BRAMPTON, Ont. - Jaimie Staulbaum, of Aylmer, made her Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) debut on the hard court. Staulbaum scored six points, grabbed two rebounds and had a block and one assist, helping the Fanshawe Falcons win their women's basketball season opener, defeating Sheridan, 86-54. The 2023 graduate of East Elgin secondary school, was limited in playing time due recovering from an ankle injury.

BARRIE, Ont. - Lily Roberts-Neef was named player of the game, leading the Georgian Grizzlies to a 92-69 win over Sheridan, Thursday in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's basketball. Roberts-Neef scored 26 points, shooting 10 for 16 from the field, including four for six on three point shots. The St. Thomas native also had three rebounds, three steals and three assists.

LONDON, Ont. - Ellery Beilhartz, of Aylmer, a forward with the London Ramblers, earned a Juel League All-Academic award, at the provincial junior basketball league's recent year end banquet. The award recognizes players with the highest class averages at school. Beilhartz, heading into Grade 12 student at East Elgin secondary school, was a co-captain of the Eagles team that advanced to OFSAA AA basketball in November. For the summer, Beilhartz will be playing for Become One London, a showcase U17 basketball team in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), playing in the United States. Emily Chapman, of St. Thomas, also has been selected for Become One London.

LONDON, ON. - It was a battle for a spot at OFSAA. The London John Paul II Jaguars, undefeated through the District season and Central Elgin Titans, perfect in the South-East, with a 9-0 record. As the final buzzer sounded, the Jaguars squeezed by the Titans, 48-45, in the WOSSAA AA senior boys basketball final, at South Collegiate. Jack Tunstill led the Titans with 19 points, while Devin Carvery had 12 points and Isaiah MacDougall, nine.44-kg).

The Mother Teresa Spartans, out of London, downed the Eagles, 43-24, at the WOSSAA AA senior girls’ basketball gold medal game, at South Collegiate. Wingham Madill sunk the only basket in overtime to edge the East Elgin Eagles, 33-32, in the WOSSAA AA junior girls’ bronze medal game.

GODERICH, ON. - Annika Nolte and Sydney Champion led the offence as the Dorchester Beavers sunk the Goderich Vikings, 63-33, in the WOSSAA single-A junior girls' basketball final, at Goderich DCI.
Dorchester advanced to the final routing London Westminster, 45-14.
At South Huron District, in Exeter, London Christian defeated Dorchester, 42-33, in the WOSSAA single-A senior girls' final.

AYLMER, ON. - Sisters Alyssa and Kayla Voros have never been to WOSSAA basketball together and neither have played at the senior level. That is about to change after the East Elgin Eagles defeated the Woodstock Huron Park Huskies, 57-37, in the Thames Valley Regional Athletics South-East AA senior girls’ final, at East Elgin Secondary School. Kayla Voros scored a game high 16 points and Jos Henderson had 14 points.

DORCHESTER, ON. - It took three quarters for the Lord Dorchester Beavers to come alive, but the senior girls' basketball team did enough to extend their season. LONDON, ON. - The St. Thomas Shock brought home the silver medal from the under-12 boys Ontario Cup basketball championship. The Durham / Karwartha (DK) Dragons won the gold, defeating St. Thomas, 35-19, in the final, Sunday, at Westminster Secondary school. St. Thomas finished second in their pool, before upending the 3-0 Thornhill Thunder, 38-33, in the semifinals.

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Shock are under-12 girls' Ontario Cup Division Five champions. The Shock finished 5-0 and defence carried the Shock to a 40-29 comeback win over the Milton Stags, in the final, at St. Catharines, April 7th.

ST. THOMAS - Move over March Madness. This Ontario Cup gold medal game had everything one hopes to see during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
A big comeback, players diving on the floor for the ball, an intense back and forth battle, with the decision going down to the dying seconds of the contest.
The only part the St. Thomas Shock would have changed is the outcome.
After seeing an 18-point lead vanish, the Guelph Gryphons held on to edge the Shock, 44-43, in the under-10 (Novice) boys Division eight final, at St. Joe’s high school. Matteo Thomas led the Shock with 13 points. Jack Moore had eight points, Tyler Titchner, seven and Cam Renaud and Mason, four each.

Instead of being put down, the Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs galloped to the gold medal, at Thames Valley District School Board Valley girls' basketball championship, defeating London Northridge, 25-15, in the AAA final, Saturday, at Oakridge Secondary School.

ST. THOMAS - A lot of it during practice has helped the Central Elgin Titans run to WOSSAA. The Titans capped an undefeated season in the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) region, by winning the South-East single-A junior boys’ basketball final, dumping the Dorchester Beavers, 60-47, on home court at Central Elgin CI.
Jordan McDougall and Jack Tunstill led the Titans with 17 and 16 points respectively, while Gavin Barnhouse and Dilliard, both chipped in with eight points and Christian Vecchio had seven.
Dorchester's Owen Pink and Andrew Muir both scored a game high 18 points, accounting for 77 percent of their team’s offence.
The WCI Red Devils captured the TVRA South-East 1A senior boys’ basketball title, edging the Central Elgin Titans, 60-54, in the final.

ST. THOMAS - A third quarter surge lifted the Central Elgin Titans past the Dorchester Beavers, 47-33, in a Thames Valley Regional Athletics South-East 1A senior boys' basketball semifinal, at CECI.
The Titans will host the South-East 1A final, taking on the Woodstock C.I. (WCI) Red Devils, for a berth in the WOSSAA tournament. Trailing the Beavers, 15-14 at half, the Titans outscored their East Division visitors 22-14 in the third frame.
Cole Verhulst delivered eight of his 12 points in the third stanza, while the Titans hit six of eight shots from the charity stripe.
In South-East junior semifinal action, the Titans dropped WCI, 53-37.

Owen Pink scored 60 points over the four wins, while Charlie Quance had 50 points and Andrew Muir, 36.

LONDON, ON. - Jack Tunstill scored 19 points and was named an all-star, leading the Central Elgin Titans over London Mother Teresa, 56-39, in the third place game in the Junior Division, at the Western University annual Purple and White boys’ basketball tournament. In Central Elgin’s opener, Tunstill poured in 22 points in a 51-47 defeat of London Lucas. In round two, Chatham Ursuline beat CECI, 52-40. The junior championship final saw Mississauga Xavier defeat Ursuline, 60-47.

LONDON, ON. - The St. Joseph’s Rams won the consolation title,
at the Western University annual Purple and White boys’ basketball tournament, dumping Woodstock College Avenue, 62-47, led by 18 points from their tournament all-star, Owen Waterhouse. St. Joe’s lost their opening game to Ursuline, before edging Lucas, 49-47, thanks to 19 points from Tyson Dryflout.
In the senior division Xavier defeated Windsor Kennedy for the championship title.
St. Joseph’s went 1-2 in the 16-team event, finishing with a 62-49 win over Totenham STA, led by Redmond Cunanan’s 19 points. The Rams lost to Barrie St. Joe’s, 59-43, in the opening round, before being edged by Tecumseh St. Anne’s, 40-39.

THOMAS - Isiaih MacDougall scored eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, as the Central Elgin Titans rebounded from a huge Parkside Stampeders' comeback, for a 56-50 win, in TVRA South Division senior boys' basketball, at Central Elgin C.I. The Titans led 27-17 at half and were leading 44-26, before the Stampeders sat up straight in the saddle. A 14-0 run in the fourth quarter tied the game at 50. MacDougall finished with 22 points, while Cole Verhulst had 17 points. Colby Latella led Parkside with 19 points and Christian Coombes added 10.

DORCHESTER - Early deficits doomed both of the Lord Dorchester Beavers' junior and senior boys' basketball teams against Woodstock C.I., in Thames Valley Regional Athletics action.
The senior Beavers trailed by 26 points before pulling themselves back to within eight points, but fell 74-60. Owen Pink and Garrett Snyders led LDSS with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
In the junior tilt, the Beavers only found eight points in the first half, before discovering 28 second half points, in a 40-36 defeat. Johnny Ledgeley and Owen Pink had nine and eights, respectively.

DORCHESTER - Lord Dorchester Beavers' basketball opened their Thames Valley Regional Athletics season by defeating Ingersoll in both the junior and senior games. Garrett Snyders scored 27 points, leading the Beavers to a 59-44 win in senior action. Maaz Iqbal chipped in with 10 points. The Beavers hit 11 triples in the game. In the junior match-up, Owen Pink dropped 28 points as the Beavers dumped Ingersoll, 55-38. Charlie Quas the Ironman award after playing in both of the Beavers' games.

LONDON, ON - Sherah Kuipe A nearly two decade long drought is over. The Central Elgin Titans are WOSSAA 1A junior girls’ basketball champions, following dominating victories over host London District Christian and the Mitchell District Blue Devils. A balance offensive attack carried the Titans in the gold medal game, with a 47-12 win over Mitchell. Sherah Kuiper led the Titans with 11 points while Kiki Wilson and Faith DeVries, had 10 and eight points, respectively. Aya Zebrian, Camryn Roth and Tori Baker, each chipped in with six points. It is CECI’s first junior girls’ WOSSAA title for basketball since 1999, when Allie Hobbs, Maggie Morrison, Martha Aristone, Brit MacDonald and Kelly Metcalf, were wearing the gold and black.

LONDON, ON. - The St. Thomas Shock avenged an earlier loss to win the novice boys' gold medal medal in Division 11, at the Ontario Cup provincial basketball championships. The Shock defeated Sarnia Valhalla, 22-12, in the final, after losing to the same team, earlier in the tournament during pool play.

LONDON, ON. - The Summers' Corners Sabres are golden again. Led by 16 points from both Joslynn Henderson and Julie Nagelhout, the Sabres repeated as Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) elementary AAA girls' basketball champions, dumping Princess Anne, 46-11, in the championship final, at Westminster high school. Summers' Corners jumped out to a 14-2 lead, but the game remained close at half-time, with an 18-8 score. A Sabres' 16-0 run, to start the second half, killed Princess Anne.

LONDON, ON - The Forest Park Firebirds ended the season with a victory. It was not a medal, but Forest Park brought home the won the consolation title from the TVDSB elementary AA boys' basketball finals, defeating the Tillsonburg Southridge Royals, 39-22. The Firebirds went 2-1 at the Valley championships, a week after capturing the SouthWest regional single-A title, defeating Elgin Court in the final.

LONDON, ON - Six Elgin County schools are competing at the TVDSB elementary basketball finals today and Saturday, at various locations. The Mitchell Hepburn Mustangs take on London Princess Anne, in a girls' AAA semifinal Saturday. The Mustangs are 2-0, including defeating Parkview, 27-19, in their opener. The Summer's Corners Sabres are also 2-0 and face London Northridge in their girls' AAA semifinal. The June Callwood Cobras face London Lord Roberts in the AA consolation final. On the boys' side, the Forest Park Firebirds were edged 32-28 by London Sherwood Fox, in their AA opener, but regrouped to defeat Woodstock Roch Carrier, 30-28. Forest Park plays Tillsonburg Southridge, in the consolation final. In AAA action, the Southwold Cougars and Locke's Lions, both lost their first two games and were eliminated.

The Beavers shot out of the chute for an early lead and never looked back, on way to a 50-36 win over London Westminster, in the gold medal game, at the WOSSAA 1A tournament, at Monseigneur Bruyere school. Shortly following tip-off, the Beavers led 10-4. Powered by an offensive attack involving multiple players, LDSS was in command by half-time, up 24-12. Charles Quance led the way with 16 points, while Garrett Snyders had 13.

ST. THOMAS - It will forever be remembered as 'the shot' around Mitchell Hepburn school. Lily Ryder hitting a basket with no time remaining, to send the Thames Valley District School Board South-West girls' AA basketball final into overtime, where the Mustangs pull out a 30-28 win over the Summers' Corners Sabres. Down 26-24, after the Sabres scored with 11.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Ryder had the ball along the sidelines, opposite the team benches just inside the Sabres' defensive zone. Mitchell Hepburn advances to the TVDSB final tournament, Saturday, March 3. The June Rose Cobras beat New Sarum, in the SouthWest girls' single-A final. In boys' action, the Southwold Cougars won the SouthWest AA title, with a buzzer beating shot of their own, to edge the Lockes' Lions. The single-A final featured Forest Park taking on Elgin Court.

ST. THOMAS – The St. Joseph’s Rams were left broken hearted and it had nothing to do with Valentine’s Day. Following a first place finish in the London District league, the Rams’ season came to an abrupt end, crushed like a crumpled up rose, after being upended by the London John Paul Jaguars, 55-51, in a senior boys’ basketball semi-final, at St. Joseph’s high school. The Rams shot three for 23 from three point land. Mykal Donald had a game high 22 points for the Rams.

ST. THOMAS – The Peter Braun picked a perfect time to have his game of the year. The East Elgin Eagle dropped 25 points against the Central Elgin Titans, during a 57-39 win, to advance from the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South-East AA senior boys basketball quarter-final, at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute. Braun opened up in the second quarter, with 19 of his points, including a string of five consecutive three-pointers. When Braun was done raining threes on the Titans, a modest 12-9 Eagles' lead had turned it into a commanding 15 point advantage.

An offensive push late in the third quarter put the Rams up 15 points, before settling for a 49-39 win over the London Mother Teresa Spartans, at St. Joseph's high school. The Rams sit alone in first place at 7-0, after handing the Spartans (6-1) their first loss. All other teams have at least two losses. Taye and Myikal Donald, each had 11 points to lead the Rams, who had a balanced attack. Alex Craig added nine points, while Redmond Cunanan, chipped in with seven.

ST. THOMAS – There was a reunion feel in the air, as the Central Elgin Titans junior boys’ basketball team won their first tournament of the season. Central Elgin captured the junior title, for the 10th annual Paul Furfaro tournament, at Holy Cross secondary school, by going undefeated and meeting a very familiar opponent in the final.

STRATHROY, ON. – The Central Elgin Titans made the senior final, at the Furfaro boys' basketball tournament, held at Holy Cross high school. Strathroy District CI defeated Central Elgin in the championship game. The Titans picked up wins over Monseigneur Bruyere, Holy Cross and North Middlesex, on their way to the final. Austin Carter scored a team high 18 points for the Titans, against Monseigneur Bruyere and 16 points, against Holy Cross.

Callista Tryon scored a game high 21 points for Parkside, Lauren Caraher dropped in nine and Jaylin Wismer, chipped in with six. Faith DeVries scored a game high nine points, while Sherah Kuipers was a rebound monster, with 15, to lead the Central Elgin Titans over the Parkside Stampeders, 31-21, in a TVRA South-East junior girls' basketball quarter-final, at Parkside CI. The Titans were 3-8 during the season, while the Stampeders had a 5-6 record. Both teams finished behind the 8-3 East Elgin Eagles.

ST. THOMAS – Malachi Ndur's ascension in basketball mirrors his growth over recent years - upwards fast. The St. Thomas native has been named to the under-16 Canadian National men's team, for the International Basketball Association (FIBA) 2017 U16 Americas championship, in Formosa, Argentina.

TORONTO, ON. – Malachi Ndur, of St. Thomas, has been invited to Canada Basketball's 2017 Under-16 men’s National tryout and training camp, at the University of Toronto.
Ndur, a student at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, will train with 16 other athletes this week in Toronto, working towards make the final 12-man roster. On June 7, the team will be announced for the FIBA U16 Americas championships, in Formosa, Argentina, June 14-18. This tournament is a qualifier for the 2018 under-17 world championship.
Ndur, a 6-6” forward, plays for the club team Northern Kings, based out of
Toronto, as well as the Central Elgin Titans during the high school season.

LONDON, ON. - The Summer's
Corners Sabres won basketball gold, at the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB)
elementary girl's AAA final tournament.
The Sabres defeated Mitchell Hepburn, 38-12, in the final.
The John Wise Jaguars lost in the AA boys' bronze medal game, while the Forest
Park Firebirds won the AA boys' consolation final.

ST. THOMAS - Our local area has a champion and two silver medalists, from Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) basketball and volleyball. The St. Joseph’s Rams won the WOSSAA AA junior boys' basketball crown, defeating Woodstock C.I., 54-40, in the final, hosted by Tillsonburg Glendale. The West Elgin Wildcats were no match for the host St. Marys Salukis, dropping the senior girls' A volleyball final in three straight games. For a second consecutive year, the Dorchester Beavers had to settle for silver, losing a thrilling junior girls’ A final, to Monseigneur Bruyere from London.

DORCHESTER - Lord Dorchester's junior boys' basketball team is heading to WOSSAA. Following a 3-7 season in the Thames Valley Region East Division, the Dorchester Beavers went 2-0 in the 1A playoffs, defeating the Voaden Vikings and Glencoe Gaels. Dorchester will face the tournament host in their WOSSAA 1A semi-final, on Thursday, 10 a.m., at Westminster high school in London. Westminster went 12-0 in the TVRA Central tier 2 division, prior to defeating North Middlesex High, 39-36, in their 1A final. Strathroy Holy Cross will play the Huron-Perth conference 1A rep, in the other semi-final. Holy Cross went 0-11 during the District regular season, but during their 1A playoffs upended Monseigneur-Bruyere and Gabriel-Dumont.

LONDON, ON. - It was a type of game the St. Joseph’s Rams hadn’t experienced all season, trailing in the second half and truly having to play defence. Dominate throughout the London District junior regular season, placing first with an 11-0 record, the Rams had to go where they had not gone before. Forcing turnovers and clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter rallied the Rams past the London Mother Teresa Spartans, 36-32, in the league final, at Fanshawe College.

DORCHESTER - Their Thames Valley Region
Athletics (TVRA) season is spotless. The
Dorchester Beavers completed an undefeated run at the junior level, taking the
TVRA South-East 'A' title, downing the West Elgin Wildcats, three games to one.
The Beavers finished first in the East Division at 8-0. In the
semi-finals, Dorchester eliminated Glencoe, three games to one.

THOMAS - Taye Donald scored a game high 20 points and Redman Cunanan poured in 16, to lead the St. Joseph's Rams over London John Paul II, 49-30, in a London District junior boys' basketball semi-final, at St. Joe's high school. St. Joe's led 23-14, at half-time. A 22-6 run in the third quarter put the Rams in charge, with Donald dropping 14 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
The Rams advance to the final, Friday, at Fanshawe College. St. Joe's is 12-0 in District action and 28-2 overall this season.

ST. THOMAS - Kendra Horlick is Ms. Basketball for Thames Valley Regional Athletic South division. Horlick helped the East Elgin Eagles finish first with an undefeated record in the TVRA South Division, win the TVRA South-East AAA/AA playoff title and take home the bronze medal from WOSSAA. Over the season, Horlick averaged 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals per game. Horlick and team-mate Amanda Milmine are TVRA all-stars.

ST. THOMAS - Mykal Donald scored a game high 20
points, leading the St. Joseph's Rams over the London Catholic Central High (CCH)
Crusaders, 43-41, in London District senior boys' basketball, at St. Joe's
high school.
The Rams led by as much as 10 points in the second half, but had to hang on for
the two point victory. Daniel Johnson had 10 points for CCH.
In junior action, St. Joe's dumped CCH, 65-56. Redmond Cunanan, led the Rams
with a game high 37 points, while Taye Donald had 19.

DORCHESTER - Lord Dorchester's Katie Beaudry, is Ms Basketball for the Thames
Valley Regional Athletic East division.
The shooting guard for the senior Beavers led her team in scoring and displayed
aggressive skills defensively. Beaudry helped LDSS go undefeated winning the TVRA East Division.
Beaudry received her award at the South-East Captains and Veterans game, held at
Woodstock CI, December 1.
Joining Beaudry at the game, that included both senior and junior players, were
her senior team-mates Megan Dunn, Emma Mutsaers and Megan Beaudry, along with junior
Beavers, Sarah Ashby and Renee Rossi.

champions champions. Dorchester beat the Nicholson Crusaders, from Belleville,

Katie Beaudry led Dorchester with 18 points. Eighth seeded Dorchester now meets 11th seeded Hamilton District Christian, in a consolation semi-final, Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. The top four seeded teams, Welland Jean Vanier, Sudbury LoEllen Park, the co-host school Timmins O'Gorman High and Windsor Lajeunesse, advanced to the championship semi-finals.

TIMMINS, ON. - A 12-9 fourth quarter helped the Carleton Place Bears hold on to defeat the Dorchester Beavers, 38-33, in round two, at the OFSAA A girls basketball tournament. Tied at 18, for half-time, Carleton Place grabbed a two point advantage in the third quarter. Katie Beaudry led Dorchester with 12 points and Megan Beaudry had eight. Bears' guard Madison Reid torched the Beavers for 33 points, including a trio of three-pointers during a 45 second span. Dorchester is bumped to the consolation side of the tournament and will face Queen Elizabeth District Warriors, from Sioux Lookout, at 8 pm tonight.

easy, but the Lord Dorchester Beavers didn't break much of a sweat, winning
their opening game, at the OFSAA A girls basketball tournament.
The eighth ranked Beavers rolled over 14th seeded University of Toronto school,
60-21. The Beaudry sisters, Katie and Megan, combined for 39 points, Katie
with 20. Kristen Bisschop, added 10 points and Megan Dunn, six.
Up next is 10th seeded Carleton Place, who lost their opening game to ninth
ranked Trinity College, 43-31.

TIMMINS, ON. - Lord Dorchester is ranked number eight, at
the OFSAA 1A girls basketball tournament, starting Thursday. Dorchester enters
the 18-team three day event, as the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic
Association (WOSSAA) champions and Thames Valley Regional East division winners.
The Beavers went 14-0 through those games.
Dorchester tips off their provincial quest, against the University of Toronto
school.
Welland E. S. Jean Vanier is seeded number one, followed by Sudbury LoEllen
Park, the co-host school Timmins O'Gorman High (Knights), Windsor Lajeunesse and
at number five, Elgin Rideau District High.
The Jean Vanier Lynx are the defending OFSAA champions and two years ago, the
provincial runnerup, both times facing Prescott Glengarry in the final.
Niagara's French-language Catholic high school, also won the provincial title in
2011 and 2012. Several members of the basketball team, also won OFSAA gold with
Vanier's soccer team, this past June.
LoEllen Park are the Northern Ontario (NOSSA) champions. Last month, at the
Sister Fay tournament, held at O'Gorman High, the host school beat LoEllen Park,
57-47, in the final.

ST. THOMAS –
Teams from St. Thomas - Elgin County and
Dorchester high schools, brought home six medals from the WOSSAA tournaments for girls
basketball and boys volleyball.
Lord Dorchester was the lone champion, winning the senior girls A basketball
championship, defeating St. Marys DCVI, 47-38.
The Parkside Stampeders made the senior girls’ AA basketball final, but lost to
London Mother Teresa, 48-33.
At triple A basketball, the East Elgin Eagles won the bronze medal game at both
the senior and junior levels. The senior Eagles beat London CCH, 42-30, after
losing to London Lucas, 64-29, in their semi-final. Lucas features Sarah
Donavan, who recently signed a letter of intent to attend Davidson College.
In volleyball, the Parkside Stampeders were AA silver medalists, losing the
final to host Stratford Central.
East Elgin captured the bronze medal in AAA action, in a three game sweep of
London CCH. The Eagles lost to the eventual champions, London Saunders, in the
semi-finals.
The West Elgin Wildcats also took home bronze, dusting St. Marys DCVI, in three
games, at the 'A' tournament.

AYLMER, ON - That big zero is the number of times the East Elgin Eagles, senior and junior teams combined, lost during the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) campaign. Both completed 12-0 seasons, by winning their respective TVRA South-East final, today, at East Elgin Secondary school. The senior Eagles capped their perfect run, defeating the Parkside Stampeders, 41-23. The junior Eagles duplicated the feat, downing Woodstock C.I, 33-24.
