift Millcreek Plumbing over Snip-its, 6-5, in the St. Thomas Minor Baseball junior rookie ball final, at the Centennial diamonds. In the senior rookie ball final, Streib Trucking held off Geerlinks Home Hardware, 7-6.

Cambridge edges Brampton for OBA 13U Elims title

ST. THOMAS -  The Cambridge Cubs are Baseball Ontario's 13U provincial champions, holding off the Brampton Royals, 6-5, in the final, Sunday night at the Tarry Complex.
Cambridge led 6-2 early, before Brampton scored two runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh. The Royals stranded the tying run on second base and potential winning run on first.
In the semifinals, Brampton came back to defeat the London Badgers, 10-9, walking off the game in the bottom of the seventh. Cambridge edged the Whitby Wolves, 5-4.
Both teams advance to the 13U National championship, in Repentigny (Montreal), Québec, August 22-25th.

Astros swat Stingers in OBA major Mosquito C final

DORCHESTER, ON -  Midway through the Ontario Baseball major mosquito C final, Mitchell Astros’ pitcher Dominic Marshall swatted then stepped on a bee that was flying around him. It may have been a sign. Heading into the seventh inning, Mitchell led 9-4, but the Beamsville Stingers came out buzzing, scoring four runs and moving the potential equalizer to third base. But similar to that bee, Marshall had the final move, forcing a ground out to first base to end the game, in favour of the Astros, 9-8. Mitchell went 6-0 winning the 12-team tournament.

Dorchester eliminated at OBA major mosquito tourney

DORCHESTER, ON. -  The Dorchester Diamondbacks' run was held up by the Saugeen River Bandits, losing 15-13, at the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) major mosquito C championship.
The D-Backs finish at 2-2. Dorchester opened the 12-team double knockout tournament with a 15-0 loss to Listowel, before winning one run games over both Essex and Amherstburg.
The Aylmer Pirates, the second local team, lost back to back to Saugeen and Amherstburg. Saugeen, Ingersoll, Beamsville, each with one loss and the undefeated Mitchell Astros, are the four teams seeing action Sunday.

Local teams open OBA tournament with losses

DORCHESTER, ON. -  Both the Dorchester Diamondbacks and the Aylmer Pirates had rough starts to the Ontario Baseball Assocation major mosquito C double knockout tournament. The host team was blanked 16-0 by the Listowel Legionnaires, while Aylmer dropped their opener to the Saugeen River Cats, 12-2. The Ingersoll Ironbirds, Beamsville Stingers, Mitchell Astros and Uxbridge Grizzlies, all opened with wins.

Dorchester's run ends early at OBA minor mosquito provincials

DORCHESTER -  Teams from Dorchester are at their respective Ontario Baseball Association provincial tournaments this weekend. The Woodslee O's eliminated the Dorchester Diamondbacks, at the minor mosquito B provincials. Dorchester's minor peewee team went 1-2.

Pitchers deliver Dorchester a major mosquito Slam title

DORCHESTER -  Led by a six hit, 13 strikeout combined performance by pitchers Colin Langstaff and Ryker Daniel, the Dorchester Diamondbacks defeated the North Toronto A's, 7-2, in the major mosquito final, at the Dorchester Summer Slam baseball tournament. Langstaff went four innings, striking out seven batters, while Daniel sat down six batters over three innings.
North Toronto opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Dorchester cut the deficit in half in the third inning, before pulling ahead 3-2 in the fourth. The Diamondbacks took control with a three run fifth inning and then tacked on a run in the seventh.

Dorchester opens Summer Slam with a rout

DORCHESTER -  The Dorchester Diamondbacks won their opening game, at the Summer Slam tournament, minor mosquito division, crushing Oshawa, 26-4. The event goes today to Sunday, with teams from far away as Toronto and Mt. Forest

Ivy stings Mississauga for Ontario mosquito title

DORCHESTER -  They weren't quite poison ivy with no one wanting to touch, but for the Ivy Leafs, no one could touch them on the diamond. The Ivy Leafs ran the table on their way to a Select Ontario Baseball Association mosquito provincial title.
