Palajsa fourth junior WOSSAA badminton

LONDON, Ont. - Luka Palajsa had to settle for fourth place again. The Dorchester Beavers boys singles player just missed the podium at Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) junior badminton, Tuesday at Mother Teresa secondary school. Palajsa dropped a close marathon match to a London Saunders player, 24-22, 21-18, to finish with a 4-2 record, in fourth place for the second consecutive year. Both losses were to the same player. West Elgin Wildcats girls' doubles team of Jenna Mairleitner and Shana McKillop, went 2-2. Parkside Stampeders' boys doubles team of Alok Reni and Darren Hagerty and singles players Ryan Willmore, posted records of 1-2. Same for Central Elgin Titans girls doubles team Amaiah Dawdy and Reina Walters.
Glencoe's mixed doubles team of Adrian Baran and Cheyenne Cummings, finished 1-2. London Central won the team title, having the girls doubles and girls and boys singles champions.

WOSSAA 2023 senior badminton

LONDON, Ont. - Emma Foley and Bella Eckert had the best result from the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South division, at Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) senior badminton. Glencoe's girls' doubles team placed fourth, only losing to champions Precious and Princess Adu, from London Banting and bronze medalist Bailey and Avery from Medway, at the meet Thursday at Mother Teresa secondary school. Central Elgin Titans boys doubles team of Kalan Gillard and Liam Miskelly went 2-2.

Stamps South-East junior champs

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - The Parkside Stampeders are South-East junior badminton champions. Led by boys doubles winner Alok Regni and Darren Hagerty, the Stampeders took the Thames Valley Regional Athletics conference team championship, Tuesday at Huron Park secondary school. Regni and Hagerty won a marathon match over Huron Park's Gavin Jenson and Parker McLeod, two games to one. Dorchester's Luka Palajsa won boys singles, defeating Stampeders Bryce Hampton in the final. Parkside's Ryan Willmore placed third. West Elgin Wildcats Jenna Mairleitner and Shana McKillop won girls doubles.
The top four in each of the five disciplines advance to WOSSAA, May 9 at Mother Theresa high school in London.

Titans South-East Senior badminton champs

ST. THOMAS - The Central Elgin Titans are South-East senior badminton champions. The Titans capture the Thames Valley Regional Athletics conference team title, by winning boys doubles and mixed doubles, finishing second in ladies singles and third in boys singles, April 20, at Parkside Collegiate. Top four in each of the five disciplines advance to WOSSAA, May 4 in London. Emma Westbrook and Mac Ferguson won mixed doubles defeating teammates Brody Johnston and Lexi Baker in the final.
Kalan Gillard and Liam Miskelly won boys doubles beating Dorchester's David Johnston and Ben Steyaert. Dorchester's Samantha Heng edged Titans Rebecca Nurton in the girls singles final. Titans Carter Lawrence was third in boys singles.

Titans shine at Jr. South badminton

ST. THOMAS - The East Elgin Eagles won two of the five titles while the Central Elgin Titans took seven of 20 qualifying spots. Grace McLean is the ladies singles while Eagles Noah Sleegers and Julian Mizon are the first place boys doubles team, at Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South junior badminton Tuesday at Parkside Collegiate. The Titans led the way with most top four finishes led by each of their doubles teams finishing second. Parkside Stampeders Bryce Hampton won boys singles, defeating teammate Ryan Willmore in the final. West Elgin Wildcats Jenna Mairleitner and Shana McKillop are girls doubles champs, while Glencoe Gaels' Cheyenne Cummings and Adrian Baron won mixed doubles. The top four in each discipline qualify for the South-East championships, April 25 at Huron Park high school in Woodstock.

Palajsa, Wildcats boys doubles, fourth at junior WOSSAA

LONDON, Ont. - Back in February, Luka Palajsa had never held a badminton racket and the only birds he knew were the ones chirping from the trees. Three months later, the Lord Dorchester Beaver was one step away from a medal, at the WOSSAA junior badminton championships, at Saunders Secondary School. Also placing fourth were the West Elgin Wildcats boys doubles' team of Josh Mosher and Jordan Timmermans.

Four top eights at WOSSAA senior badminton

STRATHROY, Ont. - The OFSAA drought continues for South Division schools. No one from the South or Lord Dorchester, advanced from the WOSSAA senior badminton championships, but two individuals and two teams did place in the top eight. Dorchester Beavers' Evan Boldt, in men's singles and Samantha Heng, in girls' singles, both finished eighth. East Elgin Eagles' girls' doubles team of Selecia Wall and Ella Cattrysse placed seventh.

Beavers grab South-East junior title

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - Luka Palajsa made quick work of the opposition in boys' singles, while mixed doubles' pair of Avery Henshal and Caleb Steyaert played as long as they could. Their results was the same, with Palajsa and Henshal and Steyaert taking gold, in their respective disciplines. The wins carried the Lord Dorchester Beavers to the team title, at the TVRA South-East junior badminton championships, at Huron Park secondary school.

Dorchester South-East badminton champs

ST. THOMAS - Selecia Wall and Ella Cattrysse have been best friends since early in their elementary school days. No surprise the self described "partners in crime since kindergarten" are a force in girls' doubles with the East Elgin Eagles. Wall and Cattrysse handily won the girls' doubles title, going 4-0 without dropping a game, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South-East Division senior badminton championships, at Parkside C.I. Dorchester Beavers' Samantha Heng and Evan Boldt took longer routes than Wall and Cattysse, but both left with gold medals and led Dorchester to the team title.

Heng wins at East senior badminton

TILLSONBURG, Ont. - Samantha Heng and Cole Mclellan and Natalie Woods led the Dorchester Beavers at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) East Division senior badminton qualifier, at Glendale high school. Heng won ladies singles, while Mclellan and Woods, took the mixed doubles crown, as Dorchester qualifies eight for the TVRA South-East championships at Parkside C.I., April 21.

GLENCOE, Ont. - Seven doubles teams led the way for the East Elgin Eagles. The Eagles grabbed seven of the 12 qualifying positions in girls, boys and mixed doubles play, led by gold medalists Ella Cattrysse and Selecia Wall, in girls doubles and Holly Van Gorp and Seth Bommel, in mixed, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South Division senior badminton championships, at Glencoe high school.

Cattrysse & Wall lead South at junior WOSSAA

LONDON, ON. - The Elgin East Eagles' ladies doubles team of Selecia Wall and Ella Cattryse had the top result for the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South Division, at the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) junior badminton championships, at Saunders Secondary School. Cattryse and Wall placed fifth, with a record of 3-2.
St. Joseph's Ram Connor Dupuis also went 3-2 in men's singles. Dupius was the silver medalist at the District championships, losing the final match, two games to one to a London Christian player.
Going 2-2 at WOSSAA were both Eagles' Rachel Sawatzky and Central Elgin Titan Sherah Kuiper, in ladies' singles and Dorchester's Leaha Johnston and Eric McLellen, in mixed doubles.

Wildcats' Tucker and Bradshaw fourth at WOSSAA badminton

STRATHROY, ON. - Their remarkable career came to end just short of the desired goal. West Elgin Wildcats' girls' doubles team of Ashley Tucker and Katie Bradshaw placed fourth, for the second consecutive season, at the WOSSAA senior badminton championships, at Strathroy DCI. Tucker and Bradshaw were the top result from the TVRA South-East division, finishing with a record of 3-2. 
East Elgin Eagles' boys' doubles team of Matthew Abell and Brian Dyck, Dorchester's Victoria Quance and Kyle Morris and East Elgin's Alyssa Voros and Correy Mantel, all went 1-2.

Eagles take four gold at Junior South badminton 

ST. THOMAS - The East Elgin Eagles took four of five divisions at Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South Division junior badminton, at Parkside C.I. Ten Eagles move on to the South-East meet, led by their champions, Cameron Wall (boys' singles), Rachel Sawatzky (girls' singles), Selecia Wall and Ella Cattrysse (girls' doubles) and Kayla Voros and Jayden Vansevenant (mixed doubles), won gold.
The top four in each division, qualify for the TVRA South-East championships, April 24th, at Parkside. Glencoe's John Van Bilsen and Jackson Caron, in boys' doubles, prevented an Eagles' sweep of gold, winning the final against Nicholas Cowx and John Orlebar. The Central Elgin Titans advance four athletes, including Christian Vecchio and Kate Dejong, second, in mixed doubles.

TILLSONBURG, ON. - There was no surprise with West Elgin Wildcats' Katie Bradshaw and Ashley Tucker repeating as ladies doubles champions.
Bradshaw and Tucker led the Wildcats to the team title, at the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) South-East senior badminton championships, at Glendale high school.

Parkside's Willmore third at WOSSAA junior badminton

LONDON, ON. –  Blake Willmore, from Parkside Collegiate Institute, accomplished his goal of a top four performance, placing third, in men's singles, at the WOSSAA junior badminton championship, at Saunders secondary school. Medway won the men's singles title, defeating London CCH, the only two competitors to beat Willmore, who finished with a 4-2 record.
The East Elgin Eagles ladies' doubles team of Abby DeCoutere and Mackenzie Wiebe, tied for seventh, with a 2-2 record. CCH won the team title, edging Listowel District Collegiate.

Van Vlaanderen and Moore win TVRA South-East mixed doubles title

ST. THOMAS –  No one in the conference has been able to figure out how to defeat Lauren Wohlgemut. For the fourth consecutive season, the Lord Dorchester student won a Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) South-East ladies' singles title, this year beating teammate Katie McDonald in the final, at the senior badminton championships, at Parkside Collegiate Institute.
Wohlgemut now owns a pair of TVRA South-East gold medals, from both the senior and junior levels. Fellow champions were: David Henshaw, LDSS, boys' singles; Katie Bradshaw and Ashley Tucker, West Elgin, ladies' doubles; Cooper Van Vlaanderen and Leah Moore, East Elgin, mixed doubles; Brayden Kelner and Rhys Jones, Woodstock CI, boys doubles.
The top four in each of the five divisions, advance to the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) tournament, Thursday, in Strathroy.

Eagles dominate TVRA South senior badminton

GLENCOE, ON – The East Elgin Eagles won three of the five divisions at the Thames Valley Region Athletics South conference senior badminton tournament.
Champions representing East Elgin were, Leo Centeno in men’s singles, the women’s doubles team of Kendra Cornelissen and Leah Moore and the mixed doubles team of Abby Taylor and Cooper Van Vlaanderen. Eagles’ Morgan Blair placed second, losing to Central Elgin Titans’ Miranda Gowdey, in the ladies’ singles final.
West Elgin Wildcats’ men’s doubles team of Garrett Dielman and Brandon Sadecky, beat Central Elgin’s Brady and Landon Johnstone, in the gold medal final.
The top four in each division, advance to the TVRA South-East championships. Central Elgin and West Elgin, each have five of the 20 total qualifying positions.
