ST. THOMAS - The Parkside Stampeders are back to back SouthEast AA junior girls volleyball champs.
Parkside successfully defended the crown, dusting cross town rivals St. Joe's Rams in three games (25-23, 25-13, 25-21), in the AA final, Wednesday at Parkside CI.
"Today we had amazing offence," Parkside co-captain Cararah Perry said. "Usually we have good offense, but today it was off the charts, especially with Sophia (Testa). She killed a million balls in that last set. She went to town."
This victory caps another undefeated run through the South-East season. The Stampeders finished the regular season spotless, not losing a game over eight matches (24-0).
"Our serve is just as important," added Perry. "We go on these long runs and it's hard for the other team to catch up. Serve tough. Serve in."
After sweeping the East Elgin Eagles in the quarterfinals, the Stampeders did drop their first game, in the semifinals today against Ingersoll.
Parkside took the first two games, before losing the third one, 25-21. The Stampeders responded hitting Ingersoll, 25-12, in game four.
"It helps that we all click really well," said Perry. "We know we have the support of our teammates and you know you can rely on your teammates if you're having a rough day. It builds the strength of the entire team."
The Rams downed the Dorchester Beavers, three games to none, in their semifinal.
Both Parkside and St. Joe's advance to WOSSAA, Thursday, February 20, at St. Mike's high school in Stratford.
The Stampeders also are the reigning WOSSAA champs.
"The biggest thing, even in practice, is to work on passing, serve and serve receive," co-captin Emilee Mrozowski said. "That's our biggest thing, because without those you can't run an offence. We have some big hitters who can't hit the ball, but without a pass we can't get that started."
Host St. Mike's (9-1) from Huron-Perth and London Oakridge (9-1), from the TVRA Central division, complete the field.
